I have done the same like you did and thanks for this. However, it's not the best choice. You are not able to see the warning information directly on this android display.
You can manage by going into the car information, there you can see the warnings. If you have replaced the top of the display, the airbags will be active for babies at the front seat.
You can't see the consumption aswell. The problem the brown connector is no where and all data comes through it. Positive, the steering wheel controller is working.
I placed the android display on the middle of the dashboard where the radio was and I leaved on the original small display on the top.

The new unit replaces both the old screen and the old radio in one. You just connect up the big multi cabled connector and as many of the old cables that are relevant (radio antenna, hazard lights) for the basic setup. There are female USB cables for you to connect your phone to the unit and then optional rear camera, aux in/out, sub-woofer, microphone etc. connectors. The old radio is completely redundant, but you can slide it back in if you don’t have anything to fill the space.
