  • Here are some clips of Geoff Edwards at work. Not many people could fill Monty Hall's shoes, but during an emergency, Geoff was called. His quick-wit and ability to ad lib made him a perfect choice to sub on "Let's Make a Deal". Also included are some funny moments from "The New Treasure Hunt", a telephone call only Geoff could make and Geoff battles a fire.

I wish there were more episodes of the original NBC "Jackpot!" Geoff's banter with Don Pardo. the contestants and the New York audiences at 30 Rock was always precious. It was Lin Bolen who killed the show when she insisted it drop the riddles and make it a question & answer quiz. Considering how many game shows tried to copy what "Jackpot!" did (Barry & Enright's "Blank Check" comes to mind, that should have rung the warning bell: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I'd LOVE to see the TH pilot in its entirety, even though it's obvious the reactions were painfully staged since it was a pilot. You can definitely see where the idea for the "high school fight song" type music used in the actual show came from, though.
Also, am I dreaming things up or do I remember correctly that the contestants themselves occasionally got pied? It'd explain the quick (and hilarious) thinking on this contestant's part!!!
    RIP Geoff.

Thank you! it was quite a story. They took a percentage of the cost of the station wagon, $1,000 and they didn't show the his and hers golf clubs, but she also won that. My parents took all of the money and moved from Cucamonga, California (it wasn't called Rancho Cucamonga in 1974) to Benton/Hardin, Ky. They opened up the only healthfood in the tri-state area within a 200 mile radius. They moved it to Paducah, KY in 1976 or 1977. Golden Carrot Natural Foods is still there, and now their grandson, my son, is the manager. We never would have moved to KY if it had not been for the prize money. Sorry to say so much, but I just wonder how many other lives were so completely changed. Moving to KY at 15, sure changed my life! for the better.

      that's so amazing :)
something happened to me on a game show back in 1993 when i was on Scrabble for a special kids week where i was SO close to winning but won my 1st car with the money i won, which was $1,500 for 2 words(got $500 bonus for the 2nd word & $1,000 for the 1st word) but i still have that car(a 1974 Ford Maverick)

That is awesome! Do you have a copy of your video? I hope so...it is especially fun as the years go by. That is incredible you still have the car! I took my driving test in '74 Maverick. You have to able to think on your feet to play Scrabble and have presence of mind in front of the TV camera....were you nervous? I don't know that I have ever watched the television show Scrabble?!

Wink, both you & Geoff go a way back in 1975 (nearly 40 years ago) when the both of you were @ KMPC in Los Angeles. Being almost 4 years apart, the both of you had a lot in common, in the game show world, even traveling & working with the greatest people, inc. Pat Finn, Bill Cullen & Bob Barker (who still ranks #1 amongst all countless game show hosts, the way I ranked Buddy Ebsen as my #1 actor in 'surrogate parenting,' on my Facebook page). Geoff had a great sense of humor, his love of hosting game shows were spectacular, and was almost being used, too. you & I will both miss him, RIP!

That "Treasure Hunt" set, which I assume is from the pilot, looks so unusual compared to what eventually went to air. It was weird when I first heard that he did a show like that, because I remember first hearing of him when he hosted "The New/$40,000 Chain Reaction", because that's what was on in Canada when we had only four channels (That version of the show was taped in Montreal). Looking at what else he has done, it looks like he had a pretty good career. RIP, Geoff.

I wonder what year the "Mind Readers" pilot is from. It looks like that was a Bob Stewart produced pilot, due to the "Love Experts" theme being used for it. There was also an actual series of the same name (although this one was just one word--"Minderaders") produced by Goodson-Todman.

    • @andrewschroy6368

Tubewings That "Mind Readers" pilot does scream Bob Stewart to me... :D
BTW, I believe it was taped in 1979, right around the time the GT game was made.
BTW, was this and "$50,000 a Minute" the only game show Geoff Edwards did that had Jack Clark as announcer?

    • @WarioBarker
      @WarioBarker 7 лет назад

I know this is really, *really* late, but per Variety "Mind Readers" was taped 10/30/78. And yes, it was a Bob Stewart show. (Funnily enough, it was also shot for NBC.)

The "Mind Readers" pilot is intriguing. There would be a future game show with that same title in 1979 (as "Mindreaders") and it would a celebrity-civilian game hosted by Dick Martin. Sadly, this game would
be the last show the great pair Mark Goodson and Bill Todman would
produce together before Todman's death in 1981.
