Not true. The CT or MRI will locate the mass. There are a number of diagnostic tools that can be used. Once you identify the mass, a biopsy should be done. There are also blood tests (CA19-9) that can identify a protein found in the blood, to help diagnose and monitor pancreatic cancer.
@@onelivingsoul2962my mum had CT scan with contras and they can see 17 mm size of tümör on the head of pancreas. CA 19 was 79 in Feb then in Aug Ca19 jump to 1000
Can someone advise me my mother is diagnosed with pancreatic problem.she under went CT scan and the surgeon advised us to take a laboratory test call c9 19 but and advise her to take two drug flagell and another drug cr something but IAM worried after test results will she go under surgery or medication or what other therapy options available.pls comment.and advised.much appreciated.
CA19-9 is a cancer marker bloodtest. It will tell the oncologist about a protein found in the blood, to help diagnose and monitor pancreatic cancer and other conditions. There are very limited options for surgery. Talk to an oncologist and start chemotherapy.
An excellent primer!
There is no " best " treatment option. The 5-year net survival for pancreatic cancer is 10%.
My mum was told not to do biopsy and need to do surgery asap.
We asked can mum has the chemo first and surgery later and Doctor said no.
Why?thanks
I heard you should never put a needle into a tumor/mass
That is how you do a biopsy to determine if the mass is cancerous
A CT or MRI won't detect it until it's huge or has already metastasized. The Pancreas is almost hidden.
Not even Contrast CT?
Or Endoscopic Ultrasound?
Along with some blood works, say CA 19.9

Diagnosed early if the doctors do a CA19-9 cancer blood marker test then if needed a CT scan.
they don't do these.
You will also need chemotherapy to control the tumor
