- Slammer III - awarded BEST SALTWATER REEL - ICAST New Product Showcase 2016.
Built for heavy duty fishing from either boat or shore, and trusted by charter captains all over the world.
The Slammer III reels feature our new IPX6 Sealed System which keeps water out of the gear box and drag system in heavy spray and sea conditions. We’re also using our updated Slammer Drag System which now utilizes our proprietary Dura-Drag material. With the computer-controlled CNC gear technology system, the precision brass main, pinion and oscillation gears are individually machined for exact tolerances to provide the smoothest operation.
Eight models of the Slammer III will be available, ranging in size from 3500 to 10500 models. Gear ratios range from 6.2:1 with 37” of line retrieve on the smaller reels to 4.2:1 with 43” of line retrieve on the largest. Maximum drags start at 30lbs in the smaller models and run to 60lbs on the largest. The oversized reel handle grip gives the angler added control during the fight.
The 3500 Slammer III is the smallest of the family weighing 13.9oz while the 10500 weighs 43.1oz.
• CNC Gear technology.
• Full metal body, sideplate and rotor.
• IPX6 Sealed body and spool design.
• Sealed Slammer Drag System with Dura-Drag.
• 6+1 corrosion resistant stainless steel bearings keep the reel smooth.
• Superline Spool band eliminates the need for backing.
• Line Capacity Rings let the angler know just how much line is on the reel at any time.
MSRP for the Slammer III spinning reels is $249.95 to $349.95; starts shipping this October.
I have a 4500, 6500, 8500 and 8500HS. Great reels and that drag, WOW! The 4500 is all I need to handle snook. And the 8500 manhandles Tarpon! Thanks Penn! You knocked it out of the park with the Slammer III! Penn has really stepped their game up over the last few years. Especially their spinning reel line. Thanks Penn! And appreciate you extending the spinning reel line Mr. Mike Rice! And if you're looking for a new pro staff member, I'm here and you won't be disappointed. I have a total of 27 Penn reels. Clash and Clash II, Spinfishers, Slammer III's, Fathoms and Squallvsw's. Squalls and Fathoms for my trolling spread and bottom fishing offshore. And my larger size Slammer III's for offshore fishing too....
Damn bro I love penn but holy shit u really love it
@@jacksonvilleyakin9435 haha too funny! I just recently changed my Squalls to the new International VSX series with six 16's and two 30's for my trolling spread. They are amazing reels! Something like 40-60lbs of drag!
If you're ever in the Merritt Island area, give me a about and we'll do some offshore fishing.
Dusky 278 with twin Suzuki 300's.
Dang bro nice I got a penn slammer recently and It seems like you know what your doing and I just got a 5500 slammer and was wanting to know if you could recommend any good rods for it and nice tarpon in your profile pic man
Florida fishing channel I have a 5500 on a penn carnage II jigging rod. It is the perfect match for the reel.
My first Penn was a slammer. I may have to look into this Benn with Penn since I was 8 years old. Products are still the best I ever had!
Absolutely great reels! From snook fishing inshore to casting weed beds for mahi offshore. Drags are unbelievably strong. Penn knocked it out of the ballpark with the Slammer III.
After rebuilding my Conquer 4000 a few times and purchasing a Torque 5 bailess im hooked on gear materials now and just purchased a Slammer3 3500 as my new flounder reel keep up the good work Penn.
Eva handle option is great. Glad that is included.
Wow excelente me apasionan los penn son caballos de batalla. Los estaré esperando para probarlos muy bien.
Really like both the rod and the reel ur2.pl/2314 but I have to be honest and mention that I paired them on different rigs. Haven't hooked a huge one yet; no doubt these pieces could handle it. Separate or as the combo. This set up will make the next trip to some saltwater with me as well.
Fish On Slammer Reels!!
Great reel finally exchangeable handles👍🏽Deeply their exit in France
I’m guessing that’s a carnage rod? What model carnage are you using in this video with the 10500?
@PENNfishing The Penn Slammer III (8500) paired with the Penn Rampage Jigging rod is a PERFECT halibut setup! Check out this Barn Door halibut from Juneau, Alaska! ruclips.net/video/EW1s7Uiy0fk/видео.html
Interesting, with brass gears more seals and an improved drag system and a better handle/knob i'll have to try one of these! WTG Penn.....
Thank you for telling people that you cant reel under water it is only water resistant. Great reel
You guys should put more line capacity on the 9500 and 10500 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
catching tarpon redfish trout and snook on my 3500 penn slammer what a reel just has me speechless
just bought the 5500 series... haven't had a chance to wet a line!!!!

I’m sorry but you sound really sad good sir
Hi, was hoping if Penn can make Penn Fathom ll Level Wind in 2 speed?
I fish almost exclusively with Penn reels and see the new Slammer will be unveiled at ICast. Is it possible if you can tell how many new reels Penn is planning to put out during the Icast including any older models that will be released with new features? Just would like to know how many
I bought the slammer 3 4500 series i do alot of kayak fishing i was thinking a 6'6" or a 7 ft rod what u think are the best choices for rods ???
What penn rod is that with the 10500?
Thanks
Hi, do you sell spare spools? So I can have one spool with braid other with mono. Cheers
We do offer spare parts, you can purchase from us by contacting our customer service team (800-892-5444 m-f 8am to 6pm), or you can shop scottsbt.com or tackledirect.com. Spare parts on the Slammer III have not arrived yet, but should be in stock a couple months after launch on November 7th.
salut es ce que quelqu un peut me donner le diamètre de l axe du 9500 et 10500 merci et quel sont les cannes que vous utilisé avec ?
This is great...lokks awesome...I have a Torque TRQS9, and a half dozen SSvs, and my wife preordered a Slammer 3 7500 for my birthday...looking for a recommendation for a matching rod...we fish along the Georgia coast from a boat inshore, near shore and offshore...was looking at using this for tarpon, cobia, and was wondering what rod you recommend to match with this...was thinking a Penn Carnage 2 7-8 footer...any thoughts?
Shawn, you can match reels to rods by matching the line pound test rating for both. The Slammer 7500 is rated for mono 15-30# so look for rods also rated 15-30. CARBWII1530S70 is a good choice for boat fishing.
+PENNfishing Thanks...they are fine looking, well built rods.
hs that wave at 1:58 behind them
NAJLEPSZA ALTERNATYWA DLA SHIMANO !!!!! POSIADAM PENN CLASH 5000 MA BARDZO WOLNA OSCYLACJĘ I BARDZO DOBRZE UKŁADA PLECIONKĘ .MOIM ZDANIEM NAJLEPSZE KRĘCIOŁKI NA ŚWIECIE.
I am very interested in getting a Slammer 3 and carnage 2 rod combo. I mostly do surf shark fishing. We have to cast quite far at some spots. I want to know if the 12 foot carnage 2 rod will do the job?
Yes, it will. And if you ever decide you need casting lessons we recommend you look up Ron Arra.
I own the 3500 version. Watching the schematics I guess 4500 share the same body size.
Does the spool fit from one to another pen model?
I also own a Spinfisher V but I guess the spool couldn't fit on my Slammer III
Please let me know. Thanks !!
Hey, Salvador. All Penn spools do not fit one another. I am not able to confirm that a Slammer III spool will fit your Spinfisher V without size info. Please contact our Service Experience Coordinators at 800-892-5444 for more details!
So where does this leave the Torque spinners? Hope they won't be discontinued as I imagine they're superior to this and because I have 3 of them.
dam dude you have a lot of money, but for tuna offshore or tarpon and big inshore species?
+Stefano Baschiera I saved for like a year to buy them but yea I do some Tarpon fishing but mostly offshore for sailfish wahoo and tuna. I fish hard and really hate when stuff breaks down quickly so I saved for the very best I could afford and it has been a very good experience. Hooked a blue marlin on a size 9 and lost it after a half hour because the leader was only 50lb. Reel was fine. have also caught lots of big sharks and some Goliath grouper.
+Stefano Baschiera Only problem I ever had associated with it I accidentally set the drag so high one time when jigging my favorite jigging rod exploded basically.
+RikkiTikkiTavi what rod was it probably not a beast master ?
Was a custom made Chaos rod. Was unfortunately from a time when the shop had changed hands and some extremely sub-par rods were made. They did give me a brand new one though.
What's the reason for putting an auto bail trip on the 5500 and smaller sizes, but a manual on the 6500 and up? I don't want an automatic bail on any size and especially on a 4500 or 5500 that I will be using to throw expensive plugs. Also is there a recommended way to remove the auto bail trip from my Slammer 5500? Thanks.
Also, I think its pretty common knowlage that its not good to store any reel with the drag cinched down. Yet both my Slammer 5500 and 7500 came out of the box with the drag locked as tight as it will go. Why is that?
Hey, Ian. The reason on the 5500 on down is because of lighter
line and premature bail flip is not common on the smaller reels. You can remove
part number 28 then you would have your manual bail. The spool may be tight
because of the seals.
I am going to get the 8500 for live baiting for big amberjacks cousins (called Kingfish down in NZ here). Catching sharks and bit of surf casting off rocks. What i would love to know is should I get the new red HSA high speed version? I prefer the gold of normal one, but see the red one has a much higher retrieval rate of 50 inches per turn vs 42. The higher speed model has ratio of 5.3:1 vs 4.7:1. would this HS version have much less pulling power (torque) for the big kings & sharks? obviously it would be better for surf casting as get bait back heaps faster. worried about lack of grunt compared. Like i have a 6:1 trout reel and it struggles reeling in big lures vs my 4.7:1 reel that doesn't even notice bigger lures. Any thoughts? reckon the normal one that looks better will do? also can I get the HSA heavier jig knob bought separately do you know? thank you , love you're videos, watched 'em all. Dave down under
Hi, David. Both reels have a 50lb max drag. The Slammer III regular speed should be fine for the type of fishing you want to do. Unfortunately, the heavier jig knob is just sold with the HS reel.
Is the Penn Slammer 4500 model suitable for jigs 60 to 120 gramms?
the reel can handle it, but it is more a function of the rod you use than it is the reel.
I have a couple battle 2 6000 is I the size the same? what size would match?
Spool sizes are just about the same by size across the different series', but they are not exactly the same. Slammer sizes are 5500, 6500, etc. You can compare specs for both reels at pennfishing.com
hi!
i'de like to get a slammer III in 10500 size for white sturgeon on the Fraser river.do u think it can manage those dinos, and please help me to find the right rod for it.i'm thinking about a 8-9 ft rod to put on!
Hi, Joe! We like the Carnage II Surf Spinning Rod to pair with the Slammer III. Learn more here. bit.ly/2orGznM
hi i have the slammer 3 4500 can i use a 9ft carnage 2 surf if so is the medium 15-30lb or medium light 8-20lb recommended
Hi Sarah! The CARSFII1530S90 will work.
will it have a bait feeder option
No Live-Liner option in this series.
No plans for a live liner model at the moment. Check out the SSV for live liners.
What rods are you pairing with these reels? specs? available? when? price points etc. Thanks!
Check out the Carnage II rods, available now. www.pennfishing.com/penn/?q=carnage%20ii
I did. It appears the longest rod is a 7' in a 4k class. Does not appear to have a lure weight rating I could find.
We have lure ratings on jigging and surf rods. We don't do Slammers in 4000 but we do offer it in 3500 and 4500 sizes. 4500 is rated for 8-12# mono / 15-30# braid, there are some 7' and 7'6" inshore rods, or you can look at surf rods for 9' to 12' Lure ratings are a little deeper in the specs but just a click away.
Hello, i have to say something, im enegener and brass is soft metal , howcome it dosent worn out?? Especialy where gears are! Just curious
The gears are not just pure brass, but are made of a proprietary alloy that PENN has used for many years in its top of the line spinning reels. Some old PENN "Greenie" spinning reels made with the same gear material are still running strong after over 40 years.
Thanks mate :)
The slammer 3 4500 it is hard to crank I don’t have a fish on and it’s hard to crank how would I make it smoother
Hi, there. Give one of our reel technicians a call. They'd be happy to help you at (800) 892-5444.
I have a Penn Rampage 7ft medium-heavy will it handle the 8500 Slammer
Hi, Jon. It can handle the 8500 Slammer, but I suggest using the 7500 Slammer because the line specs match more closely to the 7’ MH Rampage rod.
I heard the the slammer 3 is similar to the ssv. What are the chances that the bailless rotor from the ssv 6500 will fit on the slammer 6500?
Zip. Sorry to let you down Josh.
No worries! Just figured I'd ask
price point?
$249-$349 depending on size.
$250 to $350 depending on size.
What rod did you have on the 10500 slammer?
I've been asking that same question. If you ever figure out what boat rod pairs best with this beast, PLEASE let me know. Thx.
do you recommend attaching braid directly to this spool or using mono first?
Spool is "braid ready", so no backing needed.
Hi, Nick. You need a mono backing.
What the rod sir?
how size penn slammer for popping...??
Take a look at the 7500!
when i can buy the slammerlll
Early November, they'll start shipping to retail in October.
What is the best string for fishing rods for string/big fish
The various different models in this series will handle everything from 4-pound monofilament on the 3500 size, up to 80-pound braid on the 10500 size.
We like SpiderWire braid, Ultracast InvisiBraid or the Blue Camo line.
+PENNfishing ok awsome
what is a good pole to go with squall 40ld
Buu, you can match reels to rods by matching the pound test rating of the line recommendation. Squall 40LD is rated for 25 to 40# mono. We sell the 40LD as a combo and offer several rods with a line rating of 20 to 40 or 30 to 50. Check out Carnage II, or maybe the Ally series.
PENNfishing thanks for the response !!! my friend has a carnage rod. dont think it even got any salt on it yet haha
What rod is best for a slammer 10500
You can match rods to reels by matching the pound test of the line rating on each. Slammer 10500 is rated for 30-50# mono so look for a rod that calls for 30-50# line as well. Check out the Carnage II series. (Rod codes speak to the model first, then the pound test range, reel type (S or C) and finally the rod length.) www.pennfishing.com/penn/?q=carnage+ii
Mike, i ordered a 4500 slammer 3. I was wondering if you had a recommendation to what rod rod i would pair this reel up with.
thanks
-Chuck
Hi Chuck, generally speaking you can match rods to reels by matching the pound test rating of the line recommended for each. 4500 Slammers are rated for mono 8-12#. Beyond that it depends on how you're fishing and what species you're targeting. If you're doing some inshore fishing, check out the Battalion rods rated for 6-12#, model numbers BATIN612S66 or BATIN612S70 (also available with a split grip.) Our rod product codes are broken down like this: Name(in this case BATIN for Battalion Inshore)/line pound test rating (6-12)/Reel type - S for spinning or C for Conventional/Rod length - 6'6" or 7'.

Mike, i heard you discussing how the seals will eventually wear off. When this happens is there somewhere on your website that i could purchase new seals for the slammer 3 (4500).
Chuck, you can always order parts for PENN reels from the plant in Philly. Give our customer service team a call at 800-892-5444 M-F and they'll help you place the order.
thanks
Made in China very disappointed to find that out when I got this not to mention my drag is tight even on the lowest end not happy for a 240 dollar reel
Other than the classic PENN "Z" series, the lowest-priced USA-made spinning reels are well over $500, and the same approximate price threshold goes for "made in Japan" spin reels. True that the "Dura-Drag" material [same as used in International reels] is not made to function at very low settings, but is exemplary at higher settings.
What kind of rod would you recommend pairing to a 6500 slammer 3?
Hi Scott! The CARSFII1530S90 will work.
can the 10500 pull in a 450lb 9 foot Marlon?
Hey, Cofi. It can handle it, you just need to finesse it.
Ive pulled a 90 lbs sailfish with a 4500 using 17# mono on a pier in FL. I think a 10500 can handle a marlin.
You can see a write up and photos of the internals here: www.stripersonline.com/surftalk/topic/657189-penn-slammer-iii-pre-icast-sneak-peak/
what reel size will match Penn Battle Surf Rod 10f?
Riyad, you can match rods to reels by matching the pound test rating of the line recommendation for each.
PENNfishing are you tired of saying this yet? Lol
Aaron Garrett I was wondering the same thing! Lol
