    I had a 802.11AC wifi media bridge that was capable of sustaining 600mbps. But I needed more bandwidth and lower game ping. So I switched to MOCA 2.0 adapters. Once I upgrade to Wifi6 and my router has a 2.5gbps port, i will be upgrading to MOCA 2.5 as well to match the speed.

    But my main use is I have a huge library of media on a 4 tb portable drive. 4k rips and music, cartoons tv shows. I need a robust DLNA server. I used to have Netgear r6300V2 and it worked like a charm with Freshtomato firmware minus the range and usb speed for samba.

    Use IFTTT for notification if something like your "adult entertainment device" drops off the network... or starts using out of range bandwidth when it shouldn't. Nothing like getting home to a fuzzy bunny randomly stroking out across the floor.

  • @am385
    @am385 5 лет назад +8

    Remember that WiFi is half duplex while Ethernet is full duplex. A 1Gbps Ethernet connection has 1Gbps down and 1Gbps up. Also remember that with WiFi that if a device within range does not have MU-MIMO capabilities it will downgrade the entire network instead of just that devices connection. Not to mention you share the same airspace with your neighbors so interference hurts everyone. Lets also not forget that the WiFi speed ratings on the box are the total amount of bits in the air at one time on the best possible theoretical connection spanned over the available radio set. Then when you want to interact with the network you wrap what you want into a larger frame than Ethernet which bloats the data, then you encrypt what you want because you run a safe network which bloats the data. There are large chunks of each frame that are not what you want but only the overhead required to get what you want.
    Wired is better. It is not the bottleneck.

    Thank you for your review. I am currently using the TP-Link Archer C5400. For a while I was tempted to replace it, but I started to face two basic problems: one, that I do not own any Wi-Fi 6 devices, and two that in Brazil the AX6000 is not officially backed up by TP-Link, which means that they will give the user full technical support BUT if the router is defective they will not replace for a new one. In this case we will be in the hands of the importer, something that is clearly not a reliable warranty. At any rate, I would like to ask you if I may: did you find any significant speed performance over the C5400 as far as non-Wi-Fi sets are concerned?

  • @harryman0412
    @harryman0412 5 лет назад +12

    Sounds like the 60 Mbps file transfer cap you were experiencing is the USB 3.0 bottleneck between your router and the SSD.

    • @robertt9342
      @robertt9342 5 лет назад +1

      USB 3 will most likely bottleneck a SSD, but only if there is something wrong with the USB controller or bridge. He should be getting well over 100MBps. For example I have a WD external drive (mechanical green drive inside) that averages about 140MB/s.

    So, the whole Prius highway analogy, do those benefits of wifi 6 with the not having to wait for a clear highway apply to our existing smart home devices and every other device? Because I’m pretty sure there are no smart home devices that use 802.11ax currently, like my current Nest thermostat.

  • @JeremyLynnes
    @JeremyLynnes 5 лет назад

    If you're running a separate router already such as pfSense, untangle, etc I'd probably look to using 802.11ax access points vs a consumer-grade router.

  • @Polopollo75
    @Polopollo75 5 лет назад +1

    Ok I am pretty noob concerning networking and routers. Here is my use case I would like to make it work:
    Desktop, UnRaidTower, Laptop, Chromecast --> I want a router that handles:
    Streaming a game from my desktop (ethernet to router) to my laptop (802.11ac Wi-Fi).
    While at the same time streaming a movie from my unRaid server (ethernet) to my chromecast/TV (802.11 b/g/n/ac)
    Bonus: If my unRaid server can stream another movie to a friend over the internet.
    So most of my usage is "localhost". Right now my router is shitty and if I try that, the "direct stream" from my desktop to laptop is severely affected (pixelized, slow, etc).
    What technology would you recommend then?

    So how much will wifi 5 devices benefit from this? I'm a vr gamer and I'm trying to go full wireless with my oculus Quest for PC VR games using virtual desktop. It connects at 5 Ghz which should be plenty of bandwidth, but the killer is lag spikes which cause stutters and jitters in the games. Would I see enough benefit from switching to this router now or should I just wait until vr headsets support wifi 6?

    You referred to the Samsung SSD rating as 'megabits', when the screen (and most drive speed references) are in megabytes per second. 65 MB/s would be about 650 Mb/s, significantly more than the 'half a gigabit' you mentioned. You don't say for the USB storage test whether your computer(s) connected to the router at 2 GHz or 5 GHz. Since ax's spec for 2 GHz is about 1/4 the speed of the 5 GHz channels, that would be a large impact on your tested speed. I agree it's probably the USB port, but on the off chance it was a 2.5 GHz connection, 650 Mbps isn't bad for a 1148 Mbps connection speed. Remember that these 'rated' speeds are the raw bit rate of the hardware. When you add up the error correction, connection, and packet protocols, they take up a significant portion of that bandwidth. If there are any other nearby WiFi signals on that channel it slows even more.

  • @Roodj1

    Question: does it still support older WiFi standards? If it does the same security issues still affect the unit. If it doesn’t, then that’s good, but limits sales growth to a smaller demographic for a while.

    Go with Ubiquiti UniFi, far more reliable.

    This Router has no DOS Protection feature just like in Asus Routers. The HomeCare Antivirus by Trend Micro for this Router is quite limited as well compared to what's on Asus Routers wherein they also have a dedicated page containing reports. If in case Trend Micro stops the support for this TP-Link Router then the device will have no security feature from external DOS threats. Older TP-link Routers has a more robust DOS Protection feature that is built-in in the Router software itself. I'm not sure why TP-link did not include that feature for the Archer AX6000 as they already have it on their previous models. :-( This Router has a good hardware specs but has very limited software security features and still with noticeable bugs in the recent firmware version. Asus Routers software is way far better than this.

    Please use Unifi. You are doing amazing content and I am a subscriber for a long time. Do not use these kind of junk stuff. :)
    Unifi / Ubiquiti will fix all your problems.

    bro if you are copying from a non ssd non/raided SATA drive to that networked drive you are being limited by the SATA connection. Never gonna see 110mb/s. Thats not a limitation of the wifi, but of your hardware bottleneck on your desktop.
