    I bought the Fishman KSE nearly one year ago for my Vigier Excalibur ( maple neck ). Only playing with the ceramic inbridge, It was just ok for me but the full open chords were not ok and i had less sustain than my previous TB5 pickup. I just switched to the Alnico KSE in bridge, and this sounds amazing ! Way more sustain , more note definition on my low C ( drop C Tuning ) and the chords sounds perfect, the feeling is so great, you cant go wrong with this pickup. In this video its hard to hear the difference, you have to test it in real tube amp, there is a noticable difference

  • @chrisalivandertuuk5110
    @chrisalivandertuuk5110 6 лет назад +8

    The ceramic sounded better to me by far. Sound exploded from the speakers. More clarity. Keep those and boost the lows on your amp. Or take the presence down if you want a more rounded top end.

    In this comparison, it's the same as I find with Seymour Duncan pickups. I much prefer Ceramic for metal tone, and Alnico for clean tone. The Killswitch IMO was the least good in both DI and Distorted. I don't really like the amp sound though, so it made judging the sound a bit more difficult. The Ken Suzi demo of the Fluence Modern is a selling point!

      @Tesco home brand pork sausage elitist I just put these in my prs dustie waring and i have to say the devin townsend set is the best set of pickups ive ever had. its true what you say as far as the 'standard' sounds, his main humbucker is close to the fluence modern which is just fine, but when you use the push pull knobs, you can create all kinds of voices with it, (single coil, etc) its pretty amazing. the straight up sound is insane, its active pickup power with a little of that mushy warmth but at the same time its tone for days, open sounding for a pickup so powerful. im blown away, before this the emg 57 was my fav, but the fishmans annihilate it in my humble opinion. GREAT sounding pickups for a heavy guitar player

    • @dreammachine86
      @dreammachine86 2 года назад

      @@yeboyi28 It's cool that you're aware of the coil-tap/single coil option of the Fluence Modern/Classic. I literally only found out a few days ago when looking at the wiring diagrams. Interesting that the single coil option is not really advertised by Fishman and guitars that use the Moderns seem to not be setup for coil-tap - as opposed to the voice switching that is prominently promoted and setup on guitars with those pickups.
      I'm drawn to the Javier Reyes signature myself as they have very distinctive voices and the coil-tap is part of the artist's preferred setup and has its own voice - 'voice 3'. It seems like they can be setup to provide a huge amount of options - the coil used for the coil-tap can be chosen, individually for each pickup if desired. So if someone was happy to have more controls on the guitar (knobs / mini-switches etc.) it would seem possible to have voice 1/voice2/voice 3 inner single coil/voice 3 outer single coil selectable individually for each pickup. Combined with a 3-way switch and possibly even separate volumes for each pickup, could do some interesting things like being able to choose both inner coils, or the bridge humbucker in more aggressive active voice blended with outer single coil of the neck pickup.
      I'm planning on getting a 7 string for my next guitar - looking at the Schecter Hellraiser. Already has EMGs stock so having not played EMGs before I'll see how I get on with them, and then decide if i want to change to the Fluence. The Hellraiser already has separate volume knobs for each pickup that are both push-pull so I was thinking of using those for the voice 1/2 switch. But I'd want to add an overall master volume knob - and make that push-pull to activate bridge pickup at maximum volume. I read Guthrie Govan had a switch that did this on his signature Suhr - would be quite handy to be able to quickly switch to this regardless of what has been chosen with the other controls. Then I'd add two 3-way mini switches that would control the single coil voice for each pickup: off/coil-tap inner coil/coil tap outer coil (I'm aware that would override any voice1/voice 2 humbucking selection). Finally would keep the 3 way switch for bridge/neck/both. The Hellraiser also has a tone knob that I'd keep stock - unless I found the high frequency tilt option useful in which case push-pull on the tone knob could activate that. Would have to check out some demos of the high frequency tilt first. I think all of this would give me a huge amount of creative control on the guitar itself. Just wonder if that would be a very complex wiring setup to implement - would possibly need a guitar electrical expert to handle the installation. I can follow some electronics diagrams and terminology myself but I don't understand a number of aspects of even the artist's preferred wiring scheme and my setup idea sounds even more complex.

    I love fisherman. Ive been playing EMGs, BUT I have been looking into some fisherman pickups. The killswitch engage ones before hearing them I knew weren't gonna have as much of a low end bass sound to them, because killswitch is more trebs and mids to hit a more harmonic sound, especially with leads.

    • @michaelinglis8516
      @michaelinglis8516 6 лет назад +1

      Ryan Bruce The HF tilt option can be grounded to any ground to activate it and have it in always on mode. Most people who use it including me would say it warms up your tone. Honestly I keep going back and forth cause I literally think if I could get right in between having it grounded ( on ) and having it off then it would be perfect. Not too warm not to hi fi. But from what I've seen on the forums most people like me prefer it always on for a warmer tone. I'm using the Stephen Carpenter set that I installed into his signature model that was a little cheaper without the fluence pups included the sc-207. Overall I'm happy with them though. I'm playing through my marshall DSL100HR pretty much 99% of the time now at home and into my micro terror if I'm playing out. The pups do much better in the marshall but it's like comparing watermelons to blueberrys obviously the watermelon sized marshall with 4 power tubes an 4 preamp tubes/gain stages is gonna sound better then a micro terror with one 12ax7 lol. But the micro terror holds its own with these pups more so than you'd think.

  • @cullenjames7542
    @cullenjames7542 6 лет назад +2

    The alnico seems to sit further down in the mix, if that makes sense. To my ears it gets a little lost. The ceramic and Killswitch Engage pups seemed to be more distinctive. I have two sets of the Modern Humbuckers (ceramic bridge/alnico neck) and I really like them, but I'm not playing in a band environment. I also have a Devin Townsend set and I think you should give them a try as well. They're ceramic, but have a distinct quality.

I'd like to know how much effort it was to upgrade the guitar as I'm having an eye on those pickups. Are there any other pickups you'd recommend? I'm more of a punk/HC guy but tend to shred as extreme as I can and lean towards metal/nu metal sound wise but like to stay versatile for reasons. Just kidding but having a good clean tone here n there is always nice. BTW I left a sub. \m/

    Fluff, dude. Would you be willing to try one of my pedals and give me some feedback if I send you one? You don't need to do a video review.
    Also, I hail from South Africa. The community here is small. I'd value your opinion

    I'm planning on getting new pick-ups for my guitar and these Fishman's are definately on my radar. I could use some advice. I play in a progrock/metal band with some djenty stuff (in drop C tuning) and I also play all the ambient stuff on top of it (since I have the most effect pedals and I find it easier to combine with vocals). Would the Ceramics be any good for that top end stuff? Or would you (or anyone) advise some other pick-ups as well? Like, Bareknuckles, Seymore Duncans, EMG's etc. I currently have the EMG Hetfield's in my guitar and I'm not too fond of them. :)

      If you're ever in a situation where you want good cleans(particularly single coil sound) go for KSE, Tosin, Devin, Open Core Classics or Keith Merrow sets. Every pickup has a higher and lower output humbucker voicing with differing levels of compression and EQ as well as a single coil voicing.
      For what it's worth the KSE, Tosin and Devin sets have "active" voicings based on the EMG 81. Mind you plenty of EMG 81 "haters" have claimed to love those pickups. The Open Core Classics sound like a refined JB and the Merrow set sounds like a refined Nazgul.

    Alnico sounds rounder.
    Ceramic has more top-end cut.
    Killswitch is tighter

    distorted, I couldn't hear any difference. Clean, it was obvious/ Good review :) . For me then, it would be Ceramic for my explorer, and alnico for my superstrat with a floyd.

    Active Pickups seem to fix a lot of the finicky-ness of passive pickups while adding some versatility, but I’ve only ever seen people play full-on Death Metal with them. Are Active pickups also good for Blues or Rock genres?

      The band Down has a guitar player using a 81/85 EMG set and it sounds very buttery.. I personally would suggest trying a EMG 60 in the neck and you can get those classic blues tones.
