    I have a 400 (1st bike), and everything ole Yammie says in this video is 100% fact. Starting off it was forgiving and taught me the basics and now since I'm more seasoned I get a good laugh out of slicing my friends' (they all have supersports) heads off by gapping them in the twisties. So do yourself a favor, cop the 400, develop the skill, and you'll thank yourself later for not becoming a straight line only bozo.

    Best bike ever made - fact! Had mine for nearly two years now and struggling to let go for an upgrade. It does everything you could ever need except pull your arms off. Great city bike (I live in Tokyo), but does a splendid job of touring the mountains and gunning through the twisties. Just lacks that punch from around 70-80 kph (which is the speed limit here anyway). Still the best bike ever made ;-)

    Been riding my Ninja 400 2022 for more than a year now. All I can say is that it's very very easy to modify to your comfort, taste, etc. Don't like the long throttle throw? Swap it out with an R6 throttle tube(barely need to modify any thing in the throttle assembly). Not too sporty? Give it a rear set or a footpeg riser. Go lower your handle bars while you're at it. Need a phone charger for a long ride, you can add that as well, there's even a slot of the usb socket ready for you. Not saying you can't do those things with other bikes but for the n400 it's simply way cheaper and the way the bike is built, it readily accepts a lot of modifications to make the bike look and run the way you want it to. And you get the big 4 Japanese brand reliability. Also not saying it's the perfect beginner bike but it's definitely one of the best you can get as a beginner.

    • @daebak7370

      It's the perfect beginner bike and quite frankly one of the most enjoyable overall.

  • @petezny4343
    @petezny4343 Год назад +91

    Yep! I've been riding for over 45 years and I have owned about 30 motorcycles, including a Ninja 250 and two Ninja 300s. I just picked up a Z400 to do a few rookie track days, it joins a KTM890 Adventure and a KLX300 in the garage. The Z400 and it's nearly identical twin the Ninja 400 are the perfect motorcycles. The jump from 300 to 400cc and the refinements to the chassis really make this bike. The 300s were always just a tad lacking in power and felt a little skittish especially in an area where people are doing 75 mph on secondary roads. The 400 finally has the Goldilocks displacement, a beginner can learn on it and not have to trade up for any reason short of touring capability and an experienced rider can go out and have a blast and not feel "exposed" when playing with the SUV's on the highway. And I paid $5,500 out the door for the Z400, really, the 3 bikes in my garage cost less than a GS1250 and I get to select my weapon of the day! I love these bikes and I think they hit such a sweet spot of price, performance, usability and fun factor that everyone should own one.

I have full exhaust, velocity stacks, MWR air filter and full tune not to mention a ton of visual upgrades. I’m able to keep up with some of the Harley baggers and surprise them to. No issues keeping up with 600’s either. They have excellent reliability, easy to Work in, great gas mileage and insurance is super cheap. So this is a keeper for me.

    What I’ve noticed abt the 400 series from Kawasaki is that their clutch is so incredibly light. It’s so effortless to downshift while rev matching. My r3 is a bit less forgiving however, what I don’t like abt the 400 series (I’ve ridden both the z400 and the ninja) is that their friction zone from what I’ve noticed doesn’t bite very aggressively/fast. I guess that’s fine for the standard beginner (me), but what I love abt the r3 is how easy it is how the clutch bites in.

    9:50 That's how I know Yammie's still in Racer/Track mode lol. I don't think a beginner rider should start with the Q5S when the Q5S usually needs tire warmers while even the Q5 doesn't. Even though I started on a CBR 300R, I always recommend this bike as the perfect starter!

    • @mhoeij
      @mhoeij Год назад +1

      It's the other way around. The Q5S is the Street version, it doesn't need tire warmers. The Q5 is the track version.

    The ninja 400 is such a superior and versatile motorcycle that comes at such a great value/price. I don't know of much bikes that can give you the value, performance, and ergonomics as the ninja 400. I bought mine last year brand new for less than $6K after taxes and registration. The thing about this motorcycle is it can be used in so many different ways. It can be a starter bike or a performance racer. It can be a commuter to work or fun yet exciting work horse. I've mainly used mine for commuting and it hasn't failed or given me any issues yet.

    I have been looking for my first bike for an about 2 years now. I was thinking “maybe get something like an r7 or something so I can grow into it” my buddy brought his grom over to teach me how to ride. It was a little bit of a rough start, but I ended up getting it and was riding around the neighborhood for a few hours. I think the 400cc is perfect for me. If the pick up on the grom was good for me.. the ninja 400 will definitely be perfect. I am going to the dealership here probably this week to look! I am excited to become a comfortable and good rider. And be part of the incredible culture

    • @solomoto3378

      I love them both and they both ride very well, they are both the same bikes just set up different, same engines with 6 speed transmissions make it great for the highway no matter which one you are riding. You can go at 80MPH all day one the highway, they are only 341lbs so if the wind is strong, they do blow around a bit. I also have a 650 Versys for the longer rides over 300 miles, not to say I wouldn't take the other 2 bikes that far, you can get 3 pc luggage for these bikes as well. I hope this helps you out, I can do a detailed video if you like about all 3 bikes. Stay safe. @@sissydreams7494

    Fun bike. I settled for a Z400 because the ninja is consider a sport bike. 27 a month full coverage vs 100 a month for whats basically the same bike. Lotta fun, very nimble. But got used to the power in a matter of days even as a brand new rider. If you got the money get a 650, both will teach you plenty.

    • @jakegarrett8109
      @jakegarrett8109 Год назад +1

      I think the 400 would be better due to it being lighter weight. The 650 costs a lot more but without any huge performance gains (I have the 636cc ZX-6R, that of course happily lifts the front wheel up doing a power wheelie when you're doing 70 to 80 mph and want to pass someone, that is a large performance gain but maybe not the safest for beginners!)
      Kawasaki makes some pretty cool modern retro bikes, they just look so good... I saw one with I believe stainless steel exhaust, metal gas tank, just super nice aesthetics in a world full of plastics.

    • @county_bear9509
      @county_bear9509 Год назад +1

      @jakegarrett8109 I agree. I wouldn't pay 3k more for 17 more horsepower. And I wasn't going to start on a Z900. It's still a fun little bike and I've taken it to heartland park once so far. I'll upgrade later and keep the 400 in the stable.
