  • The murder of 19-year-old Patricia Curran shocked 1950's Ulster. She was the daughter of Lancelot Curran, local MP, eminent judge and a member of Northern Ireland's ruling elite.
Iain Hay Gordon, a 20-year-old RAF technician, was convicted of her killing and sent to an asylum, but cleared nearly 50 years later. The mystery has never been solved.

The time delay and not contacting the police straight away speaks volumes to me.

I think the priest did it and has spent his life repenting. Is there any evidence left that could be tested today?

It was a psychopath who murdered her but psychopaths are NEVER shy nervous little fellows!!!!.. I would question the young men in a certain parish in South Africa as to the virtue of their priest who it seems is fearless! And do I detect black hair dye? Why is the accused man the one who is being deferential here?

It was not a psychopath who killed her. It was an immature man who reacted impulsively when he was rejected, and who happened to carry a knife.

I am sure Gordon is innocent, a guilty man, who got away with 7 years in a low security mental hospital, would have the good sense to keep his mouth shut, and not keep drawing attention to the case. It is a little odd that her brother will not let go of his old belief, even after reviewing the evidence, but then, maybe that is just the type of him, after all he has steadfastly hung onto his religion, and never questioned that. I dont think he had an affair with Gordon, because if he had, Gordon would of spilled the beans already.
I think it very possible that a random stranger followed her and killed her, who knows, maybe someone who had a run in with her father in the courts and she was his/her revenge? We will never know at this stage.

I think that there is a possibility that Desmond Curran was not involved and that when he returned home from the law courts that evening, his father Judge Curran had already started the cover up by stating that his wife found Patricia already dead when she returned home from playing bridge with the Davidsons and that they needed to move the body so that people did not think she died in the house as that would start rumours and Desmond being loyal to his parents and especially his father was happy to accept this as the truth.

    Probably Lady Curran did it.
She was a patient in Holywell Hospital herself.
Though that doesn't mean she did it.
