The best thing I ever found in a second hand shop was the hand made bear that my mum made for me when I was a baby and I lost at the age of 3 in a completely different province. We moved across the country (Canada, so it's a big country) and 19 years later I found the bear that my mother had made for me! I bought it for 25 cents, and compared it to old photographs and showed it to my mum who agreed that it was in fact the same bear that she had sewed when she was pregnant with me! I have no idea where she was for 19 years, but she looked like she was untouched from my childhood. That fridge is beautiful, thank you for sharing this video!

@@HermioneChantal The strangest part (stranger part?) is that the province I found the bear is is neither the one I live in or the one I lost her in. She was lost in British Colombia and found in Ontario. I live in Quebec, and was only in Ontario for a visit.
My mum found my grandma's necklace (very intricate, unique piece) in a second hand shop. The necklace had been stolen from a hotel room in Berlin 30 years ago. Wild!

I’m trying to imagine the scenario that ended with that fridge at a charity shop! I picture a bad divorce and a soon to be ex-husband tossing out the pink fridge that has taunted him for years maybe? 😂😂😂
I have wondered the same thing. Who would get rid of something like that 😂 a disgruntled ex-husband sounds about right 😅 poor fridge!
Well, your version is so much better than mine! I instantly assumed it was just someone rich enough to buy a new Smeg fridge, with a bigger freezer, or perhaps a different colour 😂

Maybe somebody had to move really quickly and didn’t have time to sell it and couldn’t bring it.
Good option but I also see someone who has money to burn and follows trends to the point they decided to ditch the pink or go with one of the styles that Justina Blakeney (@thejungalow) recently put in her kitchen. Personally, I’d rather have the Smeg.

Maybe some narrow shelves either side of the fridge? Theyd have to be kinda understated or somehow match its majesty though. So gorgeous!
Love that idea, and you're so right about keeping them understated too (knowing me I would fill them with clutter though 😂 so I might wait and see how it goes first so the fridge has some time to shine haha) thank you for the comment
U shaped shelving in white around the fridge, but not as deep as the fridge. Then add a fancy....trim on the bottom part of the top cabinet/shelf area?
Yes! Something small - or even move the fridge to the left and narrow shelves or cupboard “pantry” to the right so that nook looks more intentionally filled. So pretty!!
Yes - I was thinking the same thing - something waist-height perhaps - so you can still put magnets on the side - was also thinking the Ikea Raskog trolley or similar (white, not too much junk on it)
@@jenniferh3111 I was thinking the same. Also put the fridge a little bit out to make it stand out. Better a closed cupboard to keep the shopping bags and other eyesore things.

Wow that was the most amazing find in a charity shop ever! I'd love to know the back story to the person getting rid of it. So kind of them to donate it as well rather than selling it.

Beautiful fridge. Suggestion. Could the fridge be moved to where your coffee cup cabinet is? It seems so far from your sink work area. Think the coffee cup cabinet would look good tucked in that corner where fridge is now.
Having the fridge in front of the radiator does not seem to be the best solution.. ;-)
This is incredible! To find any smeg appliance at the thrift store would be crazy but one of their fridges? Wow! And only £250! You hit the jackpot girl! How awesome!
Also, I think the fridge should definitely be styled to be the highlight of your kitchen... not sure where it could go but I’m sure you’ll play around and find a spot where it can shine as soon as you enter the kitchen!
I love Smeg appliances, but they are expensive in the States. I may go for a toaster perhaps. Way to go , and yes it is one in a million find at such a good price.

Best find at the charity shop: two Hollywood Regency bedside tables and matching tallboy, two crystal lamps to go with, and a cherub lamp and candle stick. All 60s, for 185$ in total.

BEST FIND EVER!!! Excellent way to start 2021!! Well done on running into the shop and scooping up that Pink Smeg beauty!! Consider adding that larger art print (then add another one to the wall above the plants) above the pink Smeg fridge! And consider adding thin rolling shelves beside her for extra storage! Or you could add a hook to the side wall next to the new Smeg to hang your prettiest shopping bags - maybe some pretty pink shopping bags (with other bags stuffed inside for shopping)?? Cheers!

My mum used to own a Smeg Fridge when I was a kid. I do have a very big soft spot for them and will definitely buy one when I next move.
The best thing I ever bought in a charity shop was a long purple velvet evening dress. It fits like a glove and I feel so good when I wear it.

My Grandparents have had a pink smeg fridge for as long as I've known (so at least 18 years which is pretty impressive for an appliance!) I have always loved it and it suits your kitchen so so well!! I love how it reflects a pink glow on the walls.. so pretty

That fridge screams your name!! It's so pretty!
Maybe you could make some built in shelves along the wall with a cutout for the fridge! That way you could pull the fridge out a little more so it will be seen from the entrance of the kitchen, but the shelves behind will hide the fact that it's a few centimetres off of the wall. That leaves you with more storage too, but might hide a little of its beauty 🌈

Fantastic find!... she was sitting there waiting to be re-homed and how happy does she look in your lovely kitchen. I`ve never had such a huge find as a fridge, however if I`m thinking of something the thrifty fairy always seems to put it right where I can find it..
Haha reminds me of my excitement of finding a huge original Lee Reynolds painting, framed, for $60 in a thrift store. I bought it before even thinking through whether it would even fit in the car.

OMG i love that fridge its like bubblegum! My best find in a charity shop was our gorgeous bed frame. Its a six foot wide gun metal grey elegant frame - never seen one like it ever and it was only £200 - sounds a lot but if you could see the quality of it - its like nothing i have ever seen its so beautiful but so sturdy - we have moved several times since we bought it and it is still perfect. Its blissful!!

Suggestion: put your microwave / toaster oven in the corner to the left of your large pink canisters, this will free up so much counter space. Your kitchen is lovely.....well done!

What a beautiful find, I am soooo envious. May I suggest that you try the fridge diagonally in the corner? I had limited space between my island corner and the hefty ‘smeg-style’ fridge. I had to dodge around the fridge door as I opened it but when I moved it to a diagonal position it not only functioned better in the space but the kitchen weirdly seemed bigger. Mine isn’t as pretty as yours either. Yours will show even more as you enter the kitchen.

Hi Hermione, your excitement is so infectious. Your new pink SMEG fridge is so beautiful, I am so happy for you. When we moved into our bungalow, we inherited a huge American style fridge freezer, it was so amazing and looked fabulous in the kitchen. Unfortunately we also inherited a huge range which I tried for 2 years to love, but alas it did not love me back, so with the rest of the kitchen looking really tired it was time for a make over. So off we went to B&Q, returning with our bank balance beaten into submission, and 6 weeks later we had a beautiful new kitchen. The biggest surprise was the sale of the range paid for nearly half the kitchen, who knew. But my beautiful American fridge had to go, to be replaced by a pantry and ironing board and other tall stuff cupboard. So ends the tale of the lost fridge. 💐💐💐💐💐

The pink fridge is glorious in your space . My favourite find in a thrift shop was my CENI sofa in lagoon blue from Article . It was brand new and 600 off retail . I bought it on the spot. And love it in my living room .

I think shelves around the fridge would look great. Kind of a built in look. Use for pretty open pantry storage. Labeled mason jars, etc. And it would be one of the best days of my life if I found one of these beauties for $250! It is a one in a million find for sure

This is AMAZING! I would've broken the sound-barrier getting to that fridge in a charity shop - but I'm so glad you got it - it seems made for you.
BTW - I think I would consider buying a 3-tier Ikea trolley (like the Raskog) or narrow shelving unit to go beside the fridge, you could push it slightly towards the corner and still maximize the storage space (without getting something too tall which would obscure it).

Best find: a 12" Simply Calphalon pan! Huge. Ready for oven or stovetop use. 2nd very large skillet I own and both from a charity shop. Winning!!!
I’ve got an idea which may work for the space. U could always put the fridge on more of an angle in the corner of the alcove. It would take up more space but I think it could work and you’d see it more without it sticking out, overpowering the space etc and this way you’d be able to see more of such an iconic fridge, which is a phrase I never thought I’d say

ive done a lot of traveling & my older brother started me by giving me fridge magnets from wherever he traveled. i continued on until one day...just like you...i got a new fridge(not a smeg unfortunately.) & when i saw the beauty of my new spot resistant stainless steel fridge without all the silly magnets, post it notes & polaroids from friends nites out,etc...i swear, the whole kitchen was looking cleaner & brighter! i put all the magnets in a bowl & now its a pet peeve of mine..i want to tell everyone...get rid of all the junk on your fridges! lol. well this was a minute of your reading life you'll never get back....covid madness makes you talk to anyone about anything!!!! oh, i came back to say...love what you did!
