"but i reach for the goblin green" you chose.............wisely The knights of eternity, i had never heard of, have a really nice colour scheme on them it seems.
The longer I stare at that Ultramarine the more I'm convinced he's just a cartoon character deadpanning at the audience after something heavy fell on his head. Also, to me the Lamenter looks to be keeping the skull has a reminder of why they fight, but the idea that he uses the skull of a brother for advice and orders is a fun idea. Lovey job on all three by the way.
That ultramarine looks absolutely badass, I’ve never seen that sculpt I love it! This is one of my new favorite channels I love the aesthetic of older Warhammer minis
I really like how you link the devestator marine’s basing in with his squad designation. Often bolter marines don’t feel like they fit a devestator squad vibe - but by creating the impression he has been stood firing in one place for quite some time you overcame that.
"Very space, much marine" I just about spit out my beer I was drinking! A vintage meme for vintage miniatures. Exceptional video; gorgeous minis, wonderful and achievable paintjobs, and a lovely trip down memory lane. What more could one ask for? And the fact that you gave such an obscure Chapter as the Knights of Eternity a bit of love is truly commendable, their sacrifice was not in vain.
How have I only just found this channel??? Retro painting is my favourite RUclips content. Your painting videos and battle reports are just beautifully made! I subscribed after watching this video then binge watched the rest of the videos over two days! Brilliant content
Beautiful paintjobs on these miniatures, Was a joy to watch. Got a nice wave of nostalgia looking at these older models and remembering my own from back then. You've inspired me to go to my desk and do some painting.
I appreciate these videos, and also how you bring in the background details of what you are painting. Mentioning the bold move to board a hive ship with scouts is an awesome one
Beautifully painted! Can't wait for the battle report. (Also i know its stock music, but its so funny hearing the Arbitorian "theme music" out of context on another warhammer channel!)
Another fantastic informative video Ed.I love the Goblin Green base and Ultramarines suit that base more than any other chapter I feel so good choice on that. Can’t wait for the narrative battle report now ❤
3 great looking Marines! Really enjoyed the background and fluff that went with each one, would love to see more like this. (The goblin green base just looks correct….)
Hey just wanted to reach out and say I love your channel. It really captures the zeitgeist of what I experienced as a kid discovering Warhammer. My foray into it started with stumbling into the GW store at the mall with a massive poster of the 3rd edition 40k art. Your videos have such a nostalgic and evocative quality to them that perfectly relay the magic of that era of Warhammer. Keep on good sir!
That's very kind of you! Zeitgeist is one of my favourite words and I'm so pleased that these videos capture those memories for you. Thank you for sharing and for the comment. 😎
Is anyone else reminded of Wilfrid from the Bash Street Kids when they see this era of MkVIII power armour? And did anyone else go "that's the Arbitor Ian tune!" at the appropriate moment? 🙂
Great video. Love the vintage look. Unrelated. It’s a magazine, not a clip. If you did that on purpose to get people to engage more, congrats you got me lol.
Exceptionally inspiring as usual. Been wanting to get my hands on one of theese Mk VIII for some time. Love the paint schemes, as period as the models.
Excellent work! I like how there is background music for each figure, nice touch! These look like they came right out of the 2nd edition Space Marine Codex!
Thanks so much! I'm good thanks - appreciate the channel has been quiet for a while now, but I haven't been idle! Something exciting is in the works...
The idea of the pink undercoat is that red+yellow is orange, and pink+yellow is light orange. And dark yellow is mustardy or greeny if you don't push it orange, so a light orange looks like a dark warm yellow. You essentially get the cassandora yellow wash (which is actually a light orange) in the recesses for free
Great work again Ed, that VHS clip of the Tyranid warrior is horrific looking, I liked all three paint jobs but the knights of eternity kicks ass mate well done🤟👍
This was my first episode on your channel a couple weeks ago. I first put it on to be background noise and intended to listen at 1.5x speed, but quickly learned to really enjoy each installment on this channel. Truly top shelf work.
I imagine that Ultramarine standing outside the devestated ruins of Ichar IV primary hive, looking over a sea of Tyranid corpses containing everything from gaunts to Bio-Titans, then glanicng over to the broken remains of a Hive Cities defences and muttering to no one in particular, 'Damn, that was close!'
The yellow-over-pink is actually to do with CMYK colour theory - the pink you're using is better thought of as magenta, and in CMYK when you mix magenta and yellow you get orange. So, yellow over pink gives smooth orange-y shadows. Dana Howl has a video about it, really blew my mind and opened up a lot of new ideas for mini painting!
Your videos have been quite nifty and I really like seeing that slightly silly and vibrant look from before my time. It's really fun and so I found some older Thousand Sons models to give it a go.
Love it! Love the technique you used for the Knight of Eternity. Also we gave you a shout out in our first podcast episode. You channel is so inspiring. Thank you!!!!
I had never before noticed that some of the old sculpts had stocks on the bolters. Like some sort of practical firearm that could actually be shouldered and aimed properly. I mean honestly, what kind of beakie doesn't have a bolter that can only be fired from the hip like an 80's action hero?
Heck yeah! There was no real way of modelling a marine with the stock still attached though, as the pauldron would get in the way. I shortened the stock in this video and just about got it to fit.
You know sir I would almost always say that the color blue that you use would be too light, but with the finished product it looks amazing you've made a Believer out of me. Excellent workmanship sir. Keep up the good work
Ahem! Could we please refrain from dissing goblin green bases! 😄 Seriously though Ed, stunning work! 🙂 Always going to love these trips back to the early 90s mate 👍
I was trying really hard not to do the “uh, actually that’s not a clip” Comment… But that’s not a clip, it’s a magazine. (The difference being a clip is a thin piece of metal that holds several rounds of ammunition together to be inserted into a weapons internal magazine. A magazine is an enclosed “box” containing a spring, which can be internal or detachable - as is the case with the bolt gun, that houses a number of rounds of ammunition that are fed directly into the chamber of the weapon.) also the “casing” of the Bolt gun would be the “receiver” There, OCD is appeased. I’ll be able to sleep tonight. I’d love to see your take on an Aurora chapter marine in the future!
I actually really appreciate comments like this. Thanks for bringing me up to speed - I always assumed that they were interchangeable but now I know! ☺️
I prefer the retro bases personally. It reminds me of the cartoon/hammy origins of 40k. I feel like 40k has got to gritty and 'realistic' in its texturing and colour schemes. It feels less fun these days.
I've watched this video several times, The background music is fantastic and he as a good voice for narration. I like the focus on older models. A great video all around. I would like to know what music this is
Really great channel, gotta love your painting session and battle reports, lots of great ideas and advice I put to use on some space crusade minis! :) Would you mind telling us which track was used while painting the ultramarine? I really liked it Cheers!
"but i reach for the goblin green"
you chose.............wisely
The knights of eternity, i had never heard of, have a really nice colour scheme on them it seems.
The goblin green seemed fitting, after all it was the style of the time ;-)
@@maddlarkin darn tooting :)

silly base?! SILLY BASE?! Inconceivable!
Bahah! Hey - I went through with it though, didn't I?! :)
That ultramarine looks absolutely badass, I’ve never seen that sculpt I love it!
This is one of my new favorite channels I love the aesthetic of older Warhammer minis
I love these videos man
Thanks champ!
Lamenter Spotted, LET’S GOOOO

Hahaha thanks so much. Glad that took you by surprise. ☺️
Mate I remember those accurate painting days of the Halcyon era. Awesome work 😃👍👍
Awesome! The Knight of Eternity in particular looks really cool, you don't really see much of those guys
Thanks! Yeah it's a brilliant scheme!
How have I only just found this channel??? Retro painting is my favourite RUclips content. Your painting videos and battle reports are just beautifully made! I subscribed after watching this video then binge watched the rest of the videos over two days! Brilliant content
The way you describe every marine’s pose makes me think of the love and care
Superb vintage paint tutorial. The retro style paint schemes look fantastic. Hearing the back stories for each Marine was cool too.
Bill
Loving the retro style there's just something about them. Job well done. Also extra kudos for the use of the word pants😊
Pants was putting it mildly.
That is exactly how I paint my Lamenters I wouldn't paint yellow without contrast anymore. Brilliant paint job.
Yeah that technique is a revelation.
Beautiful paintjobs on these miniatures, Was a joy to watch. Got a nice wave of nostalgia looking at these older models and remembering my own from back then. You've inspired me to go to my desk and do some painting.
I love seeing these retro paint schemes.
Good work.
Also, I would love to see a future video about the Scythes of the Emperor.
I appreciate these videos, and also how you bring in the background details of what you are painting. Mentioning the bold move to board a hive ship with scouts is an awesome one
Brass balls on the Scythes scout marines that's for sure 😁
My new favorite channel. I love this retro content. Reminds me of old Midwinter Minis a bit.
The old Midwinter from before Guy abandoned his wife and children?
Beautifully painted! Can't wait for the battle report. (Also i know its stock music, but its so funny hearing the Arbitorian "theme music" out of context on another warhammer channel!)
Thanks so much! Oh yeah 'Black Rainbows' is a great tune!
Fast becoming one of my favourite Warhammer channels!
Wow, thanks!
Thanks! BIG inspiration for my up and coming Tyrannic War Vets themed Ultramarines for my Leviathan Box
Ah glorious! That'll be a sight to behold.
Im regularly surprised by old models Ive never seen before. That mk8 at ease is cool, I'll have to find one now.
Good luck!
Another fantastic informative video Ed.I love the Goblin Green base and Ultramarines suit that base more than any other chapter I feel so good choice on that. Can’t wait for the narrative battle report now ❤
You and me both mate! Thank you for the kind words.☺️
Your painting style makes me smile.
Love these videos, high quality retro painting but seemingly not out of reach or an insane amount of time spent on one knee pad
3 great looking Marines! Really enjoyed the background and fluff that went with each one, would love to see more like this. (The goblin green base just looks correct….)
Love the Lamenter, great model and paint job!
This is a beautiful way to spend a evening. Well played that man!
Excellent work! The figures look great. Thanks for sharing this.
RUclips notification failed me this time, awesome video! All the Space Marines came out amazing. You always make it look easy!
"just a shame about the base" ... good sir, i must insist you take that back! Goblin green is correct!
Brilliant painting as always! I really like your basing techniques too!!
Loved this video. I know it is my nostalgia but I think nothing beats the classic miniatures.
I have to agree!
Those look great.
Always like hearing the backstory of each minis history and Chapter's they come from.
Where are these minis from? They are amazing!!
Jes Goodwin sculpts from 93/94. Lovely designs! You can see the whole catalogue if you Google Solegends.
The Ultramarine on that blue background legit looks like it came out of a white dwarf or a chapter approved painting guide
This video is cool because I just painted a beaky tactical marine lamenter yesterday!

Not deliberate - but now I know the difference! 😊
Exceptionally inspiring as usual. Been wanting to get my hands on one of theese Mk VIII for some time. Love the paint schemes, as period as the models.
Thanks so much. Mkviii is a really strong look.
I love Mark 8 Marine armor. They should’ve just made primaris marines a new wave of mark 8 armored marines instead.
So weird to see old models painted with modern techniques, but also cool!
A beautiful video. Your videos really hit that nostalgia part of my brain and the music is just *chefs kiss* perfect.
This content is great man, keep up the good work
I also love that Mk8 sculpt. Also the one with a mace
Very space... much marine.
Wow.
You reached for the goblin green because you knew it was superior to any gritty base you would otherwise make
This channel is awesome! I can't wait for the battle report!
Coming soon!
Really enjoyable - looking forward to the campaign vid also!
Should be out next week!
As always, fantastic video.
Excellent work! I like how there is background music for each figure, nice touch! These look like they came right out of the 2nd edition Space Marine Codex!
Thanks Max! High praise 😊
Very cool work; especially the freehand chapter symbol.
Thanks Euan!
I really enjoy this ...
Overall excellent painting sir. You make me want to paint even Space Marines. That's coming from a longtime guard, Tao, and orc painter and player
Amazing videos, keep them coming!
Incredible work

There's nothing grimmer than a well maintained tyranid lawn. Every blade of grass trying to eat ur feet
the skulls name is gary
All true.

Very cool. Ive always been fascinated by Ichar IV and the campaign GW ran for it. I must track that WD down...

Awesome! Thank you! Love your show!
Great paint jobs, your videos are always great to watch
Thank you! Cheers!
the pose of the ultramarine makes me think he is looking down at the ruined battlefield after a grusome battle
I had never before noticed that some of the old sculpts had stocks on the bolters. Like some sort of practical firearm that could actually be shouldered and aimed properly.

You know sir I would almost always say that the color blue that you use would be too light, but with the finished product it looks amazing you've made a Believer out of me. Excellent workmanship sir. Keep up the good work
Thanks very much! I wonder if it has something to do with the smaller scale of the mini - might not translate on a larger (primaris) marine.
That Mk8 guy is so cool. Unfortunately, went to find one and they are unobtanium.
Wish I could paint my models this well
Ahem! Could we please refrain from dissing goblin green bases! 😄 Seriously though Ed, stunning work! 🙂 Always going to love these trips back to the early 90s mate 👍
Thanks mate! 😊
Great video by the way where or how did you get the model they are phenomenal
Are we really not talking about the turtle ultramarine?
That mk8 is too cool. Does anyone know where the model is from or what its called exactly?
Love the paint job would love to see you paint more obscure chapters
I have quite a few metal marines knocking around with no real purpose, so I may just do that!
@@edpaintsminis would love too see a flesh eater or sons of medusa
Dude, love your content. Stick on your vids when I paint to keep the mood chill.
Thanks buddy!
Awesome man!
Rhys awesome. Honesty though I’d like to see more scenario based battle reports.
wanted that mk8 marine for years but never could find him
Epic vid!
awesome work!
When you put the guys in your blue gray lightbox it looks straight up like a White Dwarf pic
what models are these? I love how these came out!
Space marines sculpted by Jes Goodwin from about 1994. Check out Solegends for pdfs of the Citadel catalogues. 😊
I was trying really hard not to do the “uh, actually that’s not a clip”

The lamenters are the Waspinator of the 40k Universe, the universe straight up hates the lamenters
