IU is a special singer in South Korea, she's a bridge between kpop and more indie/ artistic part of k-music. She's also a bridge between fandoms and casual nusic fans/ general people. She has soooo many popular songs in S.Korea, but 2 most legendary are Good Day (2010) and this song Through The Night (2017). Through The Night is loved as "national lullaby" ....
In short, IU is a S.Korean darling, and she's a complete package, as she's loved bcs of her character, beauty, vocal, and lyrics.

You absolutely nailed it when you said she's a versatile singer. She has an entire album which is heavily inspired by Swing/Jazz. Over her career she's sung in quite a range of genres.

a song writer.. a producer.. model... donation angel.. she is a genius.. she sings from her heart.. even though there is a language barrier but you can feel her emotions whenever she sings..
IU is among the few artists who actually are better live… there are many live and concert versions of this, but MMA 2017 is unreal, paired with Dear Name, another classic… the performance is anchored by tribute to spirits of ferry disaster victims (to allay your confusion)
I loved the song eight from her Golden hour concert. This song was soft but the concert shows she can also belt it out plus another amazing song
IU is easily my favourite artist. Vocally she is incredible. I would really recommend checking out the video they put out of her singing Eight at her concert last year. The video is a mix of the 2 nights but the vocals are live

It was a big big surprised to find your IU reaction here. I’ve been following your reactions which are mostly nonkpop artists such as Dimash, Sohyang,Nightwish, Lara Fabian …those are enjoyable . However IU is my favorite artist from the beginning. For some reason, I found IU’s voice is so comforting and her lyrics is poetic and most related.

For korean idol, I only follow 3 out of hundreds or thousands of them. Soloist IU here who I always come to get soothing voice who comforts me most of the time, CNBLUE which a boy band where I come to hear some good voice and live version that always amaze me and give me an excitement. And MAMAMOO when I want a full vocal powers with great harmony to make me move.

I am thrilled you have now heard IU--she is an experience in herself. Her voice is healing for me. You can check out her recent DINGO Killing Voice for a medley of her songs where she sings live, including a snippet of this song. Her control and lovely voice shine. Her voice has the kind of beauty that is soul piercing; I find my eyes tearing up at times because it strikes me.
I usually listen to "Through the Night" and "Knee" back to back for Autumn. "Blueming" and "Lilac" together for Spring, "Bbi Bbi" and "Celebrity" also for fandom. They pair and compliment each other very well

This song is one of my favorite. The song is written by IU when she got sleeplessness issue. And you can feel how soft, light and warm when she sings this song. Yes, this song heals my insomnia , and also heal a lot of people's insomnia.

There come sometimes where you find yourself in a delicate situation when it comes to choose a favorite song; cause there are so many things that can bring up a song: the melody of course, the words, the rhythm, the structure, a solo, and so on. But sometimes we end up by having a choice that becomes the good one as we keep on listening to this song and soaking in it. It's like what you've always wanted for your life; you know it without knowing it, you've heard a voice without having heard it that has been telling you without having told you what will soothe to your soul; and you will not realize that until it happens. Music is something pure. I respect every song because there is a lot that has been going on in back ground inorder to make a song, so to speak. Music is one of the best way, if not the best,to express many things that people depend on, whether you like it or not; there are things you feel deep inside of you that can't be literally explained while talking... it's like the melody of an image, the perfume of a word, the expression of a silence, the power of the humility, and so on. But because of your love of music, a mere smile, but being at the same time overlaid with some virtue, like that of a kind hearted person, and a blushed face like that of a fascinated girl, can make everything comes clear in your head; and the rest can be history. Me, as a gospel and social song composer, when I take to composing a song I'm no black skin nor white skin; nationality is put aside, so is my profession inorder to be real; i mean the real me. IU is absolutely the real deal. I've seen her have to sing in the cold at 6am to karaoke tracks of her own songs for some ridiculous candid camera thing, and she (carefully) slayed straight through like a boss, including crazy high long notes at the end (after a mod). "25" from the Pretty Reckless. (I absolutely love Taylor Momsen's voice. Something about it makes me think of a modern Joan Jett). They have a lot of great songs, and I like them even more than Halestorm, which you've already reviewed and enjoyed.
"Scarborough Fair" as done by Colm McGuinness. He just released it. His Irish lilt is delightful, and he has some AMAZING power and vocal range to him. As a bonus, he generally plays all the instruments in his videos too.
