  • Some kind of holy grail recently came out. A soundboard from the Mama Tour. It misses the second half of the concert, so there is only the first 80 minutes,which came out.
    Still, a great performance and i am gonna upload a few other songs from that gig too.

    Steve and Daryl are just different.
    Get over it.
    I’m just grateful the band existed as long as it did.

      Daryl was a super talented and loyal band member on the road. II cannot understand why anybody would bash him.

    Since Phil was "keeper of the tapes," and is said to possess a soundboard copy of damn near every Genesis show (and his own, doubtlessly, and probably Brand X, and God-knows-what-else), I like to think he's leaking a few bits like this here and there on his own to see what gets picked up.

    It's the bass that stands out for me.

  • @matthewimi

    Ok, love this!!
    What I hear is, of course, Phil's drumming. Specifically, an exact mix of licks he put down in 77, 82, & 92 during "Firth of Fifth." It's weird - like a splicing of all three tours.
    Darryl's guitar, vs Steve's? It's really simple. It's the difference between not just the styles but the dramatic difference of a "fender" & a "Gibson Les Paul."

    Friday 11/11/83 at the Rosemont Horizon. I was there and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.
    Genesis played 3 nights and when they came back in '86 I think they played the Horizon 5 nights.

      actually it was 6 nights. I was at the last one in Chicago. Sunday through Friday.

      I was there as well - Rosemont indeed. I was also at the August 1982 show at Poplar Creek - that was a killer show, too (Three Sides Live tour). I also saw 3 of the 1986 Rosemont shows (night #1, night #6 and one of the shows in between). Remember Mike Rutherford’s father died the day of show #6 and there was a rumor going around town that the show would be cancelled?

    I was at this show. It was at The Rosemont Horizon (now known as The AllState Arena) - literally across the street from Chicago O’Hare Int’l Airport (ORD) - on a bad night you could hear planes taking off & landing during a show, but not this night! Thx for the upload!

    The whole Daryl/Steve thing is like arguing about chalk and cheese, however, you can almost hear the band loosening the shackles that they felt had kept them pinned in a certain area of music for a number of years. This was audibly demonstrated with joke, 'non-songs' like Whodunnit and moments like this where Daryl was given free reign to do what he wanted. Not to everyone's taste, but then no genuine artist from any sphere does anything just to please an audience and in fact, in some cases they almost have to tell the audience to piss off if that audience seeks to pigeon-hole them. It's the nature of the beast I'm afraid....

      I miss Steve nowadays as a listener, but at least the keyboards of Tony Banks still shined on.

      I have to say I loved Daryl's performances of 3 sides live UK one for the Vine and Fountain of Salmacis, also Ripples in 1978. Daryl isn't Hackett but he's a great musician and anyway Steve left of his own accord and he's still giving us treats of old Genesis now.

  • @illegalalien2
    @illegalalien2  11 лет назад +2

    That's true, indeed there was a second medley. And to be exactly, there was the "Turn It on Again" Medley as well, so they played 3 medleys on this tour.
    This show here from Chicago was posted on the website "WolfgangsVault" and they are only listing the first 80 minutes of the show. But there are 2 radio broadcasts from the Mama tour from Philaldephia and Los Angeles, and both of them contain the second medley with In The Cage/Cinema Show/In That Quiet Earth ...etc, gonna upload it later :)

      11th Earl > Lamb > Firth > MB was the medley for the 1984 leg of the tour...

    • @IanMcGrath70
      @IanMcGrath70 10 дней назад

      The rehearsal video from a few weeks earlier, they do the whole first half of 11th Earl of Mar instead of just the opening signature Melody. Otherwise it’s the same medley.

    Notice Tony Banks can't trigger the octave setting on the lead synth in time for Firth of Fifth, making this the first time since 1977 he played this lead part with no octaves, and the last time to do so. Still a nice lead synth sound.

    Must agree with some of the other comments here in that this was not one of the better Genesis old medleys. However, that in no way discounts from the fact that Genesis were probably one of the best bands in the world, ever.
