This was my favourite out of this, lowenbrau, paulaner and hofbrau. Haven't tried the augustiner or hacker pschorr though. Some of the lidl one's were also excellent.
This one surprised me as well was very enjoyable and nicely balanced. Although I wouldn't drink their regular beers unless they were my only choice. Yeah the carbonation would be purposely lighter to make these beers more drinkable as you say less gassy, less belching, bloating etc., as you well know people would be putting away a lot of this stuff in litre jugs over Octoberfest. Had spaten from trembling madness and it was ok but didnt think it was as good as I expected. But I did have St GeorgenBrau beforehand so it was always gonna be second place to that lol
Had this last year wasn’t impressed, but this year thought it was better ,in fact enjoyed it better than the Paulaner

Apparently Spaten are the originators of the Helles style to compete with the popularity of Czech Pilsner

The spaten original is very meh. Drinkable but nothing special. Ill have to try this, if i can.
