Another great video and just in the right timing… I asked my son to do research on this for our next step on our little farm here… How cool that you did all the work for us :-) I appreciate you so much!
Glad it was helpful! Have fun building your coop.
This gets me so excited for our new life on our ranch. I can't wait to get some chickens when winter slows down! Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for the info! While we have our set up- folks are always in need of this info.
I love seeing others set up as well... I have an auto watering system similar to yours- im seeing I can make it more efficient... again thanks Eric its always a joy to hear and see your wisdom.
Blessings ❤
Blessings to you as well. Glad yours is set up and running well. The auto-waterers are a huge blessing!
Yeah, down here in Australia we got hit with bird flu and millions of chickens were culled.
The major supermarket egg shelves are often empty because of low supply and people buying what stock there is "just in case"
I'm in the inner suburbs so no chickens for me sadly.
Great video. Cheers!
A few years ago we had a conversation about raising, growing your own food . We have been doing this for years . Yes the cost of feed does go up in times like this But , you can also plant grain , grasses and other things that we feed . You are at lease providing information on some ideas if people listen that’s great if not . Well what can you do other then keep providing food for your family .
Yep. Some people listen, some don't. I will stay on task.
Good timing! I’m building my coop in a week or so. Good morning! God bless! Thanks for the video!
Great topic! As a backyard chicken keeper of a small flock free ranging on my half-acre, I suggest anyone free ranging chickens should keep informed with their state's Dept of Health & Human Services. The last time the flu rolled through NC we were required to keep our chickens sequestered near their coop to prevent contamination from wild birds flying overhead. Seems overkill to me but we don't want to lose our right to keep backyard or even rural chickens at all - especially with corporations trying to suppress small ranchers, growers, gardeners. Joel Salatin's podcast is a good resource for lots of chicken farming info :)
Hawaii organic eggs are A fortune… yes I agree you are on point. 🎯💯
Great video thanks for all the amazing information!
Glad it was helpful!
😜✌️ Great first hand insight as always Brother, Thanks 💒⚔️ God Bless us All 🇺🇸🙏✝️
Thank you!
We have leghorns and Rhode Island reds. Very informative video, thanks. 😊
I don't need this video, but appreciate you putting it out there for those who do. I hope somewhere in the video, you let them know that it takes at least 20weeks to get the first egg, if you raise them from chicks. Also, they don't really lay much in the winter, if at all.
Yep, I let them know.
Start raising duck eggs, and see how fast there is a "duck virus" outbreak.. You will understand the real problem.
I understand where you’re coming from.
For city living only, I just wish there were breeds of chickens with almost 'mute' egg songs! My chickens are so quiet and peaceful, until they lay an egg or decide to help celebrate another chicken that has just layed. I have tried to get their attention on other things so they would not make such a loud noise, but to no avail. Other than that noise, I have wonderful Black Australorp egg layers!
It depends on the neighborhood and how many Karens are around, lol. My girls get noisy when fighting over a nesting box (even though there are 6 boxes for 8 hens, they all want to lay in the same one and will "b__tch" at the hen currently there - kind of like a family fighting over bathroom time, lol) They also get a little noisy making their announcement after laying, or they all squawk in a chorus when a predator is sighted.
@curiouscat3384 Hopefully you can get out from living in a neighborhood.
Great video. How hot does the shed get in the Texas summer? Do you add fans to cool them at night? How do you protect them from predator birds, we got eagles and hawks in our area and no trees? I been thinking about setting up shade cloth over the run.
Thanks.
It does fine. These breeds are very heat tolerant too. We have dogs that patrol our property. We have hawks but have never lost a chicken to a hawk attack.
We did have one hen get eaten by an owl at night because she didn't make it into the coop in time.
Thanks. Are aerial predators, i.e., hawks not a problems? I am adding wire on top of our run because of this issue.
They can be an issue. Luckily my dogs patrol enough that it mitigates the issue. I have only lost 1 to an owl at night because she didn’t get into the coop in time.
I used old fishing net. Actually, caught a falcon after it killed two chickens.
@@akadcp82 Yes, we tried bird netting and caught three of our hens, but all were fine, other that scared. Now, I'm installing 4" x 4" post in the ground and will put wire across the top. The ceiling will be 72". Debatable if having dogs in a cheaper solution with veterinary bills, as I have owned dogs before, but don't have any now.
I tried to find the link for the roll a way egg boxes. Didn't find it 😕 Thank you.
Right below the video in the description.

5.50 for 1 dozen in Wichita Falls Tx, this week
Not terrible.
What is the advantage of having the coop in a sunny location?
Keeps the coop and the run more dry. Birds need the sun for health as well.
@CountryLivingExperience Thanks. Looks like we may need to cut down a tree to convert our shed into a coop.
How do you deal with the rats that come along with chickens? I've tried all of the baking soda ideas and they just don't work.
We don't have rats. Never seen one here.
I have outdoor dogs and cats that are constantly patrolling so maybe that is why.
Do you ever butcher older hens that no longer lay? Or do you let them live out their lives.
I usually give unwanted chickens to a friend who puts them in his stew pot. I haven't given him any hens because mine are only 5 at this point. I do give him roosters currently.
My ISA Browns are going on yr 3 had 16 hens now have 13 so far now I get 2 to 3 eggs a day with this breed first year was great. Now I have freeloaders but now they ate my pets now, can't make stew out of them, and they have names. Tip don't get this breed too many health issues, my wife had to drain water belly on 3 chickens so far.
I went to get a loan so I can buy a dozen eggs. Buy the way why can't they inoculate chickens against bird flu?
Good question
Here on the wet side of Washington at the discount grocery Winco, eggs are about $5.50 / dozen for the non-fancy types. Once we move out of this commie state to Idaho, we're looking to get enough property to have both layers and meat birds.
Hope you get out soon
Didn't the President promise prices would come down on day one?
Live in their world or create your own
Oh good... we're talking about chickens, and the cherry pickers are the first ones to arrive.
Yeah, well he didn't expect the last one to have millions of chickens slaughtered before he left office. You do realize you need chickens to get eggs, right?
😂 too bad your girl Kamala did not win 😂 🇺🇸
