The reason why fire extinguishers are next to the door is for you to get out of the room as quickly as possible. Theyre usually next to the fire exit, this is incase the fire is blocking your exit. You should have a fire extinguisher next to any exit/ entrance.

In games with inventory management I always sort my items by type. Like if it's a game with guns all my ammo for a certain type of gun will be next to that gun ( even if you can't reload from the menu), all healing items will be together, etc.

      My Pokemon rules are:
      1. My team can only consist of Pokemon native to the region I'm playing in, so no old Pokemon that just happen to be there as well.
      2. Regional forms of old Pokemon are considered new but I also limit one per team.
      3. No Legendary/Mythical Pokemon allowed on the team, ever.
      4. Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon are not allowed on the team until after the main game is beaten.
      5. Shiny Pokemon are allowed on the team regardless of rules as long as they're not a static shiny. I don't shiny hunt so I've seen maybe 2-3 shiny Pokemon throughout my life, so they get special treatment.

This is exclusive to dark souls - I never consume any boss souls even if I'm in ng+3 and have all their weapons. Then I create their weapons a second time and I feed it to frampt like - have a good meal, snake.
Also if I find a game very hard - I make sure I do it 100% as a sign of overcoming the challenge. I need to know I've defeated a threat. I still haven't played ds2 and 3 because I'm still going for the plat in ds. And couple this with the fact that I recently started playing games on the hardest difficulty and this results to me being burnt out on most games by the time I'm done

    • @sonicrules666

yes it's cheating in my book, goes against the spirit on the game, I can't understand why the devs would make a game like that then allow you to easy mode your way through, defeats the object of it, I'd always make sure I'd killed every boss solo at least once, like in dark souls 2 where you had to summon phantoms for quests or sunlight medals, the only expection was Ornstein and Smough but that was 2 on 1 so it was only fair, and also it was an AI NPC and not a human one.
However on the dark souls remaster I beat them both solo on new game and new game plus as they were the only boss in the entire souls series I'd never beaten solo. Special mention frigid outskirts from dark souls 2, not going through a blizzard with no bonfire before the boss (that's why I never did it, no bonfire) to end up 2 on 1 vs 2 tigers one of which I'd already beaten, I've never beaten that boss to this day, what a bullshit area that is.

I have a few weird ones. For example, when I play a game like Skyrim I tend to play it like it's a TV show, where each quest line is a new arc. When I start a quest line I finish it before moving on, and I treat one-off quests like they're filler episodes. It's weird, I know, but that's how my brain works. Another weird one I do is for some games I restrict the use of fast travel. For example, again in Skyrim, I only fast travel if I'm using a carriage. Luckily some games already restrict fast travel for me, like The Witcher 3.
EDIT: Another I do is specific to Pokemon, I never put my starter away, and my party rarely changes even when it would be advantageous to do so. By the end of it my party will always be my starter, the game's main legendary, and then whatever Pokemon I caught and was fond of. This usually works out in my favor because my Pokemon are always usually over-leveled by the time I reach the Elite Four, so even if there's a type disadvantage I'm never really in much trouble.

Weird rules? I apply these to myself and they're usually mandatory:
    1. In any game, stealth or not, if stealth is provided, I must clear the area of enemies in complete stealth, otherwise restart from the beginning of the area.
1.1 It doesn't count (for resetting) if enemies are alerted and you are not found.
    2. In Danganronpa or Ace Attorney games, I am not allowed to reread/review the description of items/evidences, additionally I cannot make mistakes.
    3. Always have items be ending with 0s or 5s. (Thanks Rosie, glad I'm not the only one, although mine is minimalistic in order to buy rare items).
    4. I put a threshold on items, before I use them, basically and usually I must not use an item if it doesn't exceed a certain number of it.
    5. In Call of Duty, I must not use flashbangs, unless said so. And my gun needs to have lots of ammo reserved, which may result into "acceptable and necessary" friendly fire.

This is something i do in any game with a TON of sidecontent: I absolutely MUST do as much sidecontent as possible, as early as possible, before doing ANY story!
It doesn't matter if i know that i will get way more abilities that would make this much easier to do later, i simply MUST have all those collectables,, find all those secrets, free all those outposts, doo all those sidequests, gain those levels and find all that loot the SECOND i get left alone, especially in open world games... If it so happens that a portion of the map is locked behind story, i just do everything i possibly can where i am, and then begrudingly do ONE story mission! If that story unlocks something new, i do it all again!
At this time, i'm in the proces of cleaning up half the map in 2015s Mad Max, before even getting through the Jaw, while also catching every pokemon possible before each gym in pokemon Sword and Shield when i need a break from that...

1- If I play a game with a good/bad route, I'll ALWAYS play the good guy. 2- I'll pick up anything that lies on the ground or that can be grabbed even if I don't need a huge amount yet. 3- If I can swap party members, I'll make sure that everyone has the same level. 4- I'll complete a map even if I don't get achievements for it. 5- If I get items that are excessively rare in games (ex: Megalixirs), I will not use them AT ALL. 6- If I finish the main story, there is a very small chance that I'll continue playing.
That's some quirks that I picked from being a games tester AND a decades-long RPG player.

    1) Never use the powerful one-shot items (might need them later)

    3) Never have full inventory of something if it can be avoided. E.g. Have 90/99 potions. (I might find some that will just disappear if I am full)

A rule I established for myself while playing Kingdom Hearts III is only play it on my day off or at night before a day off. I did it this way because I get home from work at 10:30 pm so I knew if I started on a work night I would end up losing track of time and play til 4 or 5 am. Then I didn’t follow that rule when I was playing back through the KH games on the HD collection and ended up being up exactly that late during the final stages of Birth by Sleep. So I’ve gone back to that rule of only playing games on my day off or the night before one.

In open world games, i like to keep the markers, lines, any kind of guide. So, to balance that i have three rules: 1. No fast travel 2. If the marker is below 1k meters, proceed on foot. 3. Following two, if there's a point of interest in the way, absolutely go there. That's why took me a whole week to do ONE story mission in Novigrad in The Witcher 3.
In JRPGs i gotta have maximum capacity of every item, if possible. So, by the end, when normally you are rolling in cash, i used to buy every basic healing and whatnot even knowing that i wouldn't use any.
And i like to collect weapons too, "oh, there's a worthless sword with 0.1% drop rate". I don't have it, so, sure, let's grab it!

Oh boy I have so many of these.
    In Stealth games:
I cannot be spotted. Spotted means an immediate save reload / restart of the level.
I must kill or knock out every hostile in the level (blame Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven - because of this when I play Thief I blackjack everyone and have a pile of unconscious bodies somewhere)
In RPG's / games with RPG elements (like Bloodstained):
    I also have the 5 / 0 / 99 item habit
If there is a map you fill in gradually I have to fill in the whole thing before moving on
If there are job classes, every character in my final party has to master every single one of them
Before I finish the game everyone must be min / maxed as high as possible
In every area, I have to do every side quest possible before moving on
If there is a bestiary, item compendium, etc, I have to complete it
If I find out I missed a missable item I have to restart
If there are items to pick up in an area, I have to pick them all up - even if I already have 99 of one of them
    In fighting games:
How dare you spam jump / low kicks
    Shooters:
    How dare you camp
There are probably loads more of these but those are off the top of my head.

Like I don't care if I have to travel from, in Final Fantasy XV for example, the dungeon near Insomnia to a dungeon near Lestallum to complete a side-quest and then back, I will not fast-travel. I, however, will use the car (mainly because I had the AP and EXP ability for car travel learned).

2)Also in any game, don't run around like a mad man. I always try to walk, specially short distances. Take things slow. Part of the reason why I adore the weighty animations in RDR2.
    3) Use the difficulty that is most appropriate to the theme and setting of the game. Doom: Hurt me plenty (I'm the friggin doom marine!), Metro: Ranger/RHC (man is not on top of the food chain)

Never EVER use an item in battle. Absolutely never. Healing potion? Health regenerating food? Boost of any kind? Nope.
All fights must be fair, no doping involved. And if your opponent uses items? Well, then their defeat will be even sweeter.
Also, and maybe most importantly: When I've managed to 100% a game officially I will then go out of my way to max out everything I can, like money and such and proceed to buy the max quantity of all consumable items and stuff of the sort. Equipment too if money is easy to get in that game.
Then, after I've done everything and there is literally nothing else I could possibly achieve, I take a print or whatever memento I choose, save, take a deep breath and proceed to delete the save file.
It's such a good feeling, really, finishing a game you loved and learned a lot with and letting go like that now that you've completed it. It's really liberating.

  • @brendanblanks4438

A maybe-weird rule I impose upon myself is to always have both a primary weapon and a primary tool on me at all times, regardless of inventory constraints or whether they're even useful for what I'm about to be doing, and a backup for them. Minecraft, for instance; I always have a pickaxe, and I always have a sword in slots one and two. Never anything else and never ever lacking them unless they've broken and I've run out of replacements. My very next action? Replace them. All else can wait until I've got two pickaxes and a sword.
That's just an example, though. Pretty much any game that has both tools and weapons, I always have a primary semi-frequently used tool on me, especially if it's used for finding or unlocking secrets. I also always have a weapon that's versatile enough to handle most situations competently, in addition to a weapon that's specifically suited to a long-distance or heavy-stealth play-style. If I catch myself without all of those, I feel utterly naked and vulnerable the entire time, whether I need them or not.

My friends and I played Goldeneye back when we were in college. We had a couple rules that we played by. The first is no surprise: No one is allowed to choose Oddjob as their character. The second rule was that you weren't allowed to kill anyone before they got a gun. So, if someone just got killed and spawned in but hadn't grabbed a gun yet, they weren't a valid target. The player would say "No gun!" and then you'd let them pass. Along with this, once you had a gun, you had to let everyone know. My friends were all very honorable in this, and no one ever cheated.

1.) If I take ANY damage at all in a game I have to heal, I CANNOT be last then 100% health in game If I do not have a way to heal I will stop what quest/mission/ect. I am doing to go buy healing supplies to stay at full health all the time.
My second is something new I noticed but I do it alot in other games too....
2.) Always craft and use the weaker easier to make weapons/tools in a game BUT carry a set of the better equipment with you JUST in case specifically animal crossing. I will always carry and make flimsy tools but make sure I have the better tools with me but I'll ONLY use the flimsy tools because I feel like they are just SO much easier to make and you need them to make better tools anyways, but also in shooters if I have a pistol and I shotgun or a assault rifle I will use the pistol first ALWAYS even online matchs because what if I run out of ammo...?

Meaning, I have to put weapons in one box, armor in a different one, herbs & potion components go into their own jar, and if I'm in Skyrim, I can't keep the food I made and the ingredients for that food in the same boxes. The same goes for when I do blacksmithing crafting. I have to keep metals in one chest, organic components in another, and when I've made whatever it is I'm making (since I usually farm the stuff to get as many points in blacksmithing as possible) then I have to keep those things in their own separate chest. And let's not talk about how I have to re-alphabetize my bookcases in Skyrim every time I bring home a new book. Guys, I keep every book I pick up (unless I've already got a copy, it's mine and it's going on my shelves ... after I reorganize them by first letter). I know it's a problem! My own home isn't so well organized, but dang it my house in Skyrim is Instagram levels of organized and I can't help it!

This drives me crazy at times.
Watching people play Overcooked and when they complain about ingredients on the floor.

"Do not finish a fight with a low kick on a downed opponent"
*Dragunov d, 3+4 every opponent at the end of every round*

I have to watch the credits of every game I ever beat partly out of respect and partly out of missing that one famous post credit cutscene.

Black Ops 1 zombies in Kino Der Toten: Don't open the stage door to the alley. The only case it's acceptable to open it is ONLY IF you decided to take that route initially to get to power at the stage, but I very rarely find people that take that route. It's a fine way to go...but it just seems so weird and wrong now that I've gotten this far opening the circle only to the right from spawn all this time.

Two rules come to mind for me. The first one is that I have to complete all side quests before I finish the main story. The second is that I have to finish my gaming session in a certain place. For example, when I’m finished playing Arkham Knight for the day, I always go to the GCPD lockup before turning off.

In survival games like Resident Evil, I dont use any herbs, only use ammo if I ABSOLUTELY have to and restart from save if I take damage. The only exception is the final boss, because now I've earned the saftey net.
