- Attention truckers! Buckle up for this! The recent Francis Scott Key Bridge Accident near Baltimore is causing major disruptions - we're talking potential 2024 product shortages - and you're gonna feel it on the road. This video breaks down how the bridge closure will impact your business and what you can expect in the coming weeks.
Disrupted Routes & Delays: Expect major rerouting around the Baltimore area, leading to longer trips and delays. Be prepared to adjust your schedules and plan for extra downtime.
Rising Fuel Costs: You're likely seeing this already, but fuel prices are expected to climb even higher due to the disruption. Buckle up for tighter margins.
Potential Cargo Shortages: The bridge closure is causing shortages of essential goods like sugar, aluminum, and cleaning supplies. This means less freight to haul in the coming months.
Port Chaos on the West Coast: Get ready for a surge in activity at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach as they handle rerouted shipments. Expect congestion and potential delays there as well.
Products Affected: We'll discuss the specific categories most likely to be impacted, including:
Sugar and sugary products (baked goods, candy, etc.)
Cleaning agents (due to caustic soda shortage)
Soaps and detergents
Aluminum products (cans, foil, etc.)
Textiles
Various food items (processed foods, beverages)
Paper products
Biofuels
Essential ingredients like citric acid (found in food, beverages, medications, cosmetics, cleaning products) and amino acids (used in food, animal feed, supplements, medications, cosmetics)
Contributing Factors: We'll explore the domino effect of the bridge closure, including:
Rising corn prices (impacting citric acid and other food production)
Increased fuel costs (diesel and gasoline)
Rerouting of shipments through other ports (causing delays and higher shipping costs)
Potential Impact: We'll address the concerns surrounding shortages and offer insights on how long they might last. Be prepared for potential disruptions that could last up to a year.
Looking Ahead: We'll discuss the expected increase in activity at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach as they handle rerouted shipments.

All these proces going up and rates for shipping but we dont see it in trucking i hope they know this cant keep going like this
Oh I think they know. It will come down to the leanest operators. Only they and the biggest companies who are self-insured and have fuel storage, will be able to run profitably. Unless something changes pronto!
AFT helped me get $4350 this week @ $2.43 per mile. Thanks to Andy, an amazing partner. And special thanks to V, who has his pulse on the market conditions each week. Thank you so much for the updates!
You got it Tex and thank you for being awesome! Andy loves working with you and all of management is asking for more people like you....but you guys are pretty rare! 😋
These rates and feul is robbery
We keep pushing and pushing for higher and higher rates but there is only so much anyone can do when you consider the high fuel cost and other operating expenses.
@@AFTDispatch I got out of it? Someone is trying to get the driver out the seat.
Philadelphia Port is right next door to Baltimore. They build and repair ships there. Also ship storage too. So little bit of crying to much wolf to raise prices again is ridiculous.
Yes, someone else also mentioned that this is yet another reason to price gouge the consumer. Totally possible.
Smokin numbers
Thank you very much. In fact it ended up even better for Milagres as his last run was cancelled after I filmed the video but his dispatcher managed to get an even better deal at a higher rate. He ended up going to MS instead of IL, which isn't as good of course but at least he didn't sit and actually ended up with an even healthier rate and gross. I'm sure his dispatcher will get him out of MS next week at a great rate as well. Thanks for stopping by!
car imports will be #1 hurt
Yes sir. Auto and auto parts for sure.
Propaganda....
I feel like April 8 is purposely being built up with a lot of fear and your mentioned propaganda in order to achieve a national-level stress response.
