    Natural oil seepage in the Channel off Santa Barbara gave the Chumash a material for caulking planks together to make canoes. this tar enabled this construction and was never known to the Polynesians or any other peoples.

    San Clemente Island is the southern most island (not in the northern most).

    Bear shamans might just have been jimsonweed addicts. The Chumash are not well depicted in efforts like this.
