I think it should be a tradition of writing your name (or other small notes) in used books, so that each person who buys it generation after generation can admire that other people who have appreciated the book.

I enjoy your videos about film, since the david lean and saul bass videos I have kept watching your essays and of course liking them. But I appreciate a lot about this type of videos you share, they are very personal, but It's also a good look of a movies lover's mind(or the ones I know) and lot of people appreciate that.

This is beautiful. Beginners is my favorite film ever made, and Mike Mills is an incredible writer/director, so naturally I'd be weary about any one stealing ideas from him. But you managed to pay tribute to it and improve upon it and make it personal all at once. Love this, and feels very reminiscent of my beginnings as a hopelessly optimistic filmmaker. Keep it up!

I’ve only been following your channel for about a year, but you’ve just kept jumping in your creativity with every video. Thanks for this. It hits the spot.

Fellow Minolta user - woot! Also this was a lot of fun, I think a lot of people should steal this idea. It can be a game for filmmakers, the way that painters hang out and play Exquisite Corpse. Filmmakers don't really have something like that, the logistical and financial complexities of film inhibit it, but this is a fantastic work around. We need a name for it though -Personal Collage? Mills-o-graphs? I like Mills-o-graphs.
I have footage for something like this I did years ago when I was assigned to do a documentary on myself. That was 2014. I was 25, I had just started filmschool, I was wound up and had far too much to prove. But despite that ego, I didn't want to make a film so directly about myself. Maybe I was scared. My life, my things and my apartment have changed so much in that time. I should still have the footage somewhere, maybe I'll put it together after I'm done with post on my current film. I can expand it to include family members and juxtapose the recent past and present. There's a lot that can be done with this sort of thing.
Also - remember a few months ago and you threw down the gauntlet and said you wanted to reinvent video essays? I was the guy who called you out for not taking it far enough. Even though this video is heavily indebted to Mike Mills, the fact that it's gotten me thinking about filmmaking not in a general way, but thinking specifically of making a specific movie, got me reaching for my notebook to write down scenes I want to include - tells me that you're on the right path. Excelsior!

It's strange because I see something of myself in you, the something that I'll never be but have been trying too for so long its almost become a dream, rather than a realistic goal. Seeing someone who is actually the thing breaks it away from being just another dream, but also pushes it away so far that I know I'll never reach it. It's more heartbreaking than a dream because I know I can, it is possible, but I never will. Please make a movie for all of us who can but won't, because you will do it better.
