One of the most effective changes to my garage was getting a plumber to run a cold water feed basically an external tap into my garage. I now have PW perm plugged and plumbed and with a double feed so switching to my De-ionised resin water tank is just a quarter dial turn. I basically press garage door, switch on PW, turn tap on, lift stubby gun off wall and boom spraying. When finished just wrap up PW hose and turn it all off, don’t have to move a thing.
Taking care of my cars, that I love. Painting, not so much. But - I get it done when needed. The brightening of the room and the cabinets looks great. That will bring you joy. I'm sure of that. Waiting for the sequel 😃
Heather, what a brilliant job you have made of your garage refurbishment, top marks young lady. When I moved into my current house I had a garage and workshop purpose built to my own design. I used internal grade breeze blocks on the internal walls and I can fully appreciate the issues you have with painting them. I used Dulux paint for this and opted to go for a colour called ‘county cream’ as it gives a slightly warmer feel to the interior. I initially thinned the paint down with 50% water and actually painted the mortar sections first. They had to coats of this mixture, then I used the paint at full strength and used a roller to the breeze blocks. For the garage cabinets and work benches I opted for units from machine mart. I purchased them when they had their VAT free promotions. The quality is acceptable and certainly finished off the garage quite nicely. I work for Rolls-Royce and we had a new manufacturing cell being installed at the time time as fitting out my garage. As I was to be the Process Owner of this new cell I had the chance to fit it out with all the cabinets etc.. I used a company called Bott for the cabinets - absolutely fantastic quality but a huge price tag, could job RR were paying. Enjoy your new garage.
Very well done. It looks great. A tidy and organised working and storage area is so important. And a feeling of achievement too having done it yourself. 👍
Excellent transformation and the video was so professionally produced. Looking forward to further developments - I am now motivated to look at my own very disorganised shed!
Great job Heather! The beauty of Costco is that they have one of the best 'returns' policies out there in my experience. If anything ever goes wrong they will sort it I find.....even years later! The Garage look fab! One tip that may help: I used to use the same floor mats when I taught Martial Arts and after time they can lift in places. Grab some heavy duty double sided velcro - that way they stay stuck in place and if the mat gets worn or damaged you can simply replace it. Cheers G
Great place Heather, and great job. I literally spat my coffee out at "Ready to launch the camera across the room" 😂 looking forward to seeing it finished when all your wall mounts are in place 👌
Great job Heather. A sink would be a real benefit, water and drainage allowing . Bolting your Kranzle to the wall would be a winner if you can supply it with water and electricity. I use copper plumbing pipe spaced off a shelf for spray bottles.
Thank you! I’d really like a sink/ wall mount setup but unfortunately it’s an external garage so there’s not an easy way to get any plumbing to it. Would be very cool though!
Goose down is the small feathers that a goose has that you will find in a down jacket or similar. I am going to use sandtex on my walls and then latex the floor out
great job Heather, looks ideal. I like that flooring option, especially as it seems quite reasonably priced. Smiled at that awkward screw- I'm sure every self assembly kit has a similar problem, haha.
That’s an impressive accomplishment. You’ll be able to keep everything tidy and organised. As for the shelf space in the cabinets; I used shelf splitters from IKEA in my shelving units. They’re only a few pounds each and doubled the amount of shelf space I had.
Great job Heather looking well what you have done so far. It’s hard to beat a well organised work space. Look forward to getting the full tour when you have it all finished 🙂 Top Job 👌
For future, consider used office furniture for storage. You can source metal cabinets with & without drawers, and they are super strong. For your regularly used spray bottles, I have an ikea kitchen accessory pole (like a towel rail) that works well to hook spray bottles onto with the trigger keeping them in place, then a shelf over the top to make use of the space.
This is literally the video I have been looking for for so long! So many US ones on garage set ups and where to buy but so few UK ones. Thanks Heather!!
Waiting for same cabinets to come. Everyone complains about screw problems with this brand. Costco purchase. Tried that flooring in my garage but it was a disaster with cars in & out so hope yours work in your case.
Outstanding transformation Heather and looks just as good a clinical lab😇😇😇 Your determination on that hard to remove screw was very impressive Congratulations Heather ❤❤❤❤
So now you're a garage detailer too! lol. At least you managed to do what I've planned to do to my garage for a long time. Although I can just about squeeze my HRV in there with all my stuff surrounding it ( mostly secondhand cabinets or plastic self assembly shelves). I will definitely think about the flooring though.
Youve done a lovely job there Heather.... I finally got my garage gutted out a few months back after about 20 years of being crammed with junk and have finally got all my stuff stored in it albeit I didn't go to the bother of painting anything .... I did lay rolls of rubber matting down and sat my shelving etc on those just to get them off the conctete flower and a few plastic drawer stirage units for all my microfiber cloths and towels and I've my pressure washer sitting on a stirage box just to keep it off the floor .....
Hi Heather, with regards the shelves in the cabinet you could take one to a local engineering company and they might be able to make you some not to expensively and then get them powder coated to match .
I must commend you for this garage refurbishment as it looks amazing already. It must have given you a real sense of achievement too. We shall look forward to the next instalment video.
That aluminium checker plate sheeting might be a good option for the worktop. I’ve also found that if you put a couple of shelves nearest the door with all your ‘ go to ‘ regular maintenance wash products it’ll save you a lot of time. Nice job Heather !
I did this a couple of years ago. Trying to decide for each part, what to buy took so long as there's so much to research. The amount of time and layers needed to seal the grey breezeblocks went on forever. I think it took about 70 hours of painting by the time i'd finished. I went with bright white as mine was so dingy to start with. I still need a workspace at the back and some proper storage but its made it a brilliant space to work on. I wanted to put a ceiling in but hey ho can't have everything and thats beyond my skills and knowledge. This was a great video and would have been great to have and I'm sure will help anyone looking to give their garage a once over. I had several 5ft LED lights put in from screwfix. Def look there if you need some cost effective options. Great vid as always.
That looks very nice, Heather. Congratulations. I know you've been working towards doing this. Its a great moment for you. I can hear excitement and satisfaction in your voice. That's cool. Also, remember your work area will keep evolving as you go along. So keep working and thinking and by all means keep having fun. Top notch!
Great job on the garage transformation Heather , I did mine a few years ago and went with a similar colour on the walls and the sponge type tiles on the floor too which have worn really well given the price. I've got my pressure washer mounted on a bracket on the wall with a retractable hose reel which saves setting up the pressure washer everytime. Next job is to get some power into it and a new electric garage door. Looking forward to your next garage tour video 👍
Exceptionally well done Heather. Also, did enjoy seeing someone else struggle with stuff a bit….you had a lot of extra paint on those gloves 😀. When it comes to projects, things rarely go as planned. Looking forward to your updates
@@AutoCareHQ this video showed a bit more of your personality in terms of dealing with that screw and the priority you placed on spending in one place vs another. Showing another side of yourself from time to time is 👍👌👌.
Hello Caretakers. I was one of those people who agreed to be interested in this DIY storage thing. And yes, this is a nice video and the result is very cool.
An option for protecting your worktops is rubber matting. I’ve been using it for many years, comes in rolls of various thicknesses and not too expensive. When cut and fitted it looks very professional and is generally chemical resistant and easy to clean.
Hi Heather, great video, the garage progress so far is awesome, ideal for the car cleaning accessories, the cupboards and worktops are really nice.the walls being white as well makes it brighter in the garage to find certain products.
Really enjoyed that video Heather, it will be good for you to have a wee base camp for all your bits and bobs. Looking forward to seeing the final tour when it’s all complete.
Morning Heather 👋 great video on how you envisaged your garage makeover....and a very grand result indeed 👏. Zinsser paint is expensive, but definitely worth it 👌. Hilka furniture was a good call too 🙂

May be worth putting a coat of varnish on the worktops to seal them. Look at making some simple shelves, like a table, to fit onto the shelfs as this will give an additional level of storage.
Very smart. I wish I had a garage but I bought a Garden Cabin that houses all my chemicals and cloths & tools so I guess I am lucky in that respect. I bought the op[en shelves in modular form from B & Q and it works for me and I have my chemicals split into manufacturer or brand and my cloths in those big plastic lidded storage boxes so they are kept dust free. It will be good to see complete.
I've been known to launch the occasional spanner, screwdriver, hammer, human....I would have made a mess even attaching the thingies on the cabinets...you've done well !!! Enjoy 😅
The colour "goose down" for paint derives from feathers on a Goose or a Duck. Those feathers can be found in puffa jackets of high quality or pillows you might lay your head on to get a good nights sleep or a duvet.
