Any species from the boraras genus is the best nano fish. I've got 9 chilis and 1 phoenix (the phoenix was shipped to me among several chilis, so it may have been accidental), and they are absolutely wonderful. Such easy fish to care for, and they have so much personality. Very adaptable too as you stated. I'm sure I've mentioned this already but mine mine are living in a pH of 7.6, and in a temperature of 76°F (24°C). Nitrate in their tank always sits at 5.0 ppm, and they show no issues with this. They also live with a few snail species, two female bettas and 6 ember tetras. They all really like to interact with the tetras, and the smaller of the two bettas. When I had my celestial pearls in the same tank, the chilis started hiding, and they never reacted that way to new tankmates before, so I'm assuming these two species aren't that compatible. Regarding food, I have micro pellets that are still too big for them, so I put them in a bowl and grind them up with a spoon so they're powder-like. These are high protein pellets, 42% protein, which is better for them since chilis are micropredators.

100% my favourite nano. I bought a group of chillis a couple of years ago but only recently discovered after looking into breeding them that half of them may not be boraras brigittae after all. I've tried getting them to spawn in rainwater the past couple of weeks but not had any luck so I've given up for now. One interesting thing I've read about is that if the bororas are to crossbreed then the offspring will be sterile.

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  7 месяцев назад +3

That's a beautiful pairing I bet they look great together. The sparkling and croaking gouramis are separate species and then you can get even more complex as there are several species within those common names. Sparkling tend to be smaller with blue and green spots, then the croaking tend to be a bit more brown in colour with less blue spots.

Tried to add more to my group yesterday, went to my local Maidenhead yesterday afternoon, they need you up here Matt, it was awful! Lots of dead fish in sale tanks, a particular large firemouth stuck to an intake, the betta rack was grip, a particularly sad looking guy missing both eyes flopping around on his side, fish that essentially looked like fry being sold at full price. Honestly, the tanks at pets at home look better

Hi Matt, glad I checked out your channel after seeing you on MD's for a while...enjoying the videos! I am planning a large tank, probably a deep 5-6 footer, with mostly Tetras - Green Neons, Rummy Noses, Diamond Head Neons, Ember Tetras, Golden Tetras...too many, most likely! Plus I really like the Forktail Blue Eyes Rainbow Fish (Pseudomugil Furcatus), and some Celestial Danios...knowing that the Danios, the Golden Tetras and the Rainbow Fish will be feisty to their own kind, hope not to the others...plus some of the Aussie versions of Amanos (can't get the real deal here), some dark blue Cherry shrimp and my favourites, the Otocinclus as clean up crew, along with ramshorn snails. Could add some Corydoras, I suppose, but I think I have enough in the tank already.
Probably too many fish! With say 15-20 of most types...I want a peaceful community tank, filled with colour and movement, heavily planted/scaped in the natural style you show so well.
Would love comments re the compatibility of these fish etc 😄 From research, the Rummy Noses would stay schooling together, the other Tetras would often be all mixed in together, and the Danios would stay at the bottom of the tank with their own hidey holes in the scape to feel comfortable enough to come out.
Was thinking of Espei Rasboras, but took them out as too many, sigh.
I have had a 4' tank in the past with Congos and Cardinals, the Congos got too aggressive with any other tank mates, and the Cardinals were pretty shy most of the time.

I love chilli rashboaras, but my favorite are the urophtalmoides, I love the gold with black stripe and a hint of red... I have three left of the orignal 12 I bought.....havent seen them again in any of my LFS's..

It's strange we used to order chilli's and always received urothalmoides. It might just be the shippers aren't concentrating on the slightly less colorful rasboras.

Keep up the great informative videos! Always feels like a treat to watch an in depth dive on a species. Have you don't ember tetras yet? I look forward to seeing what you put out next.

I have a 13 gallon shallow with chili rasboras, pygmy cories, and cherry shrimp. I absolutely love them, and your channel was a huge inspiration for the tank! Thank you Matt!

Definitely one of the brightest nano fish that’s suitable for most smaller aquariums! I love mine even if they’re in a slightly larger aquarium and get lost!

Absolutely great video, man! Love this kind of content 👌 really happy. This is a thing! Need to make more for sure. There's plenty other species to make more like this.

I think if you make more content like this you and md could be a great team with a very symbiotic relationship. This is amazing content. And I understand the space you have is likely limited so the quantity of fish you can have is relatively low. But teaming up with md you can have all the species and space in the world to team up and make a million videos like this.

A favorite Rasbora for me I remember came into the hobby in the mid 80's was called the Axel Rasbora now called the Neon or Blue Neon Rasbora. I always thought they looked cool. Blue grey top and orange red belly. Also the Ruby Harlequin but I can't find info on that name and I don't remember the scientific name. Looked almost exactly as the name implied but they were about half the size of Harlequins. About an inch or 3 cm/30 mm.

The axels Rasbora are stunning and wouldn't mind getting a group of them at some point. It sounds like you are describing the espei Rasbora as they are like a brightly colored small harlequin!

My Flame Tetra's are brave little ones, they were being rather aggressive with my other fish, I couldn't have that so I got another tank to put them in and got the rest of them from the store. They rarely hide from anything, even my planting or cleaning stuff up, they are right up there checking out what I'm doing lol

    Ah, my favourite fish 😀
I add 12 every time I go to my local Maidenhead.
I'm glad you mentioned their confidence as it's often overlooked.

Hi Matt, had these up a week ago, 1 by 1 lost over the couple of weeks unfortunately, sharing 70 litre tank with ember tetras and green neon tetras, dwarf corydoras and albino corydoras, otocinclus and cherry shrimp and 1 male betta, all these fish are fine and healthy, aquarium heavily planted, aquarium is over 6 months old, all the rasbora came from the same shop, parameters are fine and constant, i feed frozen and use crushed flakes and granules. Love these little fish, great channel and very informative.

I’m sooooooo Thankful you popped up on my RUclips. The amount of information I have gotten from you is just crazy. You have also encouraged me to try again with a planted tank. I had one a few years back and my plants did great but my fishies did not. So of course I didn’t try again because of how much I spent to get it all together, I thought that just might be for the pros. The hubby took me out running around yesterday to see what locally we could get around here and unfortunately our pet shops do no have the variety I see you display, do you have an online site you would suggest? Keep up your amazing work
