Hope you enjoyed today’s experiment. I just wanted to point out that some of these suggestions could work a lot better on SSS that are just drying out (opposed to ours that were completely dry rock solid). Thanks for all the suggestions 😊
BEAUTY NEWS i think you have to crush the shadows and then repress and use oil because the first one worked really good bc there was no dried top layer blocking the oil
Can you do this with the Jelly much shadow? I find that some of my jelly much have dried up super fast even though I keep them closed up. I’ve never had a super shock dry up on me, even some that I’ve had for years are still good but the jelly much is only a few months old.
I wish y'all tried this using glycerine. It works great at melting powders into flexible moussey textures. I used it with my dried out cream blush from Lush and it extended the life. I also added glycerine to my elf shimmer highlighter powder and it's so creamy now. I only need a small amount and it spreads well.
Would be good for their limited edition shadows. They’d need to keep the amount small though so people continue to replace their regular ones and they can make their money.
They’re really missing out by not having done that yet. I mean, theyre generally inexpensive as it is, so having an in brand product to mix with the shadows would probably be a no brainer for anyone looking for that type of product.
TheFutureSmiles I use Duraline for my gel liner from morphe and it works perfectly :) Since the duraline dries down I usually use a drop every time I use the gel liner, but the duraline has literally lasted for years! Have half the bottle left 😍

@@MartesMakeup I've used Duraline for mine as well. It's the only thing that works. I did try argan oil, but the liner didn't seem to last as long on my eye.
Came here to say…. I’ve played around and experimented with rehydrating my supershock shadows and I believe I have found a clear winner! Considering that the main ingredient in these shadows is dimethicone, I searched for a product that was heavy in dimethicone but not expensive. It’s a little weird… But it works. stay with me now… Monistat chafing relief powder gel. It’s about seven dollars for a hefty amount and it has a beautiful gel to powder formula that is heavy in dimethicone. I de-pot my supershock shadows and mix in just enough of the gel to get it to a loose Play-Doh consistency. I then repress and voilà! Almost as good as new :) Happy experimenting!! ♥️
I agree 😍 I use it for extremely matte lipsticks and it makes them into a sort of liquid lipstick for a bit before it drys down 🔥 highly recommend everyone looks up Inglots video and how they use duraline 😍
Sarah Wong it worked perfectly for me! Used it in the lid of the shade “Morning Light” before blending it together and applying to the eye, and it was super pigmented and lasted the whole day!
Sarah Wong I JUST bought the Cruella JM shadow and I only used it once and sealed it as tightly as possible and now it's all thick. Never buying another one again, plus the glitter fall out was ridiculous.

Inglot duraline is great for mascaras and liquid glitters like stila one, it's really awesome thing u can use to almost anything and it will make things wet for a long time if u close them.

How smart would it be for Colourpop to release their own Supershock rehydrator?! I feel like there is a whole market out there they're missing! Lol Loved this video! Thank you! 😁👍❤
You r wrong. If they have a hydrator new products won't sell. Atleast 80% of their customers do not know how to rehydrate the product. The product goes to the dustbin and you buy a new one. That's the game. ..that u keep buying and their sales go up.
Smashbox original clear silicone primer works great BUT you have to break up the SSS, add some to it, mix it together and press it back in the pan. Makes them just like new and works like a charm everytime :)
I was willing you to get that spatula out and mix the things in! Clear silicone primer (no idea what extra stuff is in the coloured one you had) does work but you do need to use primer AND glycerin. No way should you need more than $5 worth of primer though! I've saved loads of silicone based cream products using this method.
Definitely going to mix Duraline with the glittery Supershocks I have though so I can use them up, the damned things crease on me like no other cream eye shadow I've ever tried bar Charlotte Tilbury (worst things ever, they don't even set!) The matte ones don't crease at all but they seem to have discontinued most of the mattes :-(

I have a method that works, it just takes a little time. I think saline solution from Costco works the best to rehydrate the stila glitters and the Colourpop super shock shadows!!! I use it to rehydrate any of my makeup that dries out, including Coverfx drops. However, I break the SS shadow completely up with a needle and stir in a couple drops of saline solution. Then I spray with one or two sprays of alcohol, and repress (not super tightly, like a medium press) with a paper towel. It doesn’t look the same, obviously, because the pressed pattern is not there anymore, but it swatches exactly the same. I have two of Telepathy, and one dried out. Once I had used my method, both swatched exactly the same!!!
I'm a little surprised no one has tried glycerin. It's relatively cheap in the pharmacy. I wonder if that would work... probably not. I tossed all my dried up shadows so, I don't have any to test. This was interesting though!
I think it’s because mold would grow. I can’t remember what brand but a couple years ago it was a big fiasco of an indie brand’s shadows growing mold. Turns out they had a base that was heavy in glycerin
I imagine mixing in The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid primer would work a bit better (than the smash box one) since it is dimethicone based and it is a lot more fluid
This video is a great example that oil is only meant to break down makeup and not necessarily revive makeup. That’s why most long wear makeup says “Oil-Free”. I find that majority of my clients that don’t like traditional makeup removers tell me they use some type of oil to break down the makeup like coconut oil and olive oil. So this makes it clear. Thank you! ☺️
I’ve been using Duraline to rehydrate my SuperShocks for a couple years now. It works great on both the mattes and the shimmers! But I do the ‘one drop for each use’ method because I’m familiar with how Duraline works to turn loose or pressed eyeshadow into eyeliner. (ahitsrosa has an excellent tutorial on using Duraline to make custom eyeliners, too. It’s older, but worth looking up if you need a quick primer on using Duraline to make eyeliner.)
if it is not too dry or hard as rock, you can spritz a little of water in a ziplock bag, leave your shadow inside with the lid loosely covered and sealed it for about 1 day, it will come back to life without adding anything into the shadow.
Honestly, i use duraline by putting a decent amount in some dried product, then popping the lid on and letting it sit for a day or two. Rehydrates the entire product.
Same. I add a couple of drops and leave it alone for a few days, good as new. I know they said they were worried about needed to add more duraline every time but it's been several months for a few of mine and they're still going strong.

I've been using the oil and silicone primer methods for a few months and the silicone method works THE best! Oil is ok for a quick fix, but silicone will keep it creamy for a lot longer. I use Smashbox Photo Finish, but any silicone primer will work similarly. If you crush the shadow and add the primer, it works so much better.
I would be very curious to see how these mediums would work if the shadows were ground up and mixed with these mediums then repressed. I wonder how one of the dried out shadows would be if you just ground it up and pressed it like a normal shadow as well.
i put a couple drops of water in mine and they were back to normal. They dry out SOOO fast though so you will have to add more periodically, but i'm pretty sure they're water based anyway so it doesnt mess with the formula
On my dried out gel eyeliner, I used a silicone-based primer and popped the eyeliner into the microwave for just 15 seconds on the lowest power setting (200Watts I think) to "melt" it down. It became creamy and warm. I let it cool and it honestly worked good as new again. A hairdryer also works.
Thank you for this tip!!!! It completely saved my matte and discontinued Cornelious shade!!!!! I used the drunk elephant marula oil (one drop) and it's perfect!
fun fact from a nail tech on why the jojoba worked better than the primer oil: Jojoba is the best cuticle/nail oil in the world because it is the only oil (aside from the oils that our bodies produce) that is small enough on the molecular level to be absorbed by the nail plate. So it is possible that the jojoba oil absorbed better due to its small particle size. (Side rant: also, coconut oil is absolute trash for your nails, it's basically the same as Vaseline or mineral oil in that it will make your skin feel soft when it's on but once it's gone your skin and nails will be dryer than they were before you applied it)
I'd love to see a battle of Inglot Duraline, Makeup Forever Aqua Seal, and Trish McEvoy Finish Line. I own them all, but I don't have any old makeup to test them out on.
OMG YES NEEDED THIS Why oh why do we keep buying these in bulk when we know they'll dry out on us? I think I'll mix mine up with some GoTo face oil I got in my last ipsy glam bag plus
I love my Inglot Duraline for creating coloured eyeliners out of my eyeshadows. It works perfectly...well worth the money. It also lasts for ages. My current bottle is probably 3 years old and still working well.
I just got the colourpop “is this real life” 25 vault of SSS & I won’t use them daily, but love them ...& just bought some Duraline from Amazon... thanks for the advice !!!
I use NYX mixing medium for anything that needs to be rehydrated. I’ve used it to make cream shadows out of pigments too. It’s pretty good and inexpensive
I love how many items and mixing options you tried. I do love Duraline for rehydrating liners and cream bases. It does seep in and help with texture if left on, then dry back out over time. But a few drops help for a very long time.
I use the clear smashbox silicone primer, and it works amazing! The trick is that you HAVE TO scoop the dried shadow out into a small bowl or the like, and then ad a dollop of primer and mix until it becomes smooth. The amount of primer depends on the level of dryness. Then you just press it into the pan with a spatula and it is almost as good as new!
This was so helpful and fun at the same time! I am sitting here with my 20 Super Shock Shadows, 4 of them very dried out or broken, but they're being rehabilitated with Inglot Duraline to my great happiness, because they're discontinued shades that I love. Thanks from the US!
Yes I juse the inglot duraline mix in medium because I have hodded eyelids, and my eyeshadow liner dossent transfer enymore. I love it. Great video, thank you 🤗 🌹 Hugs from Denmark 🇩🇰 🌹
I moved last week and I found a few beautiful red, burgundy ones I had bought a couple years ago. One was so dry that the entire thing was cracked.. I saved them anyway hoping maybe I could bring them back to life. Now I can!
One of my SSS literally fell out of the pot and into my sink today because it's half dried up. Thankfully i got most of it back into the pot and it's still usable, but it's going to need to be revived soon. Thank you for this video! 💋💋💋
OMG, you guys totally read my mind!! I was wondering about this a few months back and you guys did it! Now I'm going to go buy me a bottle of dural line! Thanks lady's
hey girls, if you're adding stuff like the primer to powder/eyeshadows, try a glass slab or a flat surface of some kind + a big flat spatula (i've got a metal cake spatula type but flat) and smear it together side to side; it will ensure an even distribution of the addition to the powder and it lets you smooth out lumps in the process before putting it into a container. it also lets you get every last bit off the slab vs getting things out of the nooks/crannies of a bowl. love your work !
@@Mkmissy thanks for the tip! I just added jojoba oil, mixed it all up and made a bit of a mess. Just wondering now if there's any easier method or product.
It’s so funny that you are doing this! I haven’t had to save a SS yet but I have had to save my jellies multiple times. Water so far is what I’m using, though I’m open to suggestions. I use a spray can of Evian and I’ve found the more you make it wet, the better, almost runny. Then I mix it with a toothpick and let it set flat with the lids for 24 hours or until absorbed and jelly again. This also worked on a tarte chrome paint pot only I didn’t stir it I just sprayed it and let it soak in. My jellies run dry about once a month and I’m not in a dry climate or in direct sunlight and they have both lids. If I could use something longer lasting than water at keeping the product hydrated I’d love it. I’m. It sure it’s possible.
Wow, I was just sitting in my room going through my super shock shadows and thinking I need to find a video that shows the best way to revive them. Two hours later scrolling through RUclips and there it is without me even looking. You guys read my mind!
love the video. i have been looking for a way to rehydrate my sss. a lot of mine came already dried out so i was really mad and wanted to find a way to still use them. i'll try leaving an oil soak up over a few days or so.
I am so excited for this video. I don't even own any color pop products, but have always wanted to try their eyeshadows, but worried they would dry out too quickly.
I use rose body oil to rehydrate mine :) doesn’t leave them overly oily and it absorbs really quickly, plus it smells good ❤️ Some of them over time still require adding more oil, but they perform exactly the same as they did before they were ever altered. The only thing is if too much oil is used, they turn really paste-ey (but for some of the tricky matte shadows, the paste delivers more pigmentation lol) Plus I’ve never had to break any of my Super Shocks with this method. Just swirling a bit over the top, giving it a few minutes, and they’re good to go. I’ve also used Chi hair oil in the past but I noticed the oil would separate from the pigments and glitters a bit and would actually make the shadows really dull. The rose body oil hasn’t changed them in this way. In fact, the shimmer/glitter shades became more shiny and the mattes a bit more workable.
Yes! You have to break up the shadow and drip the oil in, then put the lid on and leave it overnight. The next morning, take a paper towel and press the shadow back in the pot to soak up the excess oil. Works like a dream.
After watching you guys use a setting mist on the SSS, I got curious and tried my Mario Badescu spray (pink one) and spritzed it 2-3 times on my mostly dry SSS and I swear to god, it worked!!!! I swatched if before and after. Before it was, of course, dry and not very pigmented but afterward it was creamier and more pigmented! I don't think it was a drastic change but it def helped a lot!!!
Thank you so much for doing this, I’ve been curious about what products would work. I’m interested to see if the Mehron mixing medium would work similar to the Duraline as it’s a bit more watery in consistency. I love watching you videos, they are fun and informative. Aloha! 🌺
Cyclopentasiloxane is the main ingredient in SSS, which partly acts like a solvent. Some primers contain that as a second ingredient etc. I happened to have HSI Argan Oil Leave In Treatment, the first ingredient of which is Cyclopentasiloxane. The HSI product also contains many of the same ingredients as the SSS, so I used a few drops and BAM, I have my shadows back! Will spot test first and avoid getting the resurrected shadow in my eyeballs, but I’m fairly certain everything will be fine. 😁 The ingredient list is fairly short, I only used a tiny amount and I use oils and other skin barriers before I put on eyeshadow anyway.
Man if they were smart, Colourpop would develop and bottle up some kind of hydration product for their shadows/highlights, etc. in this formula that can be purchased....
I think if the colourpop shadow was crushed into a fine powder first then a cheap water free silicone primer mixed in, it would make a nice paste that you could transfer back into the pot. Super shocks are high in silicones so it's a suitable mixing medium. I've seen this done successfully.
I’ve personally used argon, marula and jojoba (which ever I have at the moment) and had a ton of luck. But I use a different method than what you used, I take out the product and mix in a medicine cup (as if I was repressing a shadow) with a few drops of oil and then repress the shadow and they last overtime 😊♥️
I was thinking of picking up some duraline for my liners, this is all the more reason to. I'm lucky that none of my super shock shadows have dried out yet, but there are a couple that are on the cusp. Thank you ladies, this was very informative.
I think the colour changed for the Duraline test because it converted the brown matte colour base to liquid as well (as is its nature). The original fresh one looks like it has mainly a matte pigment base with some gold & silver pearl which works maybe like an overlay? So I think the colour deepened because every component got rehydrated, got combined and made that rich copper colour.
You don't understand how much I needed this video... I was like 'Can I?' I really need to know now!!! 😫😫😫😫 thanks and the need in me appreciates the scientific approach
There’s a product that tattoo artists use to rehydrate tattoo ink. It’s called Silverback Clear. It would probably work for this. But it’s kinda hard to get if you’re not a tattoo artists and a bit expensive for a $5 eyeshadow.

i’ve used oil in mine before and it worked but only temporarily
Congratulations! In an overcrowded field of beauty videos, you two have managed to distinguish yourselves with truly novel content. Bravo!
I used Marula face oil on my matte SSS and they hydrate like a dream!!! HOWEVER I noticed that it doesn’t work on the SATIN SSS
Thank you for this tip!!!! It completely saved my matte and discontinued Cornelious shade!!!!! I used the drunk elephant marula oil (one drop) and it's perfect!
@@diamondstar001 the ordinary has a cheaper one so you arent wasting a 40 dollar oil
fun fact from a nail tech on why the jojoba worked better than the primer oil: Jojoba is the best cuticle/nail oil in the world because it is the only oil (aside from the oils that our bodies produce) that is small enough on the molecular level to be absorbed by the nail plate. So it is possible that the jojoba oil absorbed better due to its small particle size.
(Side rant: also, coconut oil is absolute trash for your nails, it's basically the same as Vaseline or mineral oil in that it will make your skin feel soft when it's on but once it's gone your skin and nails will be dryer than they were before you applied it)
Those nails though.. :D And this is really good information to have for the future when my SSS inevitably dry out. Thank you!
I'd love to see a battle of Inglot Duraline, Makeup Forever Aqua Seal, and Trish McEvoy Finish Line. I own them all, but I don't have any old makeup to test them out on.
OMG YES NEEDED THIS
Why oh why do we keep buying these in bulk when we know they'll dry out on us? I think I'll mix mine up with some GoTo face oil I got in my last ipsy glam bag plus
Who is "we".
True..we over buy stuff
@@Deenique16 ok maybe not you..because you may be cheap, frugal etc😒
I think a clear silicone primer like the original smashbox would work better.
I use the clear Smashbox and really mix it in an it works a treat ... I can't tell which ones I've rehydrated.
I love my Inglot Duraline for creating coloured eyeliners out of my eyeshadows. It works perfectly...well worth the money.
It also lasts for ages. My current bottle is probably 3 years old and still working well.
This is my favorite use of duraline also! 👌
I just got the colourpop “is this real life” 25 vault of SSS & I won’t use them daily, but love them ...& just bought some Duraline from Amazon... thanks for the advice !!!
I always know it’s gonna be a good day when I get a beauty news notification
A+ quality content. 👌
Edit: That's also a kickass thermal manicure!
Long Live King Duraline
I use NYX mixing medium for anything that needs to be rehydrated. I’ve used it to make cream shadows out of pigments too. It’s pretty good and inexpensive
Shelby Hall I didn’t even know they made one!
I just tried the duraline last week on one of my colourpop SS shadows for the first time. Worked for me.
Duraline is a ‘must have’ product for any makeup enthusiast, so many good uses.
I seen that the physicians formula argan oil works wonders for this.
Yay. Been waiting for this video. And it's the perfect amount of time for my train ride in to work.
This was so helpful and fun at the same time! I am sitting here with my 20 Super Shock Shadows, 4 of them very dried out or broken, but they're being rehabilitated with Inglot Duraline to my great happiness, because they're discontinued shades that I love. Thanks from the US!
Hurray for duraline, glad to have two bottles in stock! I should be safe for the foreseable future😀
This was a great video - Make up science!!!
Thanks ladies!
This is a “Make-up FIX Up”. Thanks for the good info!
good thing i have notifs on, your videos are never in my sub box
Yes I juse the inglot duraline mix in medium because I have hodded eyelids, and my eyeshadow liner dossent transfer enymore.
I love it.
Great video, thank you 🤗 🌹
Hugs from Denmark 🇩🇰 🌹
I moved last week and I found a few beautiful red, burgundy ones I had bought a couple years ago. One was so dry that the entire thing was cracked.. I saved them anyway hoping maybe I could bring them back to life. Now I can!
One of my SSS literally fell out of the pot and into my sink today because it's half dried up. Thankfully i got most of it back into the pot and it's still usable, but it's going to need to be revived soon. Thank you for this video! 💋💋💋
Instantly purchasing inglot duraline...
I don’t own any super shock shadows....but I LOVED this! Well done guys!
OMG, you guys totally read my mind!! I was wondering about this a few months back and you guys did it! Now I'm going to go buy me a bottle of dural line! Thanks lady's
Fun experiment. I’m curious if anyone is successful in rehydrating MAC paint pots.
I used glycerin and it kind of worked
They need to make a video on this one. Haven’t gotten to mine being dried out but for when it does become dried out I need to know!
I found that mine became creamy again with just sturring it up. I didnt add anything!
Drop or two of argan oil and just stirring it up worked for me.
hey girls, if you're adding stuff like the primer to powder/eyeshadows, try a glass slab or a flat surface of some kind + a big flat spatula (i've got a metal cake spatula type but flat) and smear it together side to side; it will ensure an even distribution of the addition to the powder and it lets you smooth out lumps in the process before putting it into a container. it also lets you get every last bit off the slab vs getting things out of the nooks/crannies of a bowl.
love your work !
Cool idea! Would love love love to see this for ABH Dip brow pomade!
Lisa Marr i use squalane and idk it works got me really well
@@Mkmissy thanks for the tip! I just added jojoba oil, mixed it all up and made a bit of a mess. Just wondering now if there's any easier method or product.
i always just put a bit of setting spray in it every time for mine!
i lovee the makeup science episodes of the makeup break up, this was so informative and fun to watch
Just rebuying the $5 eyeshadow if I really love it works for me every time 😂
We completely agree! But sometimes there are limited edition shades that people want to keep using :)
Duraline is awesome. A must have IMO. Waterpoof and so versatile, yet gentle on the skin. I love it!
Here to say Hailey's nails are so pretty 😍😍
Fantastic video!! Thanks for doing (and filming) this experiment!
But to be fair, there's so much duraline in a jar, no one ever finishes it.
Pretty close to finishing mine !!
I finished about 3 bottles in my life soo yeah
I’ve used a drop of MUFE Aqua Seal to rehydrate an old Super Shock Shadow each time I want to use it. It works pretty similar to Duraline, I believe.
Welp here’s me diggin in the trash tonight bc I literally went through my ss shadows yesterday
Just buy new ones
@@Deenique16 if she has Discontinued ones she might want to revive them since they are hard to find now or expensive af
@@Deenique16 why waste money....
I mean it’s colorpop, so it isn’t going to break the bank
You'd be doing this if you lived outside of the US or where the currency is much weaker 😁😄😆😂
WHAT??? I was literally looking this very thing up last night! 🤯🤯🤯
Wow, I was just sitting in my room going through my super shock shadows and thinking I need to find a video that shows the best way to revive them. Two hours later scrolling through RUclips and there it is without me even looking. You guys read my mind!
you guys are so thorough, you think of everything. i love the flow of this video.
I wanna know if you can rehydrate Jelly Much shadows cuz I think I got a dud.
Distilled water! Just mix a few drops into the product and it's just like new.
MissCannibella Thank you!!!
love the video. i have been looking for a way to rehydrate my sss. a lot of mine came already dried out so i was really mad and wanted to find a way to still use them. i'll try leaving an oil soak up over a few days or so.
I use duraline to rehydrate my eyebrow pomade & it stays hydrated over time!
I will add to my collection
I am so excited for this video. I don't even own any color pop products, but have always wanted to try their eyeshadows, but worried they would dry out too quickly.
I use rose body oil to rehydrate mine :) doesn’t leave them overly oily and it absorbs really quickly, plus it smells good ❤️
Some of them over time still require adding more oil, but they perform exactly the same as they did before they were ever altered. The only thing is if too much oil is used, they turn really paste-ey (but for some of the tricky matte shadows, the paste delivers more pigmentation lol)
Plus I’ve never had to break any of my Super Shocks with this method.
I used argan oil but i busted up the shadow and mixed it all up and repressed it
I kept shaking my right foot and thought I was the one shaking the esum bottle at 14:42 through the screen 🤣 I need sleep
I was struggling going back-and-forth between using Smashbox oil or my tried and true duraline..thank you so much for this video 🖤
Thank you ladies, this was very informative.
this is hands down my favorite video! so helpful! thanks girls
You’re so right about duraline drying out when you add it to the shadow, but it works for single uses, I was so sure it’d fox the whole formula
oh it worked!
I love when you ladies get all science-y
This is amazingly helpful. Thank you so much. I think Im in love with this series.
