I've seen the anime 10 years ago when I was home (Yemen). Now I study and live in Germany (Heidelberg-city) Where Dr.Tenma and Johan were. Always when I go to the Castle I remember them.

@@TheCSJones I'm from Germany, I live in Düsseldorf (the place where Tenma worked) and yeah, they nailed it! They made so many details, for example used the correct letter on the license plate on every car! I'm very impressed lol makes me wanna travel through my own country

People remember this show for the dark, gritty parts but this song is like, the exact opposite of that, its that side that Tenma brings on people, that the will of a good heart can change lives even that ones drowning in pain. I've been battling depression since I can remember anything but fuck it, for the love of life, we'll defeat this
In a way, Johan was the embodiment of survival. Given how his cards were dealt, he could've pulled the plug and nobody would be there to stop him. Complete freedom he had to stop his life, yet he chose to live. Same for Tenma. The guilt of saving a serial killer was huge but he too lived. For the love of *life* they continued to live. Even if their expressions of love were different.
Also, hope you beat the depression.
I'm truly glad David composed this for Monster it is perfect in every way and because of Monster I found another good singer/songwriter he is truly a master of the craft.

It pains my heart to think there are many more hidden gems like this one, that I may or may not come across in this lifetime. So much beauty that remains buried under the mountain of junk, I'm so sad I could be listening to it and its story right now but I can't because I don't know where and how to find them :(.. I was so lucky to discover this song and artist, by Monster of course ^^. I wish I could find much more like this, I hope I do.
I am glad am not the only one who thinks like that. Its a sad thing that you will never see all of the treasures world before you vanish from it. And by the way if you focused on the lyrics it will explains to you the whole ending of the anime (If you don't know).

When Johan tells the story of the real monster, and we see the flashback of his mom giving up one of them. Damn...those are the moments that really mess someone up. I still have a hard time watching that scene.

I liked this very comment four years and forgot to comment... So here it is: It's brutal to think that a mother may reject a child. Even more when you consider that rejected child was very likely mistaken by mother herself. Imagine that; living with the pressure of being rejected by the only person who's love is meaningful as it is. Johan is sad because his own mother is the Monster who scare him the most... 🙁

He showed him the ultimate kindness, saving his life,, and proved that All Lives are indeed created Equal.
Johan thought he understood people, and expected his sister and Dr Tenma to cruelly kill him, but they both did the opposite, with forgiveness
Unless you focus on the later half of the show, you would not understand the ending, i didnt either till i sat and thought a lot about it. Its not just about a person being a monster, as the first half would have you think, its about the importance of identity, love and a home.

David Sylvian is one of the greatest singer-songwriter's ever.
Those two factors alone make up this to be the most perfect combination ever.
I know this is off topic but I just began contemplating my life while listening to this song and I couldn't help but tear up. I can't remember the last time I cried despite everything that's going wrong in my life right now. I realised how much I've changed through the last three years and how I've toughened up emotionally as I'm facing the possibility of the death of a family member as well as the fact that I'll be an adult next year (which is only a few months away), the line "What of the children? Surely they can't be blamed for our mistakes" just makes me so vulnerable. It makes me think of how broken our family truly was and about all the mistakes the adults around me made. It makes me think I'm still just a kid, even though I act mature. I know no one really cares but I just had to vent and I found this to be the right place.

I agree with the other two comments here. We all experience and have expectations, we feel love though also unloved, we cannot help how we feel when we feel it. I quite often cry and then stop myself by asking myself why I am crying as I get caught in the moment and find it hard to pull myself out/back. You are special no matter how people see you OR how you see/view yourself. A quote from ‘Rick and Morty’ -“Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. Everybody’s gonna die.” It’s incredibly morbid and dark but it’s as real as it gets. Thank you for your comment as it helps others to realise they are not alone within their thoughts. 😉

I can‘t explain it well but the cover/thumbnail chosen for this piece of music fits so eerily well with the vibe of the song and the anime. Maybe it’s because the scenery in the image reminds me of the original, dark Grimm Fairy Tales. The connection those have with Monster is in my eyes in the czech fairy tale book from Johan‘s childhood that contains the story of the nameless monster. The imagery of that tale as seen in the anime really fits this thumbnail.
I came here because of Johan Liebert, but then I became a fan of David Sylvian.

I have anxiety and i usually stress a whole lot. But then i just listen to this and... I don't even know how to explain, this is such a gem.
This is the only song that ever has brought me to tears. It makes me think about my father who was an alcoholic and died at an early age and about my mother who had to suffer for years through intense depression. It makes me think about how I want to love life and keep going for my family of my own.

I just started watching Monster. It is seriously one of the best stories I've ever seen in any show.
The way he says, "surely they can't be blamed for our mistakes," is just so chilling. In a way, it's haunting and somewhat sentimental. It's not aching, yet longing.
To hear the full version of this song right before going back to revisit this masterpiece of all anime.. It's simple indescribable. The closing bit was always a strange mysterious little number. But the second verse, coupled with what you know at the end of the series, really brings you to tears.

The first time I watched Monster, it was exactly the same for me. though I din skip forward too much, the urge to do so was tremendous. I would watch it at about 1.5 times the speed.
Monster was built around an intentionally lethargic style of story telling that focuses on detailed backgrounds of even its seemingly insignificant character, in an attempt to give viewers and readers the "complete picture". I have now rewatched the anime without skipping a detail. rewarding it is!
