You have to read the Mortal Instruments to understand how Jem gets cured! It’s a bit of a surprise, but when the series was coming out you got the last few TMI books coming out alongside TID and so the storylines kinda converged. And you’re right they ARE throuple, they just didn’t know that way back in 1878 so in the newer books and the short stories that have been put out, you get modern era Jem and Tessa acknowledging that the three of them are kinda of all in love together and that Will is their missing third the way that Jem was missing (as a Silent Brother) when Will was alive
