My Westport story...to qualify, I grew up surfing SoCal beach breaks, surfed Oregon and Washington spots, Jordan River, B.C., Santa Cruz for 5 years etc. etc...a solid mediocre surfer (I'm a 70 yr old geezer now, sold my last board 13 yrs ago). One day I drove north from Portland to visit a friend in Seattle. I drove up the coast stopping here and there. I stopped at Westport Jetty, walked over the rise and saw a solid 6 inch to a ft. on shore day happening. Driving back the next day I stopped in to Westport again because there was an off shore wind now and I wondered if it came up a bit. When I walked over the rise I was completely stunned to see head high waves with bigger sets once in awhile and barreling from the off shore wind. The frequent sets were averaging 7-9 waves per set with the usual crowds of 7 or 8 people out (this was 97'). I guess the thing I'm getting at is you just don't know sometimes, even with NOAA type technology. It ended up being one of the very best sessions of my life, as good as the best at Pleasure Point I'd experienced. I called friends in Cal later. I could hear the skepticism in their voice but I had to tell someone...plus to rub it in about the 'huge crowd' that was out that day lol
We cater to the community of all surfers. Sure, we could edit to show only "top dogs", but that's not what we do. We're about the real community. #wereyouthere ?
people enjoying themselves, not a well known surf spot for ripping surfers, here in australia we have places for average folk enjoying themselves where the best surfer is the one who paddles in with the biggest smile on his face
Anyone know about the sandbar in Grays Harbor? Heard it can be a nice wave when big, but only accessible by boat or something. Went this week, but I couldn't see it from where i was on shore.
It's best to just surf at the main beaches. We don't need anymore unqualified people to adventure out there and get into trouble. There's plenty of surf for you at Westport!
All times of year! Generally surf is smaller in summer and bigger in winter. Different breaks pick up different conditions. Pick your break and dial into what makes it good. Offshore winds are more consistent in fall and winter. Learn how to read surf reports, and above all else, be kind to your fellow beach goers and practice ethical surfing. ⛱️ 🌊
Heavy spot not for the kooks who can’t handle a good hold down or heavy rip as with most the Oregon Washington spots that pump out a decent facing break
Good tunes, good looking waves!
hey, watching from australia, good vibe!!
great shots of PNW!. Looking forward to more

Also, some nice shorebreak this week (5/23/23 2-3 ft, cant remember the swell period tho) for bodyboarding. Had a clean 7 foot face with one drop.
When's the best time to go surfing up here?
