San Francisco, Oakland among cities seeing continued decline in rent prices: Expert explains why

  • New data from Apartment List shows Oakland and San Francisco are some of the cities with the sharpest decline in December rent prices across the country.
    According to the report- this is the fourth consecutive month of declines.

      In two years it will probably be lower because more people will leave because it keeps getting worse there. You can forget about it getting filled unless it is with illegals and rent paid by the government.

      they are renting out backyard sheds in the Bay Area for 1,800 a month I am not kidding nether and a lot of people are renting out R.VS in their driveways for the same amount I have even seen people renting out vans in front of their house on the street and it is happening a lot more now. my niece rents a 3 bedroom house for 4,200 a month and everyone says that is a good deal. madness.@@Comeswoopfam

    I have a rental in cow hollow and haven’t raised the rent since 2019. I’m happy with the tenants and the amount they have been paying. There are deals out there but a good relationship trumps all the BS.

      He said last yr even studios rent for above $3k/m now even below $2k/m, that's more than $1,000 off, that's a HUGE decline: (3-2)/3=33% off. How often u see a deep drop $1k/m off from last 50 yrs? Also the capture said SF median rent price is at ~$2,1xx/mo, that IS HUGE DROP OFF, it only brings in max $2.1*12=$25.2k - prop tax - insurance (GOES UP due to FIRE & many insurance move out of CA or ALL NEW CA.     Any money you might save on rent will be vastly offset by losses as a crime victim. Car theft, break-ins, home invasion robbery, assaults, you name it.....

      Also lowering the rent DOES matter Because it means that people will be able to afford their own apartment. It also means that people will get in at a lower rent and be able to stay in their apartment because it’s more affordable.

    They couldn’t pay me to live there at any price. I like living in Canton, Mississippi where I was born in 1949 with people I’ve know all my life. It’s poor and 80% black and I like it that way. I can live here poor better than I can live in San Francisco or New York City if I was rich. There is nothing I need that I don’t have and I still give a lot to charity because I’m grateful for all God has done for me.
