Great questions thanks! In climate zone 3, the 2x6 provides little advantage for insulation over 2x4. We have considered moving to 2x6 studs, 24" on center but with the exterior foam, we get into some non-standard door jamb/threshold sizes. We'd love to use Zip-R, but it is not stocked locally and at last check, the 1.5" Zip-R was $110 / sheet and we are currently at $43 / sheet for OSB plus $19 / sheet for 1" XPS, so its challenging to justify from a cost standpoint. We pay $12 / sheet for install of the XPS.
Great explanation!!
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful!
Like a lot of your techniques. Curious why 2x4 vs 2x6? Why not Zip R vs OSB and XPS?
