I’m just scared of using the Huda because, like UD All Nighter, she is HEAVY in denatured alcohol which is known to disrupt the skin barrier over time. Thanks for pointing that out in this video, ladies!
denatured alcohol isnt THAT terrible for skin since it evaporates quickly. the best and cheapest setting spray i use everyday is the elf mist and set one. no alcohol, lots of polymers and humectants.

Kat L Oh yeah for sure! I just wondered because this kind of label usually comes with products that use ingredients which are not approved for localized use (you know, how some pigments aren't FDA approved as safe for eyes even though they come in eyeshadow format)? I just don't get why you wouldn't want your product to be 100% safe for use (within reason of course - not spraying directly on the eyes haha)
When they say “eye / lip” it’s not actually unsafe for the skin of the lips of the mouth or eyes but the risk it poses for ingestion or getting in the eye. So getting on your lips isn’t bad but licking your lips or ingesting it is “dangerous”, but getting a little in the mouth won’t hurt us.
adenineful that is the thing, some ingredients are not FDA approved even though they are absolutely fine to use (such as some pigments that are considered unsafe for eye use and therefore are not allowed to be labeled as eyeshadows, even though they are perfectly fine). Some of these ingredients for example are allowed in the EU, which has much stricter (and modern lol) regulations. im surprised about ur urban decay results! i worked for sephora and we used that demo all the time because it WORKED, makes me want to retry every setting spray with this test 🧐
When I use Green Marble spray I wear an old pair of sunglasses & press my lips together to avoid those areas. The alcohol content stings, but it really holds up well.
Isopropyl alcohol can be used to remove paint from the skin. And not just craft paints, also the kind of paint that is applied to outdoor heavy machinery (like tractors etc.)
@@bentlyluv1211 I'm only slightly better than trash at eyeshadow, so it takes forever unless I can just do a one-shade wash of colour. It's the hardest darn thing to have stay put too, especially with hooded lids!

@@shadypalmtree2989 Yes, obviously. Sad that we have to even tell adults not to eat or gaze into setting mist, but....I just find it weird that people would want to spray alcohol on their face in the first place.
I learned how to do stage makeup from my older sisters drama class before I learned how to do Day to day makeup. You bet I used hairspray. I still do for special occasions.
Exactly! It’s not like regular setting sprays aren’t full of alcohol always. I’ve looked at the ingredients, they’re not all that different, depending on the product.
Model in a Bottle is definitely hairspray!! It’s been used for years, especially for wedding makeup. I think it’s been around for like 15 years, I have it. It feels exactly like you are spraying hairspray on your face, but it works better than any other setting spray I’ve tried. I only use it for special, special occasions, I would never use it daily. Waaaaaay too much alcohol.....
Back in the day, before setting sprays were a thing, the hair spray of choice was actually Aquanet. It use to come in a bottle but today’s’ aversion is a purple can with a white lid (super extra hold, I scented).
That's kind of hilarious... I wonder if the Huda spray is any better for your skin than hairspray. 😩 I can understand using it RARELY, for more important events, if you're a performer. Holy hell, though. Is it possible for ANY setting spray to actually increase wear time and transfer resistance, without the use of denatured and/or isopropyl alcohol? Using fatty alcohols (eg: cetyl / stearyl alcohol, or cetearyl alcohol) would be good for your skin, but I can't see it increasing wear time... Hrm. Would be nice to know for sure, though! Also, I definitely like the finish of the hairspray more, but I am NOT a matte-lover. I only really like matte shadows in or above the crease (but not a necessity), matte blushes, and matte lip products.
I remember when urban decay first came out they didn't have an eyeshadow primer or setting sprays, and their shadows were good, I think that these company's decided to start making their makeup cheaply so you'd be forced to spend more money on other things, just to make it last.
This made me laugh... when I was younger my mom did my makeup at horse shows. She not only sprayed my hair until it was cement but she used hairspray on my face to hold my makeup in place. It worked in the nasty heat and humidity of our summer circuit!!
A better product if you are wanting extreme hold is Blue or Green Marble spray. I use it for prosthetics and special effects makeup on film. Drag queens also use it as they are a more skin appropriate product than hairspray. Especially the blue marble, which is a water based setting spray and doesn’t feather the makeup when you spray it. Green marble is still alcohol based for that more intense hold but I feel like I’d trust it more than huda
I've been using hairspray to set things for a long time now and I have to say that it really holds thing up, ITS NOT FOR EVERYDAY USE, you'll breakout the next day probably but if you like to cosplay of something with colourful skin tone really holds aquacolours and I tested for pride that I had a Bi flag on my beard and it's really usefull and cheap
I tested it in Sephora when it came out and this stuff works. I purchased it and only have used it once because it’s a special occasion spray, not everyday with that alcohol. It stinks and I can smell it for an hour after spraying. I would like a scent free version.
Hair spray is old school- it’s what we used to set makeup in the 70’s & 80’s and its what was used by Hollyweird and fashion for that purpose during that time. It’s also used by crime scene investigators to seal off footprints before making a plaster cast of them. And yes, I’ve personally used it for both things, but never used it on my hair!
Why did Huda even bother showing us its effectiveness using eyeshadows if you can't use it on your eyes?? It could have great ingredients and a lovely scent, but it's useless on half your face. Hard pass. 🤦♀️

@@shadypalmtree2989 I read some reviews where people experienced a burning sensation on their eyelids and lips after use. My skin is too sensitive to risk it, but other people might not have the same problem.
@@bellou72 Because the main ingredient is simply rubbing alcohol. That's why it stings. Not because it's anything bad, etc. At most, only use it if you have oily skin (it's a matte setting spray after all). If you have dry skin and want to use it, just make sure you moisturize extremely well before and after.
I wouldn't use hairspray or huda as they both have plastics in them to hold down the makeup. If I'm wrong please correct, but copolymer is a pretty common term for plastic in ingredient lists.
Polymers and copolymers are a huge class of materials it doesn't necessarily mean they're bad for the skin or the environment. Hyaluronic acid, cellulose, collagen are all polymers for example. Those in shampoos hairsprays and that thing (lol), usually acrylate copolymers are water soluble so they just dissolve when you wash your hair/face. PVP is also a water soluble polymer that's included in the Ingredients list.
Guilty of the hairspray trick. I remember reading it as a makeup artist tip for catwalk in a magazine when I was a kid. It’s not good for me, I know... but it work better than any other products I have tried and it’s cheap! 🤷🏻♀️
This is the kind of content I signed up for! Anyone who needs a setting spray for longevity, just use skindanavia. Or if you want a budget option, try Ben Nye Final Seal. It will dry your face out but the make up won't budge.
Yes!! I've kinda been waiting for someone to test this; I heard Huda compared to hair spray almost every time it's been mentioned and I just needed to see the comparison! Get in theerrrree! That actually does hold like crazy!
Mehron make a product called "Makeup Barrier Spray" that smells like pure gasoline, but *really* works well. I'd be curious to compare ingredients with the Huda. Great video 👌
Someone did this same test but huda vs morphe setting mist and they were more or less the same result. Morphe setting mist is eye and lip safe though and you don't suffocate on fragrance also less than half the price and doesn't drench your face
This is beautiful. You guys are so great, with your beauty investigations. I know you said *not* to...but I mean...the proof is right on your arm! It even out performed Huda’s spray. With how hot and sweaty I get, if I need to wear makeup one of these days...sorry, guys...lol. Thanks again for all you two do!
as a dancer I still use hairspray to set my makeup on performance nights as I have not found anything that holds as well but I definitely do not use it everyday
Not applying directly onto eyes and lips refers to when people use setting spray to wet the brush, like the too faced hangover spray, it has so many chemicals in it that it will react badly with your sensitive skin (such as eyelids or lips)
Wow. I've been using hairspray to set my makeup for a few weeks (I know I know, it's not good for my skin but YOLO). I spray my beauty blender and press it into my base. Works like a charm.
I've been testing this for over a month with no problems. I just keep my eyes closed tight until it dries, which just takes a few seconds, and tuck my lips in. i also don't depress the nozzle all the way, I do a bunch of small micro pumps across the sections of my face. The can doesn't say use with a sponge only, it says "spray in circular motions around the face avoiding eyes and lips. Huda's favorite way to use is to spray it on a sponge and dab on the face." I bought it to use for my wedding at the end of this month as I'm super oily and it has worked great for me so far. I'll switch back to something else after as i don't need something this hard core all the time and save it for special occasions.
When you said "we don't recommend using hairspray." I was like I'm definitely going to use hairspray. Why bother buying 2 product when you can buy one and still have fantastic result?
Take it from a man who has worn make-up in HOT and sweaty clubs (and long-weekend gigs) for over two decades... Elnett ALL THE WAY. It was an old tip even back then and drag queens have been using it since the 60s, at least! Just make sure to close your eyes. Of course, you do it at your own risk but having used a certain famous setting spray for the very first time today (on bare skin, mind you) I prefer the feel of hairspray as it doesn't feel like I've just sprayed on E45 moisturising cream. 🤔
Love it! This was a really fun video & very informative. I am actually surprised the Huda spray did as well as it did. I'd also like to know more about that hairspray---that stuff looks great!
If you gonna spray alcohol anyways: water + alcohol (and a good moisturizer beneath)... Here in Argentina is now the setting spray thing, a couple of years ago wasn't... so I got 3/4 water + 1/4 alcohol (or 2/3 water + 1/3 alcohol if you want a bit more alcohol in it) mixed... but not everyday...
I use hair spray for big events for my makeup. Keeps my eyebrows nice and my makeup snatched. I just use a great hydrating primer and moisturizer when I remove my makeup. Works great never noticed any skin problems and I have very sensitive skin
This takes me back to clubbing in early 20's and ballet when I was growing up when we used hairspray to set our makeup. I'll still use hairspray in a pinch to set because it works so well 😂
I used to use hairspray to set my Face when I worked in nightclubs it worked so well you do have to tuck the lips in and squint the eyes to be careful but it seriously does seem like overpriced hairspray
I'd imagine it wouldn't, as it does have at least one oil I saw in the ingredients, and it would be bloody expensive to use that way. Much cheaper and more effective to use the little kit the girls here have shown and used, can't remember the name but it's a little box with its own sifter grate and different sized bits for pressing different sized shadows/powders.
Now, how does the Huda spray work as a hairspray?

I think you guys are taking this WAAAYYYYY too literally. All it means is don't spray directly into the eyes (or mouth). Almost every type of spray or even powdered product has that warning, usually written as "not safe for internal use" which just means, don't taste it and don't spray it into your eyes.
Hairspray is an old, drag school tip 😘
Thanks for pointing out how bad denatured alcohol is for your skin.
I just got a kitten today (named Molly) and she is LOVING watching that makeup brush swish around. I think you got a new regular viewer.😜
im surprised about ur urban decay results! i worked for sephora and we used that demo all the time because it WORKED, makes me want to retry every setting spray with this test 🧐
Ben Nye finale seal is the undefeated setting spray. It’s straight magic!
When I use Green Marble spray I wear an old pair of sunglasses & press my lips together to avoid those areas. The alcohol content stings, but it really holds up well.
You’re my new hero. Green Marble kills if it gets in the eyes.
We need a montage of all the damage your arm has been through. SO MANY SWATCHES
Isopropyl alcohol can be used to remove paint from the skin. And not just craft paints, also the kind of paint that is applied to outdoor heavy machinery (like tractors etc.)
I’ve never been so tempted to buy hairspray before...
I think I can hear my skin screaming. 🤔
*HUDA: Shows amazing staying power using eyeshadow*
*Also HUDA: Don't use on eyes tho.*
*Me: 🤔*
Right... isn't that what we use setting spray for mainly anyways... I want the part of my makeup that I spent the longest blending out to stay good
@@bentlyluv1211 I'm only slightly better than trash at eyeshadow, so it takes forever unless I can just do a one-shade wash of colour. It's the hardest darn thing to have stay put too, especially with hooded lids!

Shadé Palmer omg exactly. i just feel like everyone is trying so hard to hate the product therefore taking label warning too seriously. ahah 🤦🏻♀️
@@shadypalmtree2989 Yes, obviously. Sad that we have to even tell adults not to eat or gaze into setting mist, but....I just find it weird that people would want to spray alcohol on their face in the first place.
💡💡💡
I wonder if i mixed my non aerosol hairspray with one of my setting sprays I'd get the best of both worlds.... or just face breakout
LMAO at 8:59 when I walked in and saw Hailey's baby arm. hahahaha
🤣
When you that old to remember the hairspray trick to set your make up....AND to shape your eyebrows with it.
‘She’s really wet” that’s what he said. 😝
WAPWAPWAP
Quick question. You've had the Desert Dusk for a while, are your mattes feeling exceptionally dry?
Also I've decided I love these re-creating videos.
Cat Daniel mine are dry!
Mine aren’t dry, they’re really smooth I love the formula.
Allie Glines said that her new nudes matte shadows got extremely dry after awhile... they still blended and worked on the eyes well though
Mine are not only dry, but almost a little gritty / lumpy? It's been like that since approx 6 months post opening
Only the shimmers are alive in mine. The mattes are dry and hardly apply on my lid :(
I use to use hairspray .... my grandma taught me that
Me too! I learned it as a stage actor. Nothing like a face full of Elnett.
I learned how to do stage makeup from my older sisters drama class before I learned how to do Day to day makeup. You bet I used hairspray. I still do for special occasions.
Ive always used hairspray to set my makeup, I prefer it to the face spray. You get 10x more, and for 10x cheaper!
just dont make your face 'wet'with it, just a light misting and walk into it, not directly on your face
Exactly! It’s not like regular setting sprays aren’t full of alcohol always. I’ve looked at the ingredients, they’re not all that different, depending on the product.
Anyone you specifically recommend?
@@effieboo9275 aerosol over 'spray', humidity control is a must, no specific brand but I always usually get Garnier 😁
Am I the only one who missed the swatching music?
The resting boss face works best sprayed onto a beauty blender and then pressed into the skin.
Back in the day, before setting sprays were a thing, the hair spray of choice was actually Aquanet. It use to come in a bottle but today’s’ aversion is a purple can with a white lid (super extra hold, I scented).
What is the deal with huda and her over scenting!
That's kind of hilarious... I wonder if the Huda spray is any better for your skin than hairspray. 😩
I can understand using it RARELY, for more important events, if you're a performer.
Loved this video... you girls are brilliant! And Kat, “that’s why people pass out...” so funny! 😂
Fcuk yes! So glad you tested this, I've been using hairspray to make ma face bulletproof for years (only on special occasions)
This was great! I would never use the shit, but I'm glad it does well. I used to use hairspray for show choir and theatre, lets not talk about that.
I used to use hairspray to set my makeup when I was still cheerleading 🤷🏼♀️ great for hot Friday nights

If you have dry skin and want to use it, just make sure you moisturize extremely well before and after.
its like the old lead based foundations, they work but they are bad for your skin. people knew they were poison but did it anyway.
Debunking or recreating marketing/claims videos are up there with my fav content from you ladies!
I love Kat's "YES" at the beginning of these videos. It's so genuinely excited and it gets me excited for the video :)
I’m not buying any setting spray that says avoid eyes and lips. Nope.
If you can't use it in you eyes then why test it on eye shadow?! Should have done foundation or blushes and highlighter
Huda also did the test on eyeshadows
You should make your own channel! It could be .... breaking up makeup breakup on beauty news.
Yes!! I've kinda been waiting for someone to test this; I heard Huda compared to hair spray almost every time it's been mentioned and I just needed to see the comparison!
Get in theerrrree! That actually does hold like crazy!
I'd love to see this with the skindinavia bridal setting spray!!!!!
Mehron make a product called "Makeup Barrier Spray" that smells like pure gasoline, but *really* works well. I'd be curious to compare ingredients with the Huda.
Great video 👌
LOL I was rooting for the hairspray !!! 😂😂😂😂
Is it possible you can check on Stay spray from Tarte? I wasn't expecting Huda actually worked
I wonder how well will the Huda Beauty one hold up as a hairspray 🤭
Someone did this same test but huda vs morphe setting mist and they were more or less the same result. Morphe setting mist is eye and lip safe though and you don't suffocate on fragrance also less than half the price and doesn't drench your face
I hairspray my beard so why not everywhere else.
I wonder if any of those beard care companies have beard hairspray. If not, someone should make a hair spray for beards that isn't damaging to skin.
Please do this with the morphe continuous setting spray
This is beautiful. You guys are so great, with your beauty investigations.
I know you said *not* to...but I mean...the proof is right on your arm! It even out performed Huda’s spray. With how hot and sweaty I get, if I need to wear makeup one of these days...sorry, guys...lol.
Thanks again for all you two do!
Can I clean my kitchen counters with the huda spray or not
as a dancer I still use hairspray to set my makeup on performance nights as I have not found anything that holds as well but I definitely do not use it everyday
I’m confused? You can’t use it near eyes, but they showed the test on eyeshadow? Am I missing something
Lol in my cheer days I sprayed my face with hairspray to keep my makeup on through all routines, games, and sweat
The shade in this video is unreaaal, you are so funny!
I think they mean you should spray it in a zigzag over your face. So not directly on your eyes but the product will still reach your eyes.
This brings me back to my days of dancing ten+ years ago, everyone used to spray their faces with hairspray to stop their makeup from melting on stage
Did anyone else notice the cotton pad peaking out during Huda’s wipe away? Pause video at 5:21. The white on the side of wiping hand isn’t skin...
Thank you for these wonderful videos! I really appreciate the two of you! Wishing you a wonderful day today filled with love and happiness💋
When you said "we don't recommend using hairspray." I was like I'm definitely going to use hairspray. Why bother buying 2 product when you can buy one and still have fantastic result?
Can u do more setting spray tests like this? It’s really helpful
I love how detailed your reviews are
Take it from a man who has worn make-up in HOT and sweaty clubs (and long-weekend gigs) for over two decades... 🤔
I have also used spray on sunscreen to set my makeup on occasion...you get the sun protection in addition to the alcohol for setting and cooling
Love it! This was a really fun video & very informative. I am actually surprised the Huda spray did as well as it did. I'd also like to know more about that hairspray---that stuff looks great!
I'm guessing it's fine on closed eyes. I wouldn't recommend spraying rubbing alcohol into your eyes or on your lips though.
I would NEVER use either; but LOVE you ladies!! Great test!
Wow, thats impressing!! I mean, i always tought my all nighter is hairspray for the face, but i saw your video and now this one, wow!
"do not use on eyes or lips"...so Huda demonstrates it on eyeshadows 😂
Hahaha we used hairspray to set our faces in dance. Good to know its better than some setting sprays!
Best Make Up Break Up video EVER!!
What setting sprays do you recommend???
In the 80s we sprayed so much hairspray on our hair that it inevitably coated our face so your makeup would be set in stone....♥️🇦🇺
Would the huda spray be good for repressing?
I'd imagine it wouldn't, as it does have at least one oil I saw in the ingredients, and it would be bloody expensive to use that way. Much cheaper and more effective to use the little kit the girls here have shown and used, can't remember the name but it's a little box with its own sifter grate and different sized bits for pressing different sized shadows/powders.
Have you already tried the kriolan setting spray? Please, do a bideo of that spray!
