It’s so cool you reacted to one of our performances! Whereas we are definitely not known super well, people come from all over to see us! We have had lots of time to improve, and it’s just super awesome! I’m glad you liked our show!
What are you talking about. AF is the best high school marching band this year in the western US. You may not have been as good back in this video but you guys are amazing now! (P.S. Marvin you should react to American forks show for this year.)
@@WOK_1021 Scores wise yes, Avon does score higher. But you simply can't discredit all the work that American Fork has put in to all of their shows. They consistently put out a great show every year. Not every school can be like Avon where they have a big name, a ton of sponsors, etc. For what American fork has, they do a fantastic job with. You don't have to be a consistent grand nationals finalist band to be considered good. American Fork is amazing. And so is Avon. I'm assuming you do marching band. So you should know what it's like for someone to just invalidate all the work you put in your show(s). Show a little respect dude. Come on.
High school marching bands spend hundreds of hours working on shows for competition. The dancers are referred to as a color guard and dance, spin, and toss flags, rifles, and Sabres. Some of the best high school bands in the US compete in the Bands of America competition held annually in Indianapolis, IN (where I’m from.)
For example, a sell out crowd at LOS is somewhere in the neighborhood of 67-70K people, now with marching band competitions, the total attendance of an event can be much higher as some people just come to see the band they support and leave again. Before COVID, I would go and bring a book and a blanket (as LOS can feel cold) and set myself in a place to watch first thing in the morning and camp out from start to finish... ISSMA (our local organization) holds a separate location for their small band scholastic classes the weekend before to pick their champions who perform exhibition before the open classes compete. Then there’s BOA Grand Nationals the next weekend after that, held over a few days. These events do have sell out numbers... And we get DCI Championships for college age marchers who still want to compete and give up their entire summers, it definitely sells out, although there is a little known thing they do online the week before the event they post a locals only price (you have to be an IN resident) and can get the tickets for $25. Typically they are in the nosebleeds if you’re looking for more than 1 seat together. The year I went by myself I had a good seat in the 300 level. It was amazing!
If you want to see a good American fork marching band show watching some of the newer bands ones the whole style of our band has changed a good show is last years
I'm glad you liked one of our older shows! If you watch one of our more recent shows you can notice new uniforms, and a bit of a different style because of a director change. Still an amazing year though!
Yeeessss !!! I'm so happy you were able to watch one marching show. Yes their show was about the sea, although it wasn't to clear at first. There are 3 movements to marching shows. The first is always gonna hit fast as you saw. The movements could have been sharper at some points as well as the colour guard focusing more on cleaning some middle sets. But that's my marching mindset kicking in. The differences between college marching band and high school marching band really depends on the school. As most colleges do not have a marching band mostly because there is not enough members in one specific group in the band to create a quality show. Another big difference you pointed out immediately as well is the difference in the show style. High school marching bands focus more on telling a story with the show while college shows focus more on technical skills. I'm so happy you were able to take some time out of your day to react to this. Thank you so much for the amazing content. I cannot wait for more!
Well, to be specific it's high school versus dci, not college. College marching bands mostly (I say mostly because there are some different ones) gimmicky (but still very impressive) performances that they learn in a few weeks for whatever home football game is next.
While I agree that dci is absolutely the major leagues of everything marching band, there are also plenty of boa performance videos from grand nats or San Antonio that would blow him away compared to almost any college marching band.
I love his reaction bc this wasn't even one of the big names in the marching band world (not that it wasn't good). I'd love to see a reaction to William Mason, Rockford, Avon, Ronald Reagan, Vandergriff, Plymouth Canton, Brownsburg, one of the bands that like, everyone in the mb community knows
High school bands work on one show for six months and compete with that one show for a year. In college and university you perform a different halftime and/or pre-game show every week. New music new routines every week.
Love watching your reactions and appreciation of our beloved marching bands. Modern high school marching bands are a type of musical theater dance. Each program tells a story and has amazing visuals. Thank you for sharing this amazing band. I'm in Texas and I probably would never have found or appreciated this band otherwise. ❤
I was an Alto Sax in the Tucson High Marching 100 in Tucson Arizona. We would have band day at the University of Arizona where dozens of bands would perform.
@@marvinreacts2227 Its fairly big. It can hold about 50,000. Performing there felt scary since everyone in the crowd was ALSO a band so they would critique it morw if we messed up. They also cheered more if we got it right. We weren't the best band there, not the worst either but we definitely had teams better than us.
@@marvinreacts2227 The staudium and the university was also maybe half a kilometer away from Tucson High School so it felt like we had to prove ourselves since it was our home turf in a way. Also one thing I forgot. Tucson is pronounced like Two Sawn. I forgot europeans have a hard time with that and call it Tuckson by accident 😂
Make sure you check out American professional drum and bugle corp bands. They are amazing. They hardly ever stop moving on the field. High School lean toward the drum and bugle corp style. College bands are more of marching band Big 10 style like Ohio State, University of Illinois and more.
I'm curious if they had any point deductions or comments from the judges for the number of "scatter drills" (moving to different locations, but not in unison as a group). Back in the early 90s the judges allowed one or two at most before deducting points.
Another difference between High School and College Marching Bands is that High School Marching Bands are competing with other bands for ranking in their Class and State
Not a bad show, but definitely not one of the best. Marvin, when you said something about a wave, you were on the right track. It seemed to be about being on the high seas. All of the flags looked like they were splashes of water in different colors, depending on if they were in rough or calm seas. The first big hit formation was a sail boat. They had formations of water waves and maybe a shark. They were not hitting their set very clearly. When the player was lifted and the tubas were hidden, that person was pointing in the direction that they were sailing in, sort of like a compass. The intent was clear, it just needed more rehearsal time, more difficult music and with time it would be a fine show. It would not compete well on the national stage (Band of America Grand Nationals,) but it wasn’t a bad outing for you to see your first high school marching band. Congratulations American Forks HS!
American fork has been in Grand nationals finals before and consistently places in the 16-13 place range every four years at grand nationals. They’ve also won the BOA western regional for 27 of the last 28 years. I would keep in mind this is the second competition of the season.
That's my band!
It’s so cool you reacted to one of our performances! Whereas we are definitely not known super well, people come from all over to see us! We have had lots of time to improve, and it’s just super awesome! I’m glad you liked our show!
Avon is simply better ;)
🤷♀️ Idk too much about other bands outside of Utah, but if you say so :)

That's amazing, do you know how many people are watching these?
BTW I love Lucas oil stadium 😍😍🏟️

Look Up DCI. 2002 Cavaliers, 2003 Blue Devils or 2008 Phantom Regiment. This is Marching Music Major League.

Honestly anyone from top 5 at grand nats or top 5 at San Antonio from the past decade or so would be really fun to see his reaction

American fork 2018, same band, much different performance
omg who won

If you take recommendations you should really watch Oakville High School marching band show from 2018, their show bottled up was really amazing
I highly recommend Lincoln-Way 2018 or 2019

Another really good marching band is the 2018 Vista Ridge High School Marching Band. I’d also recommend the 2015 Hebron High School Marching Band.
Thanks 🙌

Depends on the competition
Now you got to react to Wasatch marching band
You should do my high school the woodlands high school 2021 show
Another difference between High School and College Marching Bands is that High School Marching Bands are competing with other bands for ranking in their Class and State
Mine had ranking like good excellent and superior
Different rules for competition
