Hey there Scott, Velotric makes good quality electric bikes. I really like the tires and tread pattern on this one. I was very surprised by the sand test, I thought sure it would bog down and not go through. Nice headlight and cool rear brake light built into the rear fender. I like that it has a 500w motor with a peak of 900w. If you are cruising on level ground you should save some juice and get better mileage over a 750w motor. Addmotor makes a very similar motor with similar specs. This Velotric really moves with this motor when unlocked into class 3. The brakes seem adequate and would probably stop the bike in a shorter distance with a wider tire. I, for one, like the thinner tires on this one. The Velotric Discover 1 Plus is an awesome commuter and engineered properly with no ghost peddling, UL listing, adjustable handlebar and water resistance. Good price on this one too, only thing I would add is a rear rack. I'm sure one could easily be bolted on, no problem. Thank you Scott with another thorough ebike review that we come to expect from your channel. You're one of the very best. Thank you , also, for the tour and beautiful sites of Chicago. Such a beautiful city. Enjoy seeing one of your French bulldogs making an appearance too. Please enjoy what's left of summer and the fall that is upon us, we all know what the weather is going to be like in just a few months. Take care ------Steve.
Steve, You provide some of the most detailed comments on my channel (and I bet on any other channel you comment on). You always seem to find a way to enhance the information I put out with your own perspective and I really appreciate it. I feel if I miss something, you will find it and add value. Thank you for that. Have you ever thought about reviewing products? I think you would be excellent at it. Cheers!
Hey Scott, Another great review.. Nice seeing the sites of Chicago and your dog... If your ever in the Washington Crossing Pa area lets do a ride and review.... It was greart meeting you today.... Chris🚲
Great and very helpful info! My rear tire went flat after I got home after my first 3 mile ride! 😢 Those tires can be improved with Schwables. The tires that the bike comes with are too risky in my opinion. I had to tow it back to the repair place.
I put FlatOut in each and every bike I review. I have never had a flat in over 70+ bikes I have reviewed and about 6500 miles ridden. I don't think the issue is the tires but even if you upgrade to the Schwables, I would put this in the tubes. FlatOut Tire Sealant Sportsman Formula: amzn.to/3HhtBRS
Can you make a video how to install the bar mirror? I have the Velotric Discover 1 Plus but the grips don't have a spot to install that mirror you recommend.
Great review and seems like a good deal. I’m looking for a bike for my wife. If you have any other suggestions feel free to point me to them. I got the gotrax tundra recently but she does not want a heavy fat tire bike
You turn a dial that compresses the spring inside the fork. You are basically adjusting the suspension to your weight to make the suspension firmer and reduce the chance that you're going to bottom out your suspension.
This would be a good deal if the Lectric Xpress with a torque sensor didn't exist at $100 more with a 750w motor and a 500w version for $1000 (but the 500w has a smaller battery). There are those who want a cadence sensor so for them not a bad deal. I do much prefer the shifter on the Discover though.
@@scotthardestyI'm actually not that impressed with the rest of their line up except perhaps the Lectric One for its high tech Pinion gear box. Not my thing, but I can see why people like it. The XP Lite is very niche. The XP 3.0 is fine but aging. The XPeak is a decent fat tire bike for the price especially when they run the free battery deal. The XPedition seems to be a decent value cargo bike. My primary issue with Lectric is that they all use cadence sensors except the XPress and they all use the same ugly clunky 7 speed push button gear shift. My wife owns their Trike and I like it for what it is, but it needs a larger chain ring to avoid ghost peddling even at 14mph.
I'm a big guy and the 440 lb weight capacity on Velotric bikes was the deciding factor. I bought 2 Packers and love them. However, I'm likely going to sell those and replace them with the Fold for easier transport.

Hi Scott: I’d like to get the rear view mirror. Is it on Amazon? Great job!
@@studiosinger Sorry for the delay, I was in Utah backpacking. Here is the link to the mirror. Hafney Bar End Mirror: amzn.to/3mZxtLZ

Good review as always Scott 👍 Love Velotric and a great budget bike. Had to laugh at forks locked😂 been there done it😊
That’s not the first time that has happened. 😂

Hi Chris! Thanks for watching! It was also great meeting you. The same offer stands if you ever come to Chicago!

You can use a box cutter or sharp knife to cut out the circle of the handlebar, that will let you install it.
@@scotthardesty Thank you for the reply, I will try that and get the mirror you recommended.

I am big fan of the discover one plus but I feel the Discover 2 is the ultimate commuter ebike. Either one is a winner.
Newbie question here: I hear you say that the suspension can be preloaded but I don't know what that means. Or how it effects things.
You turn a dial that compresses the spring inside the fork. You are basically adjusting the suspension to your weight to make the suspension firmer and reduce the chance that you're going to bottom out your suspension.
Thanks for the explanation of suspension preloading.
I couldn't have said it any better. Thank you

I’ve heard good things about the Lectric XP. Oct 1, I fly to Phoenix to check out the entire Lectric line up.

Competitive feature 750w for $100 more, better if 1000w w bigger battery
@@bc516Hellothe 750 is nominal power. It can produce up to 1200w when needed.

Bottom line how fast
31-32mph
