I was waiting for your review of Orca Aero! It just climbed to #1 of my future bikes list, passing the Aeroad. Having a 2015 TCR Pro 1 and a 2016 Defy, both with deep wheelsets, I've been dreaming of an aero superbike for years. I am a sucker for the way aero bikes look. The Orbea configurator is quite nice, with a sound color palette, and I would most likely go for the lowest spec model, but upgrading to a better wheelset for 800 euros. I understand these bikes are still not available for purchase yet, but hopefully, they will be available next year. Hoping to have a test ride a bit sooner.
I´m considering three framesets for 2022: Cervelo S5, Orca Aero and Canyon Aero Road. If Look and Cannondale dont release new aero models until April I wont wait much longer. That beeing said this Orca with glossy silver painting is stunning.
I’ve been waiting for this review and it was great , I like how you cover every detail and tell us how the bike feels, hopefully they become more available and I can get my hands on one
This is the review I was waiting for. Thanks! In terms of comfort: How does this compare to the Canyon Aeroad? In my mind the Aeroad is more flexible and should therefore be more comfty.
I like the look of the bike. I must admit I do prefer it w/o the tool kit. I agree aero bikes due make you feel superhuman when it comes to speed. I would love to see you review the Factor Ostro VAM to compare aero bikes but at a reduced weight. Nice job as always. Keep up the great work.
Great review. I am considering the Orca Aero as well. How tall are you, what is your inseam and what is the measurement of the top of the seat to the center of the BB for your set up on that size 57? Thanks!
by any chance does Orbea call that color scheme "fried egg"? Great bike and enjoyable review. It would have been good to have some numbers to pore over: now I won't know whether I could keep up with the TdF peloton if I get the bike!
Modern Aero bikes - I was suprised by the speed, handling and comfort of my Wilier Cento 10SL. Moving from a Defy pro to the Cento and it is as comfortable, better handling and noticblely faster. Yes the frame is 200g more buts its worth it. If I was spending more I've spoken to Filante owners who are blown away with the allround nature of their bike with the aero and a sub 1kg frameset.
Great review and beautiful bike! However, the weight is disappointing. For this money, and against the competition, I think people want/deserve both an aero design AND low weight. BMC have been selling their Timemachine Road for 4 years that weighs the same as this and is most likely just as fast. In 2022, an aero design frame that's over 1kg is not a good value. In 2017 it might have been.
Interesting to hear you say how much faster this bike feels. I have a Felt AR5, it's 7years old, and although I love it (it was my first "proper" bike) I am wondering if something newer, with technology moving forward, will make much of a difference
It would be interesting to see how much the own brand bikes that have tended to be rebadged open mould frames in tge past have closed the gap e.g. the new Vitus aero bike & the Ribble Ultra. Are they now comparable to the bikes mentioned here - Aeroroad, Madone, Orca Aero etc or have the got a bit more work to do.
Nice review. Really sick and tired of companies dictating what we can or can't buy! I have an aero bike, and an all around bike. Both rim brakes. IMO, disc brakes are UGLY, heavy, and not aero at all! Yes in most cases they do stop a little better than rim brakes. They are an improvement, but totally not necessary. I am 6'2, 235lbs, and have been using rim brakes for 12 years, with zero issues. A good quality wheelset, with good quality calipers, and pads is all I need. So give us a choice, stop forcing products on us! Ugh!🙉😳🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️
It works the other way! They wouldnt delete the rim version if enough people would buy them..but a few years ago, when both versions co-existed, the trend went to discs..🤷♂️
@@floridrummer88 because outside a few loonies, most unbiased people realise that rim brakes suck. Period. The only people literally calling for rim brakes are the fools who spent thousands on their carbon rim wheels and now can’t beer to see their investment become the shit that it was all along. Hence why the mass majority of riders will buy a disc brake bike 9 out of 10.
@@floridrummer88 ah no, I was just agreeing with your point. Or rather, to be precise, there is no chance that “it would be the other way around” and rim brake comes back, because only idiots would start investing in a rim brake bike. So given the market demand, it’s obvious rim brakes are just on its way out as it should.
Nice review. In your opinion would you take this over your TCR? Or would you still rate the TCR for more compliance in n-situations. I contemplated aero last year, but in the end plumped for TCR as I’m naturally a climber, but often wonder what a full aero bike would be like. Love my TCR though, fantastic bike and I’m sure it has way more ability than me!!
@@davidarthur Well for me it would probably be the all rounder so the tcr. But how compromised is Orbea for all round duties I guess. Each to their own and I know you probably can’t publicly state your preference but any clues? Guess I might need to add another stead to the cave…
@@pj9375 the orbea is good for all day endurance rides; did a 20hr endurance ridewith it no problems whatsoever. Most importantly, the frame storage meant no dorky frame bags so the bike always looked good during the ride.
David, why can't reviews be done using a simple load cell towing the bike with you in it? Would need a helper but we would get actual numbers and not just feelings which might just be based on looks and wishes.
Cycling seems to have rocketed into the ‘far too expensive’ category. This is no exception!

Thanks for great video, I am waiting for my Orbea Orka Areo until July

It looks very like Cannondale SystemSix. Can you do a comparison between these two?

Looks so much nicer without the aero toolbox on the bootom tube..great review

8kg without pedals!! So almost 9kg with pedals, lights, computer and other accessories!? This is way too heavy for this day in age and price

David. Are you 6ft? I thought you were M/L in giant. How come you had a 57, I thought you'd be a 55? I'm in-between sizes and trying to decide

Can you do review on a new 2022 orbea gravel range, maybe new terras?

The Orbea is definitely faster but the TCR is smoother with a more refined ride quality
@@davidarthur which would be your pick then? No sitting on the fence. If you had to keep one bike which would it be TCR or Orbea Orca Aero?
Well that depends on whether you want outright speed or comfort/ride quality - it's like comparing apples to oranges here really

Hello, will an edge 1040 fit on the mount from Orbea?
That tool box is gonna get real dirty.. But i can see how it makes the frame filled in and really helps aero.
But given it’s removable, it would be easier to clean than the equivalent area of the downtube 🤷🏻♂️
Great review thanks 🙏 😊
Did you have the 42 cm handlebar with?
what's your saddle height please?
Nice & Thanks :)

Last name is Orca but sheesh we cheap, wanna get an orbea roadbike soon hehe
Not sure if this bike is for me, its a bit rooted
I like the bike, but man, it sounds so loud. I think that would drive me nuts.
Keeping it under 10 K is an achievement. Really
Brought to you by the word nice. 😂
Nice 😘
Is this a 57 frame size?
yes
Would love to see this bike compared to the new Scott Foil. *Hint* 😉
How tall are you?
He said he rides the size 57, so he’s between 186-191CM tall.
0:40 a 57cm frameset!
You have to run this with the down tube box, lol no hiding. 😁
Just a 90s tri bike with drop bars.
Canyon Slx and other similar boring type thingy shape rip off going on here...still nice equipment but designers come on...
Hmmm…. I personally think this bike looks really ugly. Can’t explain why but just simply ugly 😑
The paint job does not help, for sure.
I agree! Terrible!
Hideous looking bicycle
ugly forms?
The bike was a no go at the moment he said press fit BB
Aaand it’s dirty
This #Orbea just look like a #Windspace SMH so borring bike, not pleasing to the eyes. IMO
