I liked this video I don’t know how many years ago. It just showed up on my home page. I watched again. I can’t like again so I’m giving you a standing ovation. Bravo!
You keep the rhythm flow running like Neil himself. You have this smooth falsetto like Neil himself. You play those embellishments like Neil himself. This is WAY better than I expected, so I subscribed and give you a big uplike!
Jeff: I'm an old hippie or hippo (I'm open to interpretation). You have that subtle attention to timing and cadence that is so rare. I believe one can only get it by truly feeling and expressing a song form their soul. The percussive effect, rhythm and groove is truly musical. You must have hard nails made of granite to get such a clear tone without a pick. I'm basically a harmonica player but I do play guitar and sing (not as well as you). Very well done. If you will excuse me now, I have to go and get some sort of salve to get rid of the goose bumps.
I haven't used a pick in years and have a similar style of play. I hold a pick way to loose for acoustic guitar. Electric I use a pick. But with the acoustic I thing you have more control of the acoustic without a pick. Able to do so much more subtle nuances when you get rid of the pick
I have two condenser mics out front running to the PC. A little reverb, compression, panned left and right. The guitar is unplugged and I'm singing into an old Peavey PA head. Thanks a lot
Another NY cover done insanely well by Jeff! You are really good, bravo! What's amazing is you are such a great guitar player but, heck, you can even sing in NY range.
I dont know what to say. Terrific, outstanding, wonderful, glorious, incredible, beautiful, fantastic, etc.... The guitar sounds great and so does your voice. And your ability to record it so well really paid off! Thanks for a great 5 minutes.
Absolutely beautiful, Jeff. I’ve long been a fan of your NY covers and this one is especially lovely. You get right on the inside of the delicacy in these early numbers of NY’s, and keep all of their drive and punch as well. There’s something about the whole feel of this song which comes right out of the hippy movement’s glory days and yet has that special touch of personal revelation about it which made NY’s reputation what it is. You’ve done it full justice. Thank you.
Thx for tech dope Jeff. My view Micing acoustic guitar only way to get big, deep, broad, sound an texture I'm hearing thru my phones. I also like how ur set-up captures percussive part of ur performance. U go man. Gonna hunt more of ur stuff.
Thank you Thistles! It is double dropped D but I first dropped tuned the guitar a whole step. So it's really like double dropped C. This guitar handles the low tuning pretty well without getting too sloppy sounding. Thanks again
Just now seeing this, but see originally posted in 2010. I'm a Neil Young fan, listen to a lot of covers, and I dig this! Great version of this classic. The natural and full sound on both the guitar and vocals is awesome. May be wrong, but that looks like it could be a Blueridge guitar - regardless, it sounds incredible. Hope you're doing well in 2021!
@joshandjerryshow1 That's great to hear, love the Carter Stanley model. Almost got one instead of this 240. I'll check out Frank. Thanks for being a fan. I appreciate it! Jeff
Yo Jeff came across you whilst I was searching out EASTMAN GUITARS and came across the tune "Some Years Ago" which is an absolute BEAUTY and which you used the same tuning as "The Loner" which seem yo give the strings a very loose relaxed sound.... You Got a Great Style Bro.... RESPECT 🙏
Terrific stuff, Jeff!! Ur guitar, it's a Blueridge is'nt it? i havent seen one up close, but it sounds really good. Thanx for posting, mate, great cover!! Take care, John
I'm not educated enough on tuning, but yours sounded like one of Neil's off tuning. This was a very nice cover. The vibe was that I would like to sit in my living room and sing with you.

Well done!
This is excellent and the sound is perfect
Best version of The Loner ever Love the spare hammer ons when u come down to the D Ur Blueridge sounds incredible.

That's about as good as you can sing and play that song if your name isn't Neil Young.
Neil . . . pay close attention!
