chad haire Or you can rev you exhaust at some pretty girls and make they're shiver they're bones like no tomorrow mate. I bet you'll be craving over the overpriced Demon when it hits the car lot.
Colvin I had fun with manuals and for the less powerful cars manuals help as they didn’t have as much parasitic drive train loss. But something magical happened around 2015, earlier in foreign cars, automatic transmissions got lighter, got more “gears” and shift in milliseconds. Even when running in manual mode, shifts are faster. And that’s the future.
The manual hellcat is so much fun. I have one. You don’t have to shift in corners because the gears are so long. You could do that whole road in second.
Great review...thanks for posting. The Destroyer Grey is awesome. I've had three Billet Silver Challengers, and will definitely get the DG next year when my lease up. 5.7 R/T though...wish I could get a Hellcat. Beautiful car!
Whoever wants a hellcat challenger with a manual is crazy. Don't get me wrong I'll take it if somebody gave me one but have you heard that 8 speed transmission when you really get on it. Dude right here he just cruising. The shift points are crazy and it ain't no missing gears when racing.
The automatic is quicker and those who need to shift manually can do it with the paddles on the wheel. Manual tranny is fine--if you are driving a 3 cylinder Mitsubishi Mirage!!!
Most people can't drive sticks anymore. Ordering a performance car with an auto that is available with a stick is lame. This includes journalists who claim that auto is faster because they don't have the skills for the stick! Ha. Nevertheless I sure would love the chance to prove them wrong. oohhhh pulling paddles. Tuff
Anyone who thinks that a 707 horsepower supercharged V-8 producing massive amounts of torque at low RPM is going to give better performance with a 6 speed manual over an 8 speed automatic is living in Goober land. Further you do not understand what the paddles are for it seems--they are NOT for going in a straight line--they are for shifting in corners for the exact speed required in a turn....Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche have removed manuals on their top cars for a reason--because the automatics are quicker, faster, and perform better--PERIOD
O.M.J! Does this video ever remind me of my 'hill climbing' days of the late '60's I drove a Dodge Polara with 3 speed model 727 torqueflite trans., mated to a 318. The only 'computer' in that car then was my digital wrist watch. I'm thinking this Hellcat is a tad different than that! Thanks,..for the memories, Chad.
Why would someone pay 72k for a car that was 60k when it came out? They are not even hard to get anymore and now with the Demon coming out less people will want them. I'm also curious as to why you shut the camera off every time you came to a turn. Nice color though, much better than the orange
A $60K car goes to $72K with something called OPTIONS. Do you think the black hood, leather trim, and sunroof is free? The Demon will be less practical and a LOT more money.
chad haire options? so you paid 12k for something you could have done for 500. and the sunroof doesn't even belong in a car like that but if you paid more than a thousand for that than you're crazy. And leather seats can be done for about 1500. Still way short of the 12k extra. Not to mention there isn't that supply and demand problem anymore. As far as the Demon goes it's not worth the 90k but most people that have 72 to spend on a car can spend 90 and they will just to say they have the fastest.
RD. I suggest you get with the new prices. Base Hellcat is $65K. Add $1700 for gas tax, $3K for automatic gearbox, and $1700 for leather and 1K for optional wheels--- you are at $72K BEFORE the black paint hood, sunroof. And who said anyone paid sticker?
chad haire exactly my point. Why did the price go up? I've seen dealers selling at 55k to get rid of them because they were not selling. Wasn't interested enough to research what options. I know at least one had the auto trans
my wife that's why. She is a great and wonderful person but when it comes to this car she is unaware of it's awesomeness, say's I cant drive it at full power and would supposedly kill myself . LOL "one of these day's Alice TOO THE MOON"
I would like to explain something: Dodge thought about how much people complain about automatics. So they came up with the solution. In sport mode, when the car shifts, it shifts harder, and goes a lot faster. Especially when using the T-bar. The Hellcat's 0-60 is several milliseconds faster than the manual, and the fuel economy doesn't FUCKING matter! It's a HELLCAT! NOT A PRIUS! Also, I'd like to point out something about the manual vs. automatic feud. Think about what you can do with BOTH hands free while driving. Hellcat perspective from a Hellcat owner.
2:30 what are you talking about you? Just put her in neutral and coast through the corner? Where is the problem? Have you ever driven a manual transmission car? Also save more fuel in a automatic? Are you daft. It's physically impossible to try and save fuel in a automatic unless you use your tip tronic to manage early/late shifting. I think you need to do your homework a little more before claiming things you don't know.
Automatic hellcats only come with a 2.62 axle ratio. Manuals only come with the 3.70 axle ratio. The only reason it is still on the window sticker is because its listed under standard equipment, and hellcat challengers come with the manual standard with the automatic optional. I don"t know why dodge does not remove it from the sicker when you select the automatic. I think all it does is confuse people. Bad ass car though!
Chrysler say no the 2.6 is an option that you have to pay extra for and it can come with the 3.70 in the automatic. Dealers have been complaining about getting these 2.6 cars and the official response given to me was that if the dealers were stupid enough to order the 2.6 instead of the 3.7 that was their fault. The 0-60 times tell a lot--3.4 seconds for the automatic and 3.8 for the 6 speed is common---this car was nowhere near 3.4--so all I can say is what the factory rep told me and he has been there for 25 years. The only way is to go to the dealer and see what the order sheet says at this point.....
As for the eco mode, it stays enabled between restarts (or disabled if you turn it off) no other drive mode will stay enabled between restarts unfortunately (i.e. Track or sport)
Straight narrator voice 😂 sounds like you telling a movie from back in the olden days 🐎 Nice hellcat. I'm thinking about getting the 392 Scat Pack Challenger
I've been thinking about getting a Hellcat but not to sure yet. The color on yours is sweet. Been reading a lot of these comments talking down on the automatic but really they just don't have any idea. It's some macho bullshit that's been brainwashed into these kids heads to think manual is just better. Great video!
Chad you are 100% correct about the front spoiler. My Hellcat sits lower in the front than my 2016 SRT. They come from the factory with yellow protectors on each side of the spoiler so do not throw them away as they are put on from the factory.
jesus chrysler I could tell you were a dodge guy ... Always knew you were a little weird. Let me know how much the mechanics bill you to fix it! Good video chad. My dad recently bought a Chevrolet SS and he's enjoying it very much. Nothing wrong with treating yourself to a sweet car.
HEY ... I LIKE THAT .... ABOUT.. THIS IS GOOD FOR A MID LIFE CRISIS ...THEN... I THINK I NEED SOME HEMI IN MY LIFE ... BESIDE TO HAVE A FUNNY BIG TIITED WOMAN .. .. BIG .. THINK BIG
I'd get a Trackhawk before a Demon. I just can't justify spending over 80k on a car. Will likely get a Hellcat charger and grab a used 2014+ Jeep SRT 8 to DD, to replace my current one.
To be honest i forgot--i only keep a car for no more than a week...But if I remember TRACK removes ALL traction control, has best shift points in the tranny, and was NOT to be driven on the street.
Automatics suck? Yeah--that is why Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, Jaguar, Maserati.....all the high end cars use them.......the only automatic that sucks is that semi-auto piece of crap SCAR you have in that photo...LOL
There are a couple of reasons that Lambo, Ferrari, etc are going to autos, 1 is fuel economy and 2nd reason is a lot of people these days can't drive a stick, can't grab the concept of how it works, so they only drive an auto. But it's all opinion which you like better, do you want to drive or be driven. Huntington Beach Dodge, I bought my 1999 Dakota R/T there.
No the main reason the big buck car makers switch to automatics is because they are quicker then a manual when paired with a powerful turbo engine.....manuals only work better in small cars with tiny 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder engines.
chad haire Don't push Sport, unless you want Sport Settings.. You don't have to be in Sport mode to have the 700 HP.. Just push the Eco button that is currently illuminated Green and Eco will turn off and stay off till you push it again..
hey Chad I have the same car paint and hood as yours but like they. mentioned you have the option to start the car in eco or sport in default mode if you leave the eco button turned on it'll keep it defaulted each time you turn the car on unless you click it off then it won't start with it. like your video you ain't messing around. 👌🤣
On this car it automatically goes into ECO mode when started, and the only way you can get it to 700 hp is manually put it in sport mode. When you turn the car off and then on again it starts in ECO again. It will NOT start in Sport mode. I tried. This is a 2017 car
I can't live anywhere Nancy Pelosi & that dippy bitch Maxine Waters are allowed to run the Government.....that includes all of CA. When the big earthquake comes and CA falls into the ocean I will go to Nevada and buy some beachfront property....and a Dodge Demon...
chad haire but if you do find one, my suggestion to yu is to make sure yu haven't eaten anything in the previous 2 hrs before you drive it like it was built to be driven
chad haire I'm not confused.. I own 2 Hellcats and I'm telling you, push the Eco Button that is currently illuminated Green.. In doing so that turns off Eco Mode, and the Ecu will remember that setting..
as a Hellcat owner myself. Just adjust your default setup however youd like. Thats what i did. My car basically starts up in sport mode, i just left my suspension on street is all. Nice car anyways.
Hey Chad. Regarding the 3.70 axle ratio. I bought a 2017 6spd and I don't see it on sticker. That said, I don't see 2.62 anywhere, nor do I see it reflected on sticker cost. Everything I've read is 2.62 for the autos and 3.7 on manuals and this is due to the different gear ratios in each transmission. Btw I also can't find a way to build this car online by adding the 2.62s. That isn't a build option. In addition, there are plenty of articles that talk about the A8 being geared shorter overall compared to the manual plus the A8 shifts fast as hell, hence the better 0-60s. Also if you look at your sticker, bc I've looked at like 50 hellcat stickers online, 3.7 never comes up on stickers that have automatic trans, but when they do, under your options it says 2.62 rear axle which replaces the standard equip Pretty easy math with this calculator. spicerparts.com/calculators/transmission-ratio-rpm-calculator Hellcat tire is 28.7". Your automatic 2nd gear is 3.14. Plug in ring and pinion gear at 2.62 and at 3000 rpms your auto should be at 31mph in 2nd. If you had 3.70 you'd be at 22mph. Run the test. Again, my sticker doesn't say 3.7. But when I do the math, if I had 2.62 with manual box I'd be going 86mph at 6k rpm in 1st gear. Which isn't happening.
A. I don't know why you would want a 2.62 with manual which would make it slower. B. The 2.62 is an extra cost option on the automatic but I have yet to find an automatic without it. Factory rep told me you can order the auto without the tall 2.62 rear but then why can't I find one without it? C. i think the only way to tell would be to to to the dealer and look at the order form and see if you can delete the 2.62 for the 3.7. I have not done that--yet. That is all I know at the moment...
chad haire Chad, what I'm saying is, I'm 99.999 positive your car has 2.62 if it is an auto. That's a fact. Go back to my comment above where I did the math. If your speed is 31mph in 2nd gear at 3000 then you have 2.62s. If it is 22mph. Then you have 3.7s. Write back and let me know
I already know it is the 2.62--it says on the price sheet. That was not the issue. The issue that keeps coming up is how do you order a Hellcat automatic without one......
I love how he says that it corners so good when he is probably about to barrel roll it take an actual sports car like a ford GT or aventador or viper or gt350 and I'll assure you you'll never want to go back to that gay automatic piece of shit ever again
chad haire sure it will blow it of the road in straight line look at the stats for on the track listen I like the hell cat but it's not fun all the time when you are in straight line I am a kid but my dad does own a gt350 and I do consider those sports cars that it can corner with and I think it's good that you got your dream car I'm not trying to start a war between me and you I just may have given my opinion in the wrong way I also know that the lambos and Ferraris are auto I just refer to paddle as Manuel with no clutch and this is what I know about the Shelby trust me I didn't google this my dad told me most of it and some videos it is a 5.2 litre v8 with 526 hp revs to 8200rpm with flat plane crank that Ferrari invented naturally aspirated there are 3 kinds of packages track tech which we have and the R 75,000$ for track or tech and like 140,000$ for the R I do love cars tho sorry
Shimon La Hée no manual is better for speed cuz in auto it Doesn't rev high enough and doesn't have enough power so it's slower and paddle shift is manual
Wait, stop... The HELLCAT does not corner as good as a BMW M series. It doesn't even corner as good as an SRT 392. This car weighs over 2 tons and is very front heavy. And I say that as a fellow Challenger owner who has flogged a Hellcat through the mountains. And no, not everybody buys a manual to make something a 'thrash toy'; some people just actually enjoy the mechanical feel and are skilled with using a manual transmission...The credibility of this review leaves a lot to be desired. Kind of a waste.
TROY BOY: A, You suggest people get the automatic because they can't drive a stick. Doesn't matter how good you are with the manual, the automatic will kick your ass. Putting the auto-box in a high-torque engine like this is retarded. B. Don't give a crap how heavy a car is--it doesn't affect cornering ability at all--But I test drive about 100 cars per year--WTF do i know right?
I also mentioned convenience. I too own an auto vehicle (truck) and it's great for distracted, disconnected driving (food, phone, traffic, etc.). Everyone is different but for me, a stick is more fun in this kind of vehicle. It's weird you don't notice the front end weight on the Hellcat, it's definitely pushing hard into corners, but it's not something everybody will notice or care about. Specifically, my friend who is an auto jurno and Hellcat owner doesn't seem to mind either. Go figure. If you want a well balanced car I'd vote for the SRT 392, if you want a well balanced car with Hellcat power, an Audi R8. Weight transfer is a 'thing', too much weight away from COM will result is sub optimal chassis behavior. We see this stuff in the superbike world all the time (a heavier bike with more centralized mass will outperform a lighter bike with poor weight distribution). 140 extra pounds on top of the engine is an issue. But, YMMV...
I guess Chad hates manuals. To me manuals are fun and you can feel the power with them.
chad haire Or you can rev you exhaust at some pretty girls and make they're shiver they're bones like no tomorrow mate. I bet you'll be craving over the overpriced Demon when it hits the car lot.

Yea, same thing with a Manuel lawn mower, you can really feel the grass being cut, but unfortunately technology improves 🤷♂️
CJ drive an old Ford F150 with gas guzzler 302 engine and manual tranny....poor guy...
the Grey is sick dude
lol 500 in ECO mode. Gotta love an eco friendly machine like that. Congratulations on your ride!

I guess I disagree about the manual. I love banging the gears
2.62 rear diff ratio is not a problem or liability with the automatic. Plenty of low end oomph! 😄
Great review...thanks for posting. The Destroyer Grey is awesome. I've had three Billet Silver Challengers, and will definitely get the DG next year when my lease up. 5.7 R/T though...wish I could get a Hellcat. Beautiful car!
Get the Hellcat--you only live once
Chad, you are my new hero. Hellcat owner and has the same political views as me. I'll be your first sub.
then you need to watch the Durango SRT video I did

You had to put everything in race not sport and try recording in 60fps so we can fully appreciate the speed Thanks for the video

well there's plenty of ppl that go 180 mph
love the vid, but the end made me sad when you were talking about trump and gas prices... R.I.P.
sadder when it hits $6 after the election
I built a 2021 and waiting on the order. I just double checked and when I built it there was no optional Axle ratio.
you are correct...Dodge lied to me...
What wheels are on this car? Great video! Thanks
what you see in the video is what you get--car is long gone
Been watching you for a while, congrats on getting yourself a nice new car. Good choice :)
check out the Raptor video
No wonder you don’t want a manual shift. Your ride along is boring. Doubt you could shift one.
I could shift it up your ass kid
I think you just changed my mind, new ZL1 or Hellcat......
get a rich widow, take her money, and buy both! I am driving a Lexus LC500--will have the video done in 4 weeks...

These wheels or the multi-spokes? I’m liking these better!

Find me a Demon..
chad haire Ebay
70g's for 700 hp, sounds reasonable
Better than spending $100,000 for a EU car with less HP.
Meanwhile in Singapore $100,000 gets you a vios
Probably around USD70k*

(interrupts his sentence talking about doing burnouts to yell at the guy on the bike who is speeding) LOL
I have ZL1 conv now, maybe I'll keep it and get the Hell cat too
8:00 maybe because its on "Default" that it resets on start up? Maybe set it to custom
Straight narrator voice 😂 sounds like you telling a movie from back in the olden days 🐎
Nice hellcat. I'm thinking about getting the 392 Scat Pack Challenger
then see my scatpack videos and SRT videos--they are on you tube
Do you still have this car?
I get a new car every week--this was gone 100 cars ago
Chad nice video!! I noticed my 2016 SRT Challenger sat higher in the front. So I have to be very careful with my 2017 Hellcat when parking by a curb.
yes
Enjoyed the video and the humour.
I would prefer a manual ... more skill needed; much more fun, at least it was in the Viper. For PosTERity, sir! :)
The manual is slower, uses more gas, and a pain to operate....try using that clunky manual in heavy Los Angles traffic...no thanks
I've been thinking about getting a Hellcat but not to sure yet. The color on yours is sweet. Nice car, nice drive drive. Good to see you don't do burnout, neither do I. I don't even rev my car when it's standing still.
no burnout? You need to see my other SRT Hellcat video
Ah the old manual vs auto argument. I would never own a Mustang or a Vette with a auto but with the big Dodge you may be on point.
big block supercharged engines put out massive amounts of torque......a manual slows them down....
Great video!!!!!
4 more hellcats on this channel to watch.....look them up
At 4:27 hahaha Please start with Robert De niro!!!!!! At 7:21 And please Chad, put the chains on before you hit Rodeo Dr... NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!
I would get Hillary first..then deniro...
Just don't ding up the Hellcat Chad-- they are not worth it!!! hahaha
Azusa canyon ??
dont know I dont live in LA
Hey there, i am in so cal HB area, with hellcat, where is this road your on??
One of the forest roads north of LA..I don't remember the name though..

Good video chad. My dad recently bought a Chevrolet SS and he's enjoying it very much. Nothing wrong with treating yourself to a sweet car.
I am not a Dodge guy--just a Hellcat guy
I wouldn't even mind an RT Challenger .... But who can hate any muscle car that has as much balls as a Hellcat?

Damn, that car is a beaut! Do you still have it?
no I get a different car every week..see my channel..329 cars to see.
I love the BS grey. e
This is a great video. Plan to go from my Wk1 Jeep srt 8 to a charger hellcat.
Get a Demon so i can do a video on it

Automatics suck? Yeah--that is why Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, Jaguar, Maserati.....all the high end cars use them.......the only automatic that sucks is that semi-auto piece of crap SCAR you have in that photo...LOL
Wouldn't one one
There are a couple of reasons that Lambo, Ferrari, etc are going to autos, 1 is fuel economy and 2nd reason is a lot of people these days can't drive a stick, can't grab the concept of how it works, so they only drive an auto. But it's all opinion which you like better, do you want to drive or be driven. Huntington Beach Dodge, I bought my 1999 Dakota R/T there.
No the main reason the big buck car makers switch to automatics is because they are quicker then a manual when paired with a powerful turbo engine.....manuals only work better in small cars with tiny 3 cylinder or 4 cylinder engines.
it's shifts in milliseconds
That will give you the 700 every time, without having to go into sport mode..
Not it doesn't---every time this 2017 car is started it starts in the low hp ECO mode and has to be reset to SPORT by hand.
chad haire Don't push Sport, unless you want Sport Settings.. You don't have to be in Sport mode to have the 700 HP.. Just push the Eco button that is currently illuminated Green and Eco will turn off and stay off till you push it again..
Not on the 2017 cars--they start in ECO when you turn the ignition and that gives you 500 hp not 700.
hey Chad I have the same car paint and hood as yours but like they. mentioned you have the option to start the car in eco or sport in default mode if you leave the eco button turned on it'll keep it defaulted each time you turn the car on unless you click it off then it won't start with it. like your video you ain't messing around. 👌🤣
On this car it automatically goes into ECO mode when started, and the only way you can get it to 700 hp is manually put it in sport mode. When you turn the car off and then on again it starts in ECO again. It will NOT start in Sport mode. I tried. This is a 2017 car
LOL.....good idea. Do you live in HB?
There are 893 dictionary definitions of HB---I dont know what that is unless you live by Huntington Beach where the hookers hang out
Huntington beach, CA
I can't live anywhere Nancy Pelosi & that dippy bitch Maxine Waters are allowed to run the Government.....that includes all of CA. When the big earthquake comes and CA falls into the ocean I will go to Nevada and buy some beachfront property....and a Dodge Demon...
Hwy 330?
dont remember--I only keep cars for less than a week..
Now about the demon......😉😁
I wish
chad haire but if you do find one, my suggestion to yu is to make sure yu haven't eaten anything in the previous 2 hrs before you drive it like it was built to be driven
Just push the Eco button and it will be turned off after every start up
I think you are confused--pushing the ECO button puts it in ECO and less power. This is NOT what we want
chad haire I'm not confused.. I own 2 Hellcats and I'm telling you, push the Eco Button that is currently illuminated Green.. In doing so that turns off Eco Mode, and the Ecu will remember that setting..
are your Hellcats 2017?
chad haire 1 2017 and 1 2016
as a Hellcat owner myself. Just adjust your default setup however youd like. Thats what i did. My car basically starts up in sport mode, i just left my suspension on street is all. Nice car anyways.
3:12 Spoiler??????
front and rear were called spoilers in the day...now they are called air dams in the front and spoiler in the rear I guess
chad haire My bad, we call em front splitter. From where I was born atleast 😂
location of video? California?
unfortunately I had to go to the Peoples Republic of Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi for this video....couldn't wait to leave....
sorry I'm italian and I don't understand your answer
Then how do you know what California looks like?
becouse I saw the videos of Jay Leno's Garage and they look similar
Manual is faster than automatic
Christian Cruz only in your dreams
Shimon La Hée it is
The automatic is quicker--far quicker.
Manual can beat it off the start
CRUZ: Then why don't you do a video of both hellcats and show us--I will be waiting
This editing kills me 😂😂
then you would rather have a 30 minute video?
chad haire if you keep making amazing quality like this keep it coming 👌🏾. Going through your other videos now
chad haire also do you plan on doing a review on the new Dodge challengers hellcats or any other SRT’s?
Did all those Dodge cars last year..get on my main page.
chad haire do you have a link to your main page?
Also if you look at your sticker, bc I've looked at like 50 hellcat stickers online, 3.7 never comes up on stickers that have automatic trans, but when they do, under your options it says 2.62 rear axle which replaces the standard equip
Pretty easy math with this calculator. spicerparts.com/calculators/transmission-ratio-rpm-calculator Hellcat tire is 28.7".
The issue that keeps coming up is how do you order a Hellcat automatic without one......
chad haire you can't. You wouldn't want the 3.7s anyway. I see people putting 3.09s in the auto trans though.
Aidan Bradt automatic is the only choice for speed
Shimon La Hée no manual is better for speed cuz in auto it
Doesn't rev high enough and doesn't have enough power so it's slower and paddle shift is manual
Is this what you do all day long? Just talk out of your ass?
This dude acts like no one knows about the features....
and many do not so what is your point?
chad haire very doubtful pal. Nice try tho. Don't get your panties in a bunch
TROY BOY:
A, You suggest people get the automatic because they can't drive a stick.
It all about tire pressure settings
