My favorite SMG is the hornet. So far I like its accuracy and burst for observers and the mini remnant boss that has the double turrets. Although I think I will definitely try out the equalizer now with the electrical current converter.
For semi-auto hand cannons, the Carnifex is as good as advertised. Accurate, high damage, clip large enough for skirmishing; only fault is max ammo not large enough for protracted battles. Being average in all fields translates into large DPS when it matters. Pistols with larger damage, don't have a large enough clip; hand cannon with lower damage like predator can't deliver the DPS. Started using Sidewinder lately, since it has theoretically the highest RoF, with minimal recoil, it can be a beast against most enemies; but again max ammo is a problem.I have a simple test for guns: can I kill most enemies like anointed and observers without having to reload? If so, it's a good gun.
Talon with Ricochet and Plasma Charge augs. It's like a pocket plasma grenade launcher. Extremely OP with Tactical Cloak, but a bit lacking on the ammo side.
Hornet's power build is: beam emitter, automatic fire system (which forces beam emitter to continue through a reload instead of stopping), and bio converter. It's absolutely insane. Keep it on the head and a Fiend's going down before you even need to dodge out of the way. An Anointed hasn't even made it through basic weapons training before a voice from the future informs it that it began life already-melted. And what I tested was only a level-III on a build with zero weapon increasing skills... imagine an X on a kitted-out soldier! After a half hour or so with it I'm actually going back and deliberately not researching it because it made the game too easy. It's THAT effective.
Profiles are an important factor for this. Soldiers go well with full auto spray and pray guns like Hurricane , infiltrators do well with burst fire like the Hornet. Vanguards aren't shotgun centric anymore, but if you go deep enough into shotgun tree with melee synergy, they can stack melee damage bonuses pretty high.
I've settled in the Hurricane with Bio-converter and plasma tracker augments. High rate of fire that never let's up with the above augments, hits most of what you shoot at even behind cover. I've used it to take down Architects, resorting to the Black widow only during initial engagement before hordes come on. If I didn't enjoy sniping so much (though it is less enjoyable since there are very few/no one-shot-to-the-head kills LIKE THERE SHOULD BE , especially for amazed out rifle with augs and mods).
I love that you set variables for each of your comparison videos. Makes each choice more informative. I use SMG's as a backup to my Biotic Shotgun beast Ryder, but still, would be good to know which ones are best, and you deliver, sir. You deliver. Equalizer + Bio-converter + electrical mods might contend with my Reegar Combine Shotgun with my Biotic Vanguard build... Seems to shred shields. Should be pretty effective vs. Remnant. And I can use a Pirhanna or Scattershot on armored targets.
I've since realised even on the electrical conduits the rate of fire was resetting which means it's kind more epic than I thought and that as it goes up in ranks it will upgrade better than the rest as the top rate of fire increases, so would be a good choice!
I've been editing as I've watched this video, Which did you mean? The Equalizer or the Hornet? I'm leaning toward the Equalizer with Bio-Converter and elec mods. Also, any thoughts on the Pathfinder weapons you get from the deluxe edition? Particularly the SMG? It has one more damage than the Hurricane per level (I think) and the rate of fire seems... OK. Given mods, it could be decent. FWIW, I'm on PC. No controller wonkiness and I tend to aim decently (if I don't drink, which I'm guilty of right now :P).
M-25 Hornet is my main weapon, love the weapon, it doesn't need augments to be great. It lets me allocate more Research Points into other weapons builds.
I had no idea the electrical conduits were so great on these guns! I may make an electrical equalizer just to mess around with, especially if I know I'll be going against Remnant specifically, thanks! Though the Thokin is still my choice for most cases, something about it just feels so right XD Bio converter spamming made so effective with Shattered Defences and the gun's innate RoF is now my life
great videos. nice work on showing each gun in action with augments. nice editing too. you can tell work went into making this video. good youtuber unlike other lazy youtubers who dont even show footage of the guns in action. keep up the good work.👍👍👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Fair enough! I'm using a controller on PC, so the burst works well for me. I can easily hit 2 or even 3 headshots at middle range with this, while I would struggle with the Valkyrie. The Hurricane was great, too, but I found that shooting 5-round bursts made it the most accurate while still doing less damage than the Hornet.
Perfect timing! Was considering an Electro-SMG, and was hoping you would test them soon. It is a very minor quirk, but I am not a fan of the unusual scope designs, so am likely going to go with the Hurricane instead. However, currently am using the Reeger Shotgun for this, and wonder what are the top choices for medium to short range; converted SMG, AR, or Reeger?
+Eldon Whisler the hurricane and P.a.w with conduits are beyond the reegar imo, which is better is a tough call, hurricane is lighter, cheaper, but the P.a.w may have a slight damage edge
I'm using Equalizer with Electrical Conduits, and have come across the dilemma of whether I should take the Unassisted Targeting passive, or the Assisted Targeting passive in the pistol/smg skill tree. Since Equalizer is used at such a close range anyway, do you find that the field-of-view advantage of playing without a scope, overweighs the advantage of higher accuracy when scoping?
+Alcolizzato Razionale i find it difficult to aim without a scope, I'm just that use to scoping for precision shots even at close range, Dhan is the only thing i ever hip fire, so I'll always go for scope style, I'd say it more about your ability on either. Whichever you are better at, pick that
Hah, thanks for the reply. And the video too, it was a great compilation that saved me a lot of work. Anyway I just realised an additional reason why I enjoy hip-firing with the Equalizer: I move faster whilst firing, which is really nice as a vanguard who is constantly in the thick of things. I do decently without a scope at that short range, so I guess it's no scope for my Equalizer (and my other weapon is the Dhan, which you introduced me to. It's fantastic and incredibly fun to use, so a third thanks for that.)
I'd love to see some testing of builds for that little shotgun-pistol. I'm a tech heavy build (with HP regeneration as a skill), so pistols and SMGs are my usual go. maybe a shotty or sniper rifle. My usual pistol been the Ushior; is there a damage drop when you augment it with the heat sync? I haven't really compared yet.
+K Fuji there shouldn't be a damage drop with a heat sink, unless say for a hurricane where the recharge time is slightly longer than the reload time leading to a slight drop in DPS. And I'll be testing that soon :)
Granted, at 450, the fire rate is so slow that it might be mistaken for a semi-auto. Even holding the left mouse button down for full auto felt like I was feathering the trigger like I would on a Mattock.
Haven't had chance to get on the game etc yet, but a quick few searches showed while in ME3 it was classed as automatic, its classed as semi automatic in Andromeda, which if it fires automatically is just weird. Damn confusing ass game lol
+Brazen NL I thought this when i first read them but my Dhan with anti armor seems to do more DMG. Either way this is a weapon that's almost entirely made for power users mostly against shielded folk, so, still works
CAN HELP OUT I MADE THE N7 PATHFINDER SMG I PUT SOME AUG ON THE GUN BUT WHEN I TRY TO DESTROY IT IT WONT GIVE ME BACK THE AUG ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW OR WHY THIS HAPPENS.
+xICUx Leatherface This is a glitch with the game, your only choice is to either save the weapon till they have fixed it so you can retrieve them. Or go back to a save before you made it which, would be harsh. Best plan is to keep it till they fixed the issue, its a known issue so will be attended to at some point
+Jason Reiyn because it doesn't make logical sense that is would be better than the conduits except for maybe the hornet now i think about it. Also the video was already nearly 20 mins long
I've actually gotten a little time in using the hornet with the sticky grenade option. I love the game, but don't honestly have a lot of time for playing. For what it's worth the rate of fire means that you should have all 3 hitting your target. I've also found adding anti-armor mods useful as I fire 4 or 5 bursts and get out of the way of whatever big mob is coming for me and as the explosions start it's health gets a hard hit. I won't say it's "needed" but I'm having fun with it, and on normal level original run it's doing very well.
Looks like there's not much of a trade off between pistols and assault rifles... Probably be worth going a variety of pistols early on instead of assault rifles just for weight concerns.
not currently, the overall consensus is that it's bugged, it should do great damage on armour or so folk say, maybe they'll finally fix it at some point
Will you do a video about how effective are the companions in battle? Honestly in insanity they don't stand out for me much, maybe besides Liam with his Overload. Its a shame he is an asshole. Most of the time I just mix and match whoever I fancy like in ME3. Only in ME2 I actually picked companions based on what enemies I will face.
hmmm, this could work!, I currently pay them little head, I just kinda ignorem and do my own thing. Cora have saved my ass a few times with her team support shield recharge and drak if anything gets in my way killing enemies before I get the chance to headshottem :( which is a bitter sweet type deal.
I play as an adept, high level bionic build. Having tried all weapons and shying away from bio converters I have settled on two weapons that serve well and I think are the best in the game for an adept. The equalizer........well ya see electrical conduits in my opinion suck....why?? You want a weapon that will serve well in any situation and electrical conduits are totally worthless against any armor. The game also will not allow you to use a penetrating receiver with electrical conduits. The equalizer is a close range weapon but it is deadly if you keep it vanilla and simply add penetrating receiver, damage barrel, and a large clip. Scope or not really does not matter as you are close range. Electrical conduits were a huge disappointment for me as I find the vanilla base system far exceeds it provided you put the penetrating receiver on the weapon. It even eats up big blue Fiends...........with electrical conduits you are playing a risky game with any armored enemy. I put two shield bypass modules on it also and although not easy it will take down an ascendant without much trouble. The second is the Piranha shotgun with also seeking plasma, penetrating receiver, armor modules, shield oscillator and large clip. I find I never run out of ammo with the large clip mod and the Piranha is simply used for armored enemies, fiends, and ascendants. Nope I tried electrical conduits on both the PAW and Equalizer and did not like it on either weapon as it limited me to shielded enemies only and the vanilla built in shield damage bonus combined with a penetrating receiver does a much better job for me...........at least on high levels. Cheers! Kit
These videos is more for showing, what are the best Augments for XYZ SMG's *video title* to make xyz weapon shine, and less about the best weapon augments to make a specific build shine. So yea, you had me scratching my head in more ways than one, when you mentioned you're using 2 'Shield Bypass' ((Weapon) +5% Power Damage Bonus to Shields) and not a 'Electrical Conduit' ( (Weapons) Now fires a beam of electricity). I'm curious though, for the 'Shield Bypass' augment to work, don't you must already have an ability that deals bonus dmg on Shield? But anyway, in your arguement you wrote "You want a weapon that will serve well in any situation and electrical conduits are totally worthless against any armor" -in regards to Equalizer, but then you later wrote "I find I never run out of ammo with the large clip mod and the Piranha is simply used for armored enemies, fiends, and ascendants" -Piranha... In that case...And seeing that you favor Penetration as an ideal stat. I'm going to lean toward M-25 Hornet with augments: Auto Fire System, Bio-Convert, Double Mod, kinetic Coil. In essence it's a well rounded weapon, does decent on armor and shield, and pretty light weight. There's just so many amazing builds that works better with certain weapons and playstyles. If you still wondering why Equalizer with Electrical Conduit: try a Tech/Biotic build, with Flamethrower, Tactical Cloak, and Charge with Sentinel Profile. You face tank/dps all enemies, you instant heal/shield with a press of a button, cover is meaningless to you, most fights ends in seconds, abilities up within seconds. Team support gives you back HP when you use Flamethrower or Tactical Cloak, Charge gives you full shield. You'd go: Cloak (buff dmg) >Flamethrow (one of the highest dmg skill, melts armor/health, and stops unit from attack due to 'on fire' stagger) >Charge (mass detonate fire combo). By the time you used Charge, Cloak is almost back up along with Flamethrow to repeat everything all over. The last skill on Tactical Cloak puts you in stealth when you melee, so using that with Asari Sword (default melee animation makes you invulnerable) you can get out of every "Oh shit" moments. Equalizer and Piranha works well here, but Equalizer is there for the anti shield and just well rounded for the build. For even more extra, unneeded survival, you can throw in the Augment: Shield Oscillator ( Weapon: When clip empties: Restores 25% shields, Chest: On enemy killed: Restores 25% shields), and use the armor mod for 100% more shield/ 50% less health.
i usually fall into a build with charge/lance/shield no matter how i play. i have tried countless smgs and in the end they are useless compared to a good rifle/shotgun....
+Super Man things definitely change their usefulness based on your playstyle for sure, and your playstyle is dictated by what you find to be most fun. I love how preference based this game is, you can use almost any gun and it'll kill things in the end, so preference overrides usefulness. I disagree about the mods as penetration is super useful, I'd have thought you'd find it very good with a ball, stability also, it improves the ball more than most for that second shot. And awesome, its also good to experiment as while you like what you have, you might like something else more :) And thank you :)
Just wait until all of the augmentations are available, a full auto augmentation is making its way to the game (already there apparently but unobtainable as of yet), add this to a hornet and your laughing
Don't think it was intentional, Ian Frazier tweeted about it saying that there are 3 augmentations that are just not showing up at vendors/loot/R&D etc. and one of the upcoming patches will fix it
Seeking plasma is really shit, try hitting a running target, the kett can just outrun the plasma bolts. Any milky way gun you can lead your aim a little in front and nail those suckers. Even in short range plasma bolts tend to 'arc' towards a moving target 'chasing' them instead of hitting and I eventually killed them with melee before they hit. Utter shit.
I find SPS is good for long range (Slight corrections are more useful and they're normally not running) and spraying from cover in medium range firefights. However at shorter range the EC just trump it completely. I'm also unsure if the cover penetration mod works properly on EC.
What's your favourite semi-automatic pistol build?
My favorite SMG is the hornet. So far I like its accuracy and burst for observers and the mini remnant boss that has the double turrets. Although I think I will definitely try out the equalizer now with the electrical current converter.

Equalizer! Haven't played around with many others since getting onto the EQ with electric thing and homing plasma stuffs. good times.

Love the mod/aug tracker on the side, makes the vids easier to follow.

Might still consider it. Keeping my options open. Big thanks :)
These are great videos, keep the the good work!
+neirboca thank you!
Another excellent field test thanks.
Nice work, again. Subscribed.
+Plathismo awesome to hear :)
I used Bio-Conduit Equalizer on my insanity playthrough. Soldier build - using Charge, Turbocharged and Energy Drain. Very powerful.

I found the Seeking Plasma augment pretty interesting on the Equaliser. Also fun.
another great guide
Why didn't you use Automatic Fire System on the Hornet to make it full-auto? You can even combine that with Electrical Conduits and Bio Converter too.
Jaal... what are you doing? 4:12
What you can't hear in the video is Jaal repeating "Brah Brah BRAH BRAH! BRAH!! BRAH!!! BRAH!!!!"
good job bud
+Umbradens Wolfking thx mate, appreciate it :)
Maybe one of most underated game in history .

excellent

do you plan on doing a multiplayer recommended weapons vid? since there are no augments in MP I think it would be a little easier to do.
Perfect timing! Was considering an Electro-SMG, and was hoping you would test them soon. Hang on, why isn't the N7 Eagle on this vid? It's a fully automatic pistol.
+Patrick Flores that is news to me, it's neither described as an SMG or said to be automatic. I'll rectify this in the next video

Damn confusing ass game lol
Shield Bypass gives your _powers_ extra damage to shields, not the gun itself. The same goes for any other augment that adds a power damage bonus.
+Brazen NL I thought this when i first read them but my Dhan with anti armor seems to do more DMG.
Either way this is a weapon that's almost entirely made for power users mostly against shielded folk, so, still works

Where can I buy an electrical conduit from I've lost my crafting one some how.
+craig H i haven't seen any of those on a merchant, its a drop rate thing, hidden caches and mobs
Why do you test on normal difficulty? Virtually everything is effective on normal. I think Insanity would be a better testing benchmark.
+Thinking-Ape Its not just about what's effective, its about how they work and whats good Vs each other
Just a point of curiosity. Why didn't you test sticky grenade or other mods?
+Jason Reiyn because it doesn't make logical sense that is would be better than the conduits except for maybe the hornet now i think about it. Also the video was already nearly 20 mins long

Equalizer with electricity aug is great up close, but the range on it is terrible.
+Xavier Vega tbh the range on an SMG should be fairly terrible, its a pocket ar,
i usually fall into a build with charge/lance/shield no matter how i play. i have tried countless smgs and in the end they are useless compared to a good rifle/shotgun....
And awesome, its also good to experiment as while you like what you have, you might like something else more :)
And thank you :)
Just wait until all of the augmentations are available, a full auto augmentation is making its way to the game (already there apparently but unobtainable as of yet), add this to a hornet and your laughing
+KhaosByDesign UK once it arrives I'll do a video on it. Silly to halt everything till then
Don't think it was intentional, Ian Frazier tweeted about it saying that there are 3 augmentations that are just not showing up at vendors/loot/R&D etc. and one of the upcoming patches will fix it
You should really test the weapons on insanity.
Also, Insanity difficulty becomes annoying due to the lack of Quicksave and restricted Save system experienced in many missions.
Beam is bugged, i think it deal no damage to anything.
+AnselmoLB it does deal damage just super tiny, yeah bugged would make sense
its suposed to do less in health, like the energy projecttion, but high damage to armor.
I thought that aye, was hoping it was the electrical version for armour
Seeking plasma is really shit, try hitting a running target, the kett can just outrun the plasma bolts. Any milky way gun you can lead your aim a little in front and nail those suckers. Even in short range plasma bolts tend to 'arc' towards a moving target 'chasing' them instead of hitting and I eventually killed them with melee before they hit. Utter shit.
+John Doh aye, found that myself
I find SPS is good for long range (Slight corrections are more useful and they're normally not running) and spraying from cover in medium range firefights. However at shorter range the EC just trump it completely.
I'm also unsure if the cover penetration mod works properly on EC.
+Erik Vale i cant say it definitely works fully but the penetration does work
seeking plasma only work well with shotgun, it make all pellet hit the target and for the short range they cant dodge this sht
It definately works better with shotguns, but they can still dodge.
Had fun 'sniping' with my SPS Hesh though when I ran out of ammo for others.
