  • Hello friends! In today's video, I wanted to show you these extensive alterations I made! My customer fell in love with the material and print of these pants but hated the drawstring elastics. He also had another pair of trousers that he loved the elevated haute-couture waistband. So I told him I could mimic the waistband of his trousers using the material of a second copy of the pants he liked. Then with the original, I turned it into a pair of shorts with the athletic drawstring!

      @@DowntownTailoring . I sat as a child by my Grandma as she worked on bridal gowns. She worked alongside side so many talented & never recognized seamstresses & tailors for the fashion houses. The trousers remind me of their work. The stitched beautiful items from scraps & thensome. In truth, your work reminds me of a trouser mid 80's from Calvin Klein. Sad to say, the items being offered to the masses are not want it use to be. Again, I respect your work. I wished Grandma had shared your knowledge with me, they demanded schoolwork.

    I just did very similar wool dress pants for a client. He was 94 years old. I needed to take them from a 32 waist to a 38. He owns many name hand made wool suits. They are amazing how the hand stitching was done with supreme excellence. Including original tailor tack from original patterning. They came out perfect. Quality makes such a difference. Thank you for reinforcing my techniques.

    Laughing so loud about losing the zipper pull! It happened to me a few months ago and boy was I super mad about it. Hoping I learned my lesson and it doesn't happen again. I never thought about putting safety pins... that is very smart! These pants turned out great and I love that you made shorts with the second pair and the drawstring is casual, which makes it so nice for summer shorts with a white tee. In this case, a very expensive white tee because the material of these pants is absolutely lovely and so high end.

    Those look as good as if they came from the factory, I wouldnt have even thought something like this would have been possible.
    Do you think you can show how you made the side adjusters? There's 0 information out there about how to make them. I tried reverse engineering some on a pair of RTW belt loop pants with decent results, but its always nice to see a professional process on how its done since I'm sure im making some points needlessly overly complicated.

    I loved your previous video on how to set your prices as a business, but that seemed geared more towards regular services. Since this was very much a custom job, I’m very curious to know how much you charged the customer. Surely he paid as much as (or more!) for your skilled work as he paid for the pants themselves in the first place?
    Were you able to estimate how long it would take beforehand to give him an estimated price? Or was this customer insistent on getting what he wanted regardless of the cost?

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  Год назад +2

      Hi Michael, thank you so much for your kind words! I basically divided the job by items, for example 3 buttonholes, 1 belt loop, 1 pocket, 4 straps, etc.
      I already have a price set for each of those items and I just added everything up. To confirm, yes it cost as much as a third pair because they already had their prices set. To answer tour question, the customer didn't think it twice and he was very happy when he came to pick up. But other customers have asked for similar jobs and they found it way too expensive, so some do it but some don't. Hope this helps!
