+Eden tification as much as I love my 3DS, because I do, this bad boy was my pride n joy, and I still have it and Final Fantasy Tactics advance still has my old save on it.
+Daemon Blackfyre you guys must be really young then... lol nostalgia for me is Wario Land on my gameboy pocket, then pokemon silver on my gb color. my sister had the first gb with tetris and batman 1989.
agree. started playing alot recently after not playing for years, ended up bidding on and winning a 101 after researching and seeing how much brighter it is. is it impossible to find in stores? ebay seems the only way to get one
@@Vendzora thing of beauty, but it hasn’t aged well for me because my hands get all cramped up when I play it now. Also accidentally clicking those little R and L buttons at the top a lot.
I remember back in the day me and all my cousins had gameboys and we would go in the back room of our grandma's house and chill back there and watch TV, Play Video Games or just talk to each other (it was are hang out little hang out spot when we came over) i miss the 2000s when i was little *ahhhhh* good times
That is AWESOME! I just tried it on my Game Boy Advance SP AGS-101. I was wondering how you can get that type of picture. Because original Game Boy games generally play in some type of color. I know you can do the monocrome mode for the Game Boy Player for the GameCube, which you can see on videos on youtube. Thanks for the tip!
Love my GBA sp! It still has that classic nintendo feel while the DS feels like modern Nintendo. Nothing wrong with that but I still love the classic feel!
My friend recently gave me his game boy advance to me as a birthday gift. It's not the back lit model but it's still great to play the old games I use to love.
Yeah. I didn't really care which one I got. I just cared that it was cheap because I was short on money, also I can save battery in the day with the AGS-001 by turning off the front-light. But the AGS-101 is better for purists because the front-light kinda messes with the colors but you can use the AGS-001 as a more comfortable torch because you don't have to hold it at a weird angle.
I prefer the backlit GBA SP over the original GBA and frontlit GBA SP models because the backlit GBA SP has a backlit screen. The original GBA, frontlit GBA SP and backlit GBA SP are awesome because they are backwards-compatible with original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games. The Game Boy Micro sucks because it plays GBA games only.
Zzerver I was born in 1988 and I've never heard anyone call it the gameboy "advanced" it was always just gameboy advance, maybe you were too young at the time and thought it was "advanced"?
The changes that the gameboy sp implemented were so awesome just on a standpoint of pure convenience. Rechargeable battery helps save money on AA batteries, the fold screen helping from scratches, the button to dim or brighten the screen, all and all a brilliant creation by Nintendo.
Too bad in europe we only got the "Tribal" and i think a spongebob themed GBA SP to be AGS-101 (With backlight). Also they came out very late in EU and are terribly hard to find here in switzerland. But from the "regular" AGS-001's with the really faded out color caused by the indirect light source can be found everywhere. Still going stable for 40-70CHF (40-70$). I remember i was really stunned by it's screen when a friend of mine had a "Tribal edition" and showed me the light feature, and how clear even my GB games looked! I still had (and have!) that old, yellowing, launch day Game Boy.) I decided later sponteanous to buy a good shape GBA SP from a fleamarket and was a bit dissapointed by its picture. weeks Iater i asked my friend if he has a 101 or a 001 number on it. Of course he had a 101! Bad luck for me i didn't know that difference until i got a 001 and paid 50 Bucks. But i have to say they are damn reliable little beasts! Be careful EU Buyers!
I know how hard it is to find one in Europe, in Norway, where i live its practically impossible, i searched everywhere for it for o a long time, but i finally found one now, the tribal one you were talking about, and i just bought it, and it is simply awesome! Such a nice display. It was quite expensive though, around a 100$, but i just had to buy it because it was the only one i could find.
+Zsmart I also got an AGS-101 in green for $25 the body got scratches all over and the label in the back are faded...the one in good condition with package box and manual must be pricey. Well at least it works.and screen is still shiny.
I can totally recommend to purchase a new Case for it. The onliest thing which needs time is the bottom part of it, because the screws are just stupid. But it looks like new now, completely worth it.
I remember me and my dad walked into game stop when I was little and he was willing to buy me a portable handheld system. I had the choice of the (new at the time) Nintendo DS or the GBA SP. I picked the GBA SP because i really liked the way it was designed and how it was so simple looking. After years of fun it met it's maker after it was crushed in the van door.
+No Normal Dog woow!!! now I won't buy a GBC and GB my aunt has an empty GBA SP I'll ask it from her her youngsters won't play it so I'll ask for it I'll just buy pokemon red then silver then emerald
Sadly, I lost mine years ago, and my copy of Pokemon Crystal along with it. I was standing in front of Red. I never beat that game. I never caught Entei. I still cringe when I think about that memory. Can anyone relate?
This was my first game boy that i got as a present back when it was released, It still works really well and is in great condition after all it has been 10 years!, I don't think I could ever part with it.
By far the best portable system from Nintendo. It has a back-lit screen, rechargeable battery, it's the most practical and the most flexible having the Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Color, & Gameboy library at your disposal...
Just had this model come in the mail with the same color. Other than the scratches from the previous owner who didn't care for it too week, its in good working condition and the screen is scratch free. Well worth it
Thank you so much for this review! (; u ;) A few months ago I brought a GBA SP, thinking that I finally hit jackpot (it was 15 bucks. + some games.) After that I watched this review and found out that the model I brought was the AGS-001. I FOUND A AGS-101 WITH A SHITLOAD OF GAMES FOR TEN BUCKS. without this review I wouldn't have 2 GBA SP's lying around in my room.
+Intercontinental Champion I finally got one (it's the pearl pink one so even better) and I also got two games as well, Tetris for Game Boy and Pokémon LeafGreen. I'm really glad after all this time. Sorry for the long reply.
Today I remembered that I had a Gameboy Advance SP in my closet. Until today I hadn't touched it in years and the one I own I must have owned for at least 10 years by this point. I took it out of the box, put Star Wars: Flight Of The Falcon in the cartridge slot, plugged it into the wall (cause the battery needed some charging), flipped the power button and holy shit it still works. I played a level of the game.
There is something magical about button mashing. I like the idea of mashing those few buttons (it was capable of quite some fast paced action), instead of implementing a second screen/ touch screen. You can also manually turn off the backlight, turn off the sound and bend it. DS does that automatically when you bend it, but GBA SP is a lot older. It's overall perfectly desinged. My fav Nintendo portable gaming system. Played a big role in my childhood.
I bought a Gameboy Advance SP a couple years ago after selling my DS Lite and realizing that I didn't have a way to play all of my GBA games anymore. Unfortunately, the one I bought ended up being the original front-lit ones, but it still gets the job done. I do hope to get the backlit one someday, however.
I traded it in for a DSi. At the time I wasn't aware that that system lacked backwards compatibility with the GBA. I was too caught up in the fancy camera and whatnot.
I like the front lit one more, it has a longer battery life because you can turn off the light entirely, which is also useful for playing with the sun on the screen. The backlit one HAS to stay on, you can only adjust brightness.
shut your face! I dont really mind the battery life thing. And even though it might not be great in the sun, i could live with it. and the back lit has better video quality and ive heard better sound quality. So unless ur on a 24 hour roadtrip on a super sunny day, id still go with the backlit.
My GBA SP model is AGS-101, Pearl Pink and it is in good condition. I remember I got it approximately, 7 years ago. The day before my B-day in June. I was so excited too I couldn't wait to play with it. Now it's old and the light is flickering from green to red even though it's fully recharged, so I have to buy a new battery. All I want for my B-day is a battery and $25. :D
The SP is easily my favorite. I own an Onyx AGS 101 that I snagged for $40 in excellent shape, my original 001 with the front lit screen and I also have the NES edition that I got online in the box and complete. It is more of a display piece. The 101 is easily the best one
I Just ordered a gameboy advance SP on amazon :D! It's graphite and it's model ags-101! Can't wait for it to come! I also ordered super mario bros. 3 for it :D!
I always wanted an SP as a kid, I ended up getting a PS2 instead, I always had a bit of regret, I am going to go to a used Game & DVD store and see if they have one this week! It's about time. :)
The PS2 was amazing too y'know! I plan on getting one soon to make-up for what I've missed in the gameboy - DS period. My 3DS was stolen last month and I don't have money to throw around so I thought why not get one!
I love the Game Boy Advance Sp. It could play over two generations of Game Boy games (mind that that is three types of games it can play) and had games that in my opinion were better than most of the third party games on the Nintendo DS. Speaking of that, I traded in at GameStop just to get a Nintendo DS. I regretted that decision greatly. Luckily, I found another one just like the one I had before for $20.
still the greatest portable console from Nintendo.
wait no...of ALL TIME.
+Eden tification as much as I love my 3DS, because I do, this bad boy was my pride n joy, and I still have it and Final Fantasy Tactics advance still has my old save on it.
+Edeniobennettsque yeah this and PSP
This babies got better games imo
+Daemon Blackfyre you guys must be really young then... lol nostalgia for me is Wario Land on my gameboy pocket, then pokemon silver on my gb color. my sister had the first gb with tetris and batman 1989.
GAMEBOY PLAYERS UNITE. GBA is still the best portable gaming console out there, and i have a vita which is awesome too. but GBA is childhood
but actually
Absolutely. A PSP/other portable devices possess emulation capabilities, but nothing beats the clamshell design of the SP. A thing of beauty.
agree. started playing alot recently after not playing for years, ended up bidding on and winning a 101 after researching and seeing how much brighter it is. is it impossible to find in stores? ebay seems the only way to get one
8 years later, oh boy. Guess why I am here again xD
@@Vendzora thing of beauty, but it hasn’t aged well for me because my hands get all cramped up when I play it now. Also accidentally clicking those little R and L buttons at the top a lot.
I got mine when it came out in 03. Still have it to this day.
Nice!
how is the hinge doing? really curious I got mine when it came out too
TheGreatUtopiaCat Its fine. It opens, closes and opens past its set angle just by a little bit.
phoenix_1234 do you still have it?
phoenix_1234 i think mines lost in my attic i had the coral pink one ughhh my literal childhood
Watching in 2022, still quality content! Thanks CGR!
A "new" device that is better than the original but no headphone jack. Sound familiar?
No Normal Dog Haha I made the same comment on another video.
I think Nintendo and Apple went out for a while...
No Normal Dog god dammit apple and Nintendo
_NoNormalDog _ The iPhone 7
To be truth, gba sp without earphone is acceptible. Iphone without earphone jack? VERY STUPID DECISION

Best handheld ever.
Im a 16 year old girl and I miss my game boy so much 😭😭😭 I'm going to try and order one from ebay soon.
@The Poetic Mike Tyson just because you had one dont mean you had it day 1 ,maybe it was down the line she had the gameboy
I born in 2006 and this is my favorite Gameboy
The Poetic Mike Tyson it said it was from 2005. And I had this exact one but black sooo
This very video made me pursue finding my Advance SP I got as a kid in 2002.... love having a little childhood treasure laying around!
No other handheld console has brought me as much joy as this one. There's just something special about it.
This was the best!
It was so compact and sturdy.
my first Nintendo handheld
Seriously, this thing was awesome. I got a red one packaged with Metroid Zero Mission in it, and that blew my goddamn mind when it was released.
I use to love playing this as a kid when I was younger
On the blacklight version of the SP, if you hold Left + B while an old game starts up, it plays it in monocrome mode and won't guess colors.
You know that works on any color game boy right.... It works on the GB Color and forward... but does not work on the micro for obvious reasons....
Works on game boy color too...
ROBUXVSTIX Yeah that is what I was trying to say... :-/
Love my GBA sp! It still has that classic nintendo feel while the DS feels like modern Nintendo. Nothing wrong with that but I still love the classic feel!
I got the AGS-001 and it brings back such good memories!
My friend recently gave me his game boy advance to me as a birthday gift. It's not the back lit model but it's still great to play the old games I use to love.
GBA SP for the win! The only thing you'll ever need!
I spent the last week bidding on every Ags 101 model I could find. Finally got one now! :D
+EpicCoolGuy923 nice i still have mine
What if u won alll
I'm stuck here with AGS-001 :( but it's really not that bad at all. Still a great handheld system.
Yeah. I didn't really care which one I got. I just cared that it was cheap because I was short on money, also I can save battery in the day with the AGS-001 by turning off the front-light. I absolutely LOVE watching your GB/GBC/GBA review videos!!!^^~ Awesome channel!
Just ordered an ags 101! So happy, can't wait for it to come in
All my gameboy games were all so hard to beat. I still can't beat them to this day...
Sophia Meehan maybe they weren't hard, you just suck.
Utonium Ph. D. really brah
Well I do suck so
+Sophia Meehan I still didn't manage to beat Super Mario Land's 2 end boss.
+Utonium Ph. D. lol. Casuals and their lack of skill.
im only 14 and im saving up for a gba sp,
gaming 101 Who wouldn’t?
Good. This is the one of the early 2000s dream. This is one hell of console
It was best to buy one back in the early 2010s
Same but I’m 12
I'm 13 and I'm going to buy one too
Who still playing the gba in 2023 ? I know I am.

What you can do is buy an AGS-001 and buy an AGS-101 screen and use the new screen.
Got an AGS-101 today out of pure luck.
+Zsmart I also got one today. It didn't cost much but it has multiple scratches on the chassis. Therefore a new chassis is ordered \o/

good decision. i dont see why that was a mistake
you can emulate GBA games on psp perfectly.
PestyWizard
I know and I do it from time to time but it's just not the same. Especially because I lost all my Pokemon saves.
still your lucky I lost my game boy advance sp and the Nintendo ds and I broke my psp and I regret it
PSP? No reason to buy from that company. Or Microsoft for that matter.
They Should Do A Remake Of The Gba Sp With Internet Capabilities.
+Jay Rob It's called the DS
Coleman Straight I have a 3ds. I don't know if i should upgrade to the new 3ds or 3ds xl.
+Jay Rob Nah. I still have the original model too
besides from GBC and GBA can it play Gameboy games?
please reply
Dondavid Cortes It can play pretty much every Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance game! It's great!

Sadly, I lost mine years ago, and my copy of Pokemon Crystal along with it. I was standing in front of Red. I never beat that game. I never caught Entei. I still cringe when I think about that memory. Can anyone relate?
I got my stolen on a vacation..
I sent mine across the world along with my GameCube and DS Lite to my cousins years ago ;-;
CreeperGurl05 ...Why. Why would you DO that?
Well if you have an andriod you can download an emulator for gba or gba color and play your games on that it's on the Google play store
Byron Okolo Well the feeling isn't the same but the games are :)
where can I find one of these for cheat
Amazon
eBay.
KieManEiy amazon has them $50!!!
zyberzyber I bought a AGS-001 for 38 with free shipping on eBay.
Sonia Howard I bought one on amazon.com for only $30
I love this handheld is my FIRST handheld game console and my first nintendo
This was posted on my 10th birthday, good console on a good day
Got it as a present from my uncle. Treasure it till now. I'm not rich, but getting this as a one of a kind present? My gaming dream achieved
This was my first game boy that i got as a present back when it was released, It still works really well and is in great condition after all it has been 10 years!, I don't think I could ever part with it.
Man I still have my gameboy advance sp blue brand new condition All these years and is still brand new good memories
my first game system was this, i still have mine and by looking at it i know i had the best childhood ever!!! :D
Every model of the SP had a backlit screen. They just gave it a brighter light in the 2005 revision.
I am so happy i toke a game boy advance sp on amazon and it arrives between january the 26th and february the 6th!
SO HAPPY!!!!!!!
By far the best portable system from Nintendo. It has a back-lit screen, rechargeable battery, it's the most practical and the most flexible having the Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Color, & Gameboy library at your disposal...
Nice review!!! Fixed camera, you show it all!
been wanting one of these for a while now! Finally found one at a thrift shop for $30!!! Yay!
Man so many memories with this thing. Sonic advanced 2 was my all time fav for this handheld.
*Saudades desse game antigo que marcou a nossa infância e adolescência dos anos 90. Tenho vontade de comprar um pretinho com fitas para jogar.*
Just had this model come in the mail with the same color. Other than the scratches from the previous owner who didn't care for it too week, its in good working condition and the screen is scratch free. Well worth it
This and the original Game Boy are the best. Only ones worth owning.
Nice!, I still got my Game-boy Color, from 1999, Works perfectly, almost no scratches at all!
Thank you so much for this review!
(; u ;)
A few months ago I brought a GBA SP, thinking that I finally hit jackpot (it was 15 bucks. + some games.) After that I watched this review and found out that the model I brought was the AGS-001.
I FOUND A AGS-101 WITH A SHITLOAD OF GAMES FOR TEN BUCKS.
without this review I wouldn't have 2 GBA SP's lying around in my room.
Wow this thing brings back memories I had myne in gold nice review:D
Since wen did u hve 1 of them
Shoaib Hussain I had one ages ago a birthday present from my auntie it was so cool :D
Cool i had one aswell ;)
Jus remembered u did hve 1 u brought it to my yard 1 time
Shoaib Hussain probably did lol
I used to have a Game Boy Advance SP a long time ago. I love that handheld game system back then.
i used to have the exact Gameboy advance xp when I was 11 years old. got it for Christmas that year... *sigh* good times
i got this for christmas long ago and i still play it
Thinking about getting one. The Music in the background sounds so 80's
I used to have a pink one when I was a little kid, but I gave it away. I miss it so much.
I'm actually saving up for a GBA SP (a pearl pink one) at this pawn shop in my home town. Mostly to play the original Pokémon games.
+Intercontinental Champion I finally got one (it's the pearl pink one so even better) and I also got two games as well, Tetris for Game Boy and Pokémon LeafGreen. I'm really glad after all this time. Sorry for the long reply.
Good stuff. I didn't know about the back lit screen on newer model and backwards compatibility.
I like watching your videos, you do a good job!!
My favorite gameboy by far.
I just got two of these yesterday for $30 for the pair without chargers... they both worked perfect.
i was lucky enough to be able to experience much of the final years of the GBA SP so i got to have one not too long ago, still have it now
Today I remembered that I had a Gameboy Advance SP in my closet. Until today I hadn't touched it in years and the one I own I must have owned for at least 10 years by this point. the gameboy WAS my childhood and that was the exact one I had :')
nintendo ds and gameboy advance sp are my first portable consoles
Isn't so weird to think that when this video was released the D.S was only 4 years old? Damn I feel old.
Got the AGS 101 model a few months back at a fair. They sold the gameboy and charger for $40 and I got Wario Land 4 for free. Best day ever.
***** Mine is kind of the same. The outside is a bit scratch but the screen is in great condition. Don't have a dead pixel on mine though.
I just snagged an AGS-101 for £20 with 3 games. Really excited to play Sonic Advance and Rayman again.
I really love my SP! Mine went through the wash and was dropped and even had its R button chewed by my dog, and it still works. I love it!
Still remains my favorite handled console ever. Shame I don't have a big library.
i did not know these turned the original gameboy games into color
thats sick
Thank god someone did a revew on it

The Best Handheld game console of all time!
i checked mine too and it said ags-101, and it's the backlit as well.
i got one just recently wanting to relive my early childhood and i managed to find a functioning blue ags-001 for only 2 bucks at a garage sale!
001ers unite!

I bought one from my friend for 5 bucks. I have the light blue model. It works perfectly but boy is the exterior beat up :D
I still have my SP, I'd always play it in high school!
Awesome portable, though it's a pity the silver paint scratched like hell.
I Just ordered a gameboy advance SP on amazon :D! It's graphite and it's model ags-101! Can't wait for it to come! I also ordered super mario bros. 3 for it :D!
The ultimate Gameboy.
Oh no, make sure to get insurance! ;)
I found my 3DS! It wasn't stolen! It still had 3 bars left!
Thank goodness! Where was it?!
Still a better love story then twilight
Ah, i remember the good ol' days when i have one of these...
Too bad that i lost it :(
Going to get one this weekend.
My first gaming console when I bought it back in 2008
Watching this while playing it... Mine still works as new
I love the Game Boy Advance Sp.
