Hikaru brought up a more legit conspiracy of what Magnus is actually concerned with. Magnus was suspicious that there was a mole on his team leaking his strats and lines. So the theory is that he played a really obscure line to watch Hans directly play against it proving to himself someone on his team is betraying him. He left the tournament not because he was mad about the L but because someone on his team has violated his trust. He hasn’t accused Hans of anything in public because the beef is personal and within his team.

as a former chess player that was active for only two weeks this is truly heartbreaking on a personal level, i never expected something like this out of our community
If Hans cheated, it was almost certainly by have someone leak Magnus' prep ahead of time so Hans could study that one line. This would explain why he weirdly said he studied such a rare line, and it would explain why Magnus dropped out - if someone on his team is leaking his prep, he wouldn't want to play more games until he can find out who is doing it.
the kid won both games, the chess game and the reality game, magnus is in fear and panic, not all that surprising if you watch footage of how emotionally magnus reacted alot of the times when he lose, elon musk knows the reality game very well, thats why he is laughing bhind his iphone now, like it or not everyone is playing the reality game voluntarily or involuntarily
Something to note is that Hans did not play the best moves most of the time, and played a few sub-optimal moves which could have sabotaged his gameplay. So, at the very least, he was still able to execute the win with some of his own moves.
This could potentially have been him throwing in his own moves on occasion to help throw off anyone who might think he's using a bot. Purposely choosing not to follow the moves on occasion just to further hide the moves that were from an AI. Or to avoid moves that would more obviously be made by an AI. That's just a potential idea though. Would still be risky throwing in his own moves either way if he was cheating. But this is all still assuming he did cheat with this line of thought. No way to say for sure until someone comes out and says it with the authority to say so.
@@snickersnacker4502 yes, cheaters do intentionally not pick the best move but that would involve the computer relaying all the top 10 moves to him because sometimes he plays a move which is fine but not in the realm of even the top 5 computer recommended
@@puzzLEGO Lets be honest, the scariest and most powerful cheaters would be the ones that actually have the skills to back themselves up without the cheats.... Though the idea of him having to casually sit through over ten moves worth of Morse code vibrations is hilarious.
@@puzzLEGO The thing about chess cheaters in pro settings like this is that the person cheating is already insanely good at the game. Even if Hans were to cheat, it's safe to assume that he'd already be amazing at the game without cheats anyway, so he wouldn't need the bot to tell him the top 10 moves, since the move he'd do with his own skill is most likely already in the top 10.
When Charlie first mentioned the anal beads, I thought it was just a wild analogy to explain how crazy the situation was. I was shocked when he pulled up articles of people actually accusing the dude of using anal beads 😂
The only reason I wasn't surprised was because I saw Elon Musk share on Twitter a Reddit post suggesting that the beads were responsible for Magnus being the top chess player for as long as he has been.
The most compelling theory imo is that carlsen has suspected for a while that someone on his prep team has been leaking info, so he chose an obscure line & behold, niemann just happened to have studied that kind of line for their match. When he asserts that he never cheated over the board, he could still feel truthful if the cheating was during prep off the board.
@@perspectiveotaku3438 yes, Magnus' seconds who have known him for 15 years decided to leak preparation to some random grandmaster in a classical event. People who don't actively play tournament chess don't realize that preparation is a two way street. You can't just leak some preparation, if you leaked some, you have to leak all of it, because his prep is also based on what his opponent's moves. and are kept in large databanks. And if you try to tell me that Magnus Carlsen, world champion, was outprepped by someone who looked at his prep that morning and he has been looking at it for years, I'd think you were delusional. (I.e Hans recieved a wildcard to be in this event; he knew about his participation for a week max. and if you try to squeeze 10 years of world championship level preparation into a week, good luck lol) This also means Magnus is a bigger piece of shit than ever before because if that's the case, he just let a 19 year old kid get harrassed on the internet for two weeks when a 5 word tweet could've stopped it if it was a prep leak. Also, Magnus' seconds have already come out on chess24 saying that theory isn't true at all ^_^ but it's plausible because that's' what you want to cling to. As a guy that has only played chess once years ago in school and lost This has me quaking, shaking on my bed i am absolutely quintuckeled insano indeed
To me, the actual reason Magnus withdrew is probably that he talked to someone confidentially about wanting to play that line and that person snitched so the information ended up at Hans, or something equally unspectacular.
The most believable and reasonable explanation I've seen is that someone close to Magnus leaked the strategy he was gonna use against Hans. So Hans obviously just prepared for it like he admitted in the interview
@@carpedm9846 well Magnus only used the line once and usually they study the more used lines because the person is more likely to do those lines so the chances os hans knowing the line that was used once is very low
Thing is, as a chess player you don't just have this secret "chess strategy I'll use tomorrow" diary or idea like chess is a perfect information game that's not really a thing. People have been talking about leaked opening preps but 1) If you wanted to leak his prep which is already weird if you had something against him or smth *you don't give it to Hans when he is playing black against magnus* 2) the more real point, you don't really have one opening in this secret folder, when you prepare for a game you look at multiple lines and sidelines on your chessbase which is basically like a large note system software for chess so if someone was to leak his prep that would be like me asking for some cheat sheet before a test and someone handing me a book. Han's interviews have been absolutely dogshit but there's no clear indication or any indication that he cheated. It's just magnus leaving the tournament which is an absolutely terrible thing to do in a round robin tournament made people think it had something to do with cheating and then chess streamers like hikaru just hopped on that bandwagon for content. Clearly magnus thinks he did cheat because he didn't come out to clear anything up for this entire time but there's simply no proof so that's just being a dick
Magnus loses relatively often, it's more the fact that he withdrew from a tournament which is extremely, extremely rare in chess combined with Hans' behavior. Moreover, Magnus is the single most respected individual in the sport. It would be like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic all accusing the same person of cheating. It's not proof but you damn sure have to look into it.
There's a big problem for Hans here. The best players can feel if they play aginst a human or a machnie. They know how the patterns of play are and they know how good the opponents are. The fact that many top GM's suspect cheating from Hans makes a great case against him even tho they havnt found anything physically yet.
But if you watch a play-by-play review by Hikaru or other GM's they actually point out how Hans's moves weren't actually the best, or even amazing. He just played very solidly, while Magnus played bad.
@@leeallen5132 hans' coach once suggested you'd only need to cheat 4 times a game to guarantee a win. Obviously we need evidence to come to a conclusion and for the time being he is innocent but just because he made some not so perfect moves doesn't mean he's innocent either.
Magnus had a lot of chances to equalize that game, but his play was off that day. Hans did nothing out of the ordinary in that specific game, but because of his past now around 50% of people think he's guilty with 0 evidence.
This trick has been around for years, Back in '72 I beat Kasparov with a Commodore Pet shoved up my ass. Man did that thing throw a lot of heat. Anyways, I feel sorry for the guy with the wand who will now have to add a goatse check to his pre-game inspection repertoire. I'd rather be a little league umpire and take all the abuse that comes with it.
Niemann had nothing to lose against Magnus, It's pretty weird if he went to great lengths at the risk of his whole career and GM title to have a win against him. It's not even the first time someone beat MC. He either cheated and was really prepared to defend himself from allegations, or he did not cheat which makes being transparent easy for him. Overall, chess is freaking wild.
It’s not even the first time hans beat him, he beat him in a rapid (15 minutes) game a couple of weeks before. Although there is a large difference between rapid and classical.
Beating Magus puts his rating to Super Gm. It'd also make him first in a 100k tournament. I don't see any real evidence he cheated, but there's definitely reason to.
The most annoying thing about this whole situation is fairly prominent figures in the chess community on the Hans cheated bandwagon led me and I'm sure many other people to believe the moves he played were inconceivable and something only a chess bot would come up with. Which is simply not true. The line he played has been done before and is very much something you can study. It's really sad such popular people in chess are being so disingenuous.
@@paulplockinger431 Edit: i Stand corrected. I mixed up levy and Hikaru's analysis. Levy is pretty unbias in this situation. "Well not just Hikaru. There've been times when I played people I thought were cheating, I keep my eyes on them. Anyway, great video!
Very easy to cheat actually. You can just go to the bathroom during the match and use stockfish to your benefit. Any player above 1600 ELO with decent memory can easily reconstruct a positon on their phone after leaving the board. And then getting a full evaluation from the engine. Giving them information about who stands better and key ideas in the position. It's so easy to get away with, without raising any suspicion, as long as you don't abuse this and check for every move. Best you can do is probably just to be aware and keep your eyes on suspects, as you said.
@@totalhysteria this could potentially work.... for 1 or two moves only. How many times in a game do you expect to go to the bathroom before they look into it? Not many
The RF scanner doesn't necessarily pick up on devices that only receive information, so scanning a person might not work with the wand. If it was a metal detector, then it's a matter of how sensitive it is.
I was going to say the same thing. When I was in the psychiatric hospital, patients often were able to sneak various objects on their person in through the RF scanner they use when we are admitted. This is also considering they check your bag and your clothes to make sure they are considered safe
12:45 Someone spends 4 hours making a device that could do that, and another person is making a open source project trying to demonstrate that it could work... but he just need someone willing to test it.
To be fair, you wouldn't need to put stockfish "in" the beads. Given there was no stream delay, a third party could send vibrations corresponding to grind coordinates. X-axis first then y-axis, to signify what piece, and then repeat for where to move it.

Plus it would actually help Hans that magnus had the white pieces instead of hurt him. Since he could them just react to his moves and see what the chess bot would do in that situation. 12:00 Also, the Champions Chess Tour: Julius Baer Generation Cup had Kenneth W. Regan on yesterday, a chess player and mathematician, and he has made the engine that detects cheating. I saw a theory where someone claimed that someone in magnus’ close circle was a mole, magnus caught wind of this mole, so he prepped specifically that line that he’s only done one time, and if Niemann would’ve responded well he knew he found his mole. Just an interesting theory.
But doesnt explain why magnus left the tourny after finding the mole, right? He could have kicked the guy out and proceeded to play, knowing that now he had free reign
The best theory I've seen yet is that, Hans got a hold on Magnus' prep and prepared accordingly (with engine help before the game). It fits that he cannot explain properly about his moves, which is not as easily explained by "scatterbrained" as Charlie would've thought, since at that level it's near impossible to play on intuition and not understanding your own moves. It also fits that tournament didn't detect this, because there's no "cheating" during the game. It also fits that Magnus withdrew from the tournament, since if your prep is being leaked it's going to be an uphill battle for him when all his opponents can engine prep against his prep beforehand. Not being able to trust your own team for not sabotaging you also doesn't help.
Yeah I think this is the most likely scenario as well. Especially since Hans said he just happened to reference that opening by chance... from a game that... Magnus never played.

A couple of points Hikaru brought up. The picture of Hans getting scanned by the wand is after the Carlsen match. They only brought it in then, so it wasn't there when he played Magnus. If Hans cheated, it was almost certainly by have someone leak Magnus' prep ahead of time so Hans could study that one line. New chess meta. Prostate simulation increases (gameplay) performance. All High level players will be adopting this technology from now on.
Where did this information come out
Something to note is that Hans did not play the best moves most of the time, and played a few sub-optimal moves which could have sabotaged his gameplay.

The most compelling theory imo is that carlsen has suspected for a while that someone on his prep team has been leaking info, so he chose an obscure line & behold, niemann just happened to have studied that kind of line for their match. (I.e Hans recieved a wildcard to be in this event; he knew about his participation for a week max. and if you try to squeeze 10 years of world championship level preparation into a week, good luck lol)
This also means Magnus is a bigger piece of shit than ever before because if that's the case, he just let a 19 year old kid get harrassed on the internet for two weeks when a 5 word tweet could've stopped it if it was a prep leak.
Also, Magnus' seconds have already come out on chess24 saying that theory isn't true at all ^_^ but it's plausible because that's' what you want to cling to. If you ignore all the facts, then anything can make sense.

People have been talking about leaked opening preps but
1) If you wanted to leak his prep which is already weird if you had something against him or smth *you don't give it to Hans when he is playing black against magnus*
2) the more real point, you don't really have one opening in this secret folder, when you prepare for a game you look at multiple lines and sidelines on your chessbase which is basically like a large note system software for chess so if someone was to leak his prep that would be like me asking for some cheat sheet before a test and someone handing me a book.

@@wlockuz4467 I’ve only been watching him for a few months. And he def talks about a variety of things instead of the same old same old. You gonna be ok? You sound pretty upset about a comment on RUclips.
Best guess is Hans just got really lucky, but picking that line to study seems beyond lucky. I feel like he had to have had some kind of inside information to be able to know that one random line would be played that Magnus only played once
Yeah it's probably most-likely Magnus had his prep leaked
This is like a conspiracy theory
@@HairyJuan Magnus prep was leaked? Who leaked it? And why would he helped Hans lmao. If i was the rat i would give it to Fabi or Nepo not Hans lmao.
@@HairyJuan And, the prep didn't matter at all, in the game Magnus has a lot of opportunities to draw, but he missed all of it and lose.
@@Filicitizen123 Dunno. If it was indeed leaked it's probably lead to people who are betting with these chess matches, considering that the odds is definitely stacked against Hans.
Problem is, there's two settings typically on those: ultra loud and non existent. If only we had footage we could analyze how often the guy was O facing and everyone looking around for a phone
yo...how do you know about the settings...?
What a pain in the ass that must've been...
for both players
As a Chess lover, I can’t even believe stuff like this happens. It’s simply too embarrassing in every single way. I’m glad Charlie is talking about this though.
You shouldn't be embarrassed if you aren't a competitive player.
Levy rosman aka Gotham chess talked about it first. Unfortunately Charlie does not have the jurisdiction to milk this for content. Only chess players like Gotham. So me and my company are taking this video down asap

@@JOOKST3R Ok lol good luck on attacking reporters for reporting.
@@JOOKST3R You don't even have pubes, how are we expected to believe you actually have a company?
Cheating with a bot seems unlikely, but I’ve heard theories of Magnus having an insider leaking his prep and that seems a lot more likely
Thats not cheating anyways
Yeah but if true, magnus still got screwed royally😅
@@baradureye2170 was that a pun?
@@alejandrorobles6865 yes, definitely cheating
Why would Hans believe in that and accept?
To me the worst part of this drama is Hikaru blatantly doing anything to make people believe Hans cheated and then claiming "I never even insinuated he cheated"
Honestly he didn’t
Hikaru is such a slimeball
@@sleepisthecousinofdeath7395 He did
Thats definitely not worse than Hans cheating lol
Hikaru’s always been an ass
It’s so funny that he referenced it’s always sunny in Philadelphia and then it’s always sunny in Philadelphia make an episode about this very situation🤣 Rob definitely watches Charlie
1:50 "in a buttshell" - Missed opportunity.
5:50 I had to set the whisky down and press left arrow
I saw a theory where someone claimed that someone in magnus’ close circle was a mole, magnus caught wind of this mole, so he prepped specifically that line that he’s only done one time, and if Niemann would’ve responded well he knew he found his mole. Just an interesting theory.
That's some tinker, tailor, soldier, spy shit right there.
Woah.
I didnt know chess had an Among us patch... XD
But doesnt explain why magnus left the tourny after finding the mole, right? He could have kicked the guy out and proceeded to play, knowing that now he had free reign
@@Felix-ii5st Possibly but it might not be a matter of one bad egg, maybe he needs to do proper housecleaning.
the fact that this is so outlandish that they put it into an episode of Always Sunny was literally so fitting

@@skeletonwar4445 Yeah definitely. It also fits with why Magnus hasn't made a statement if all he has a strong suspicions but maybe hasn't yet flushed out the mole.

Could you elaborate?
That whole “where you sit” cheat seems so Galaxy brained that it’s probably less of a pain in the ass to just become a grandmaster

And the worst thing is that that’s actually what happened
Hans has been a pretty shitty winner about it either way.
@@heltvolt4403 Once a cheat, always a cheat. If Hans didn't cheat in the past then there would be a lot less suspicion.
I feel bad for hans because this will have a huge impact on his career and he almost certainly has not cheated in OTB at all. on the other hand the only reason this whole thing went down is because he was cheating online for a long time and in a lot of event. it was well known amogst top players that hans was a prolific cheater, certainly alot more than what he claimed in his interview. really it's a warning to up and coming players why cheating online is such a poor choice
@@Neil-qg9cw Bullshit. You'd need a lot of balls to risk it in a match like this after a history of cheating, plus people change. You invalidated your entire opinion by prefacing it with 'Once a cheat, always a cheat' which is just objectively a false statement based on confirmation bias.

Who said he wasn’t gonna do that regardless 😉
A couple of points Hikaru brought up. The picture of Hans getting scanned by the wand is after the Carlsen match. They only brought it in then, so it wasn't there when he played Magnus. Secondly, they don't search your shoes at that tournament, which is important because there's something called "sockfish". He definitely had a larger opportunity to cheat than Charlie realises.
You had me at “high tech anal beads”. Also very curious about this story.
