I wish I had all of this “emergency fund” and van upgrade funds available 😂

Ah a fellow crass listener. You gotta make things work when it’s your only vehicle.

Oh man that really sucks you broke down on your Santa Cruz trip, that’s where I live. I hope you still got some riding in? The dirt is awesome lately.
My Camburg lifted 2wd Econolines transmission took a dump on the previous owner out in Moab at 128k so he rebuilt it and did some heavy duty upgrades as well, to the tune of 2,800$! He sold it to me immediately after and it’s been flawless since. I have been doing routine fluid and filter changes and added a pan with a drain plug to make it much easier. So far so good at close to 200k now.
Your story telling, filming and Editing reminds me of a channel that would/should have 1 Mil subscribers it’s that good!

My E250 transmission went at 120,000 km so you did good. One website I checked out was estimating the lifespan of these transmissions at 120,000 km to 175,000 km. I think you're better off getting the work done now and not when you're on some huge road trip. I miss my 4.6 liter ford. I may get another and do what you did if I decide my 2500 Sprinter is getting too expensive. It already is but man, 1000 km range on a fill of diesel. It's amazing mileage. The mechanic who told me the bad news about the tranny said, "they go" but he added "don't worry about the engine tho", so I guess they last a long time but my quote for new spark plugs was like 650.00 CND. (kanuck bucks)

I feel ya! Mine went out last year … engine check light kept coming on on my way to work around the same place. So I took it in and they said it was the transmission… I was like you … no way … it doesn’t do anything that I can feel. We’ll long story short I put in a new remanufactured with the new up grade and not until I drove it did I realize what a difference… I’m just so glad I listened and like you said one and done! Take care now … I swear when I roll down grades now she has a jake brake like my old Peter built 😂😂

What I've found over the years is that no matter the brand or what service history the vehicle has the best bet is just to go ahead and change all the fluids, filters and depending on the mileage the plugs, shocks, rotors and pads and if it's a heavy duty vehicle with more than 80K the ball joints and wheel bearings. Do that and you'll generally find and or prevent potential issues before they become disasters. Sometimes the damage is already done but at least you find the time bomb while you're at a shop and not in the back country or on a great trip.

Yea I should have done the transmission but was told it had all just been serviced....I did do the ball joints and tie rods right away along with all the normal engine maintenance.

@@brakeforsnakes I feel ya. Yeah, I've not done what I should have done a time or three myself. And I've listened to people who said everything was taken care of. Well, even when those folks are honest and not trying to lead you astray you often find they simply don't know enough to know when or whether everything has actually been taken care of. Now I look for the most complete service records I can find when buying used to give myself the best chances at buying a good one but it's always a bit of a crap shoot. Hence the immediate fluids, filters and various tidbits right away. That and not buying from a rust belt state if I can't inspect it personally. Those folks are used to rust and their version of. "it ain't too bad" doesn't fit my South Carolina definition of not too bad.

Hello did you have the 4r75 transmission or the 4r100? I have the 5.4 with 4r75 had it rebuilt because it was leaking all over the place. The guy told he may as well rebuild it while it was out of the van. It’s good now thanks
