I give a basic overview about cleaning the carb on our buggy go kart. The carburetor is always a trouble area if the engine is not cranked or started at least once a month. This go cart sat for a year or so without ever being started so the fuel in it evaporated and gummed up the jets.
Ethanol can clog a carb. First thing to check is to adjust the jet, because people mess with them. Spark plugs also foul out fast with 2 stroke engines and only cost $3. By cranking it the engine pumps fuel, and will remove any water in the jets. Water can settle in the gas tank bowl that sprays into the jets. Condensation, snow, and rain gets in the tanks threw the gas lid wheep hole. Also change air filter after 25 hours of use. Clogged air filter will cause it to overheat, and run too rich. Engines run colder with new air filters, because the air/ fuel mix is correct. No oil filter on most Briggs engines, so you need to check oil with finger and change if it is dirty. I ran new oil in a old engine for 30 minutes and then changed it again to flush it, and it was all black after 30 minutes, but now it's clean oil after running it for a hour. So you need to change oil more often than you would with a oil filter.
Great tips! Thanks.
Can it run if it don't got a air filter
I have the some model . My daughter was riding it and said it made a popping noise then after that that it wouldn’t start. Do you have idea what’s wrong with it?
I think it would matter how loud that pop was. Did anything come out of the engine? Spark plug still there? Oil leaking out?
@@SeidelRanch no oil leaking and the spark plug is still there
@@La_Kei Then I would use the Fire/Fuel/Air search to troubleshoot. Make sure the spark plug is getting spark. Make sure fuel is getting in (try starter fluid) and make sure air is available (not clogged). If you have all 3, there may be an electrical issue.
@@SeidelRanch thanks
You might need thicker oil
Nice video. Any idea why when I press the gas pedal all the way the buggy turns off
Could be the high speed needle is clogged or set wrong in the carb.
@@SeidelRanch where is high pin needle?
Also I re adjusted the valve timing and that also worked and it started and ran like a dream
Awesome. Good info to know.
You have video
What do you do when a couple of the screws dont have heads on them to take it off?
That is a good question. I guess you would have to drill them out and reverse the screws.
Just buy a new one on e bay it's only 21 bucks I'm bought mine 10 minutes ago
@@SeidelRanch mines is like yours. The bowl casing screws have no heads to screw off. They probably have to be forced out with a dial pin
I've got two of these carts and they won't start. I'm baffled at why they won't start. They're both getting air, fuel and spark! Even bought another carb, still wouldn't start on either one. Tried the starting fluid trick but nothing. Maybe low compression?
If they won't fire even with starting fluid I would double check the fire/spark to make sure the plug is firing. If it is, then I would check compression, yes. Not much more than air, fuel and fire to get these going. Starting fluid would cover the air and fuel; you should just need the fire as long as the compression and timing is right.
@@SeidelRanch They have spark, I've checked the spark plugs in dim light. I haven't checked the timing but what are the odds of both doing the exact same thing? I'm tired of messing with the GY6 motor, iffy reliability. Thinking about upgrading to a predator 301 cc swap.
@@GluteusMax777 That sounds like the right fix 😀!
My 150cc got kart 2 wires to the starter solenoid are hot. I’ve already replaced the solenoid 3 times so I don’t think that’s it. The 2 wires stay hot the whole time it’s running. It will start and run but I have to hit start it because when I turn the key it only clicks. So after a hot start I’m golden I just unplug the starter solenoid and I’m good and wires aren’t hot anymore.
That's odd, and should not be. If wires are hot I would be looking for a short somewhere.
@@SeidelRanch how would I find a short? I’m guessing constant power
@@Martyimgay You will have to trace the wires the whole way looking for any stripped areas or burning. That is what I would do.
Could you please show where all of the fuel lines and vacuum lines run to, I have the same go cart but won’t start, thank you
I wish I could but we have since gotten rid of that go kart. I am sure you can find something on that engine online.
Do you have to do anything with the fuel line? Is it an enclosed system?
I never really had to mess with the fuel line.
Where did u get that hitch ball attachment
The ball mount was already part of the frame, so I just added a ball. If yours does not have one, I would probably try to bolt or weld on something like this: amzn.to/45nj6VZ
Hey mind starting but when I press the accelerator it turns off any idea what that is
Does it idle well on its own? If it will idle fine then its probably the low and high speed settings.
Same thing happens to mine bro
Can you help me with mine, ive got a similar model its the Viper KD-200 and mine wont start, not sure of the issue though
Have you pulled the carb and cleaned it out?
Mine will turn click make a noise when turn the keys. You think it is the starter?
after i cleaned it, gas comes out of this black tube from the side, i cant figure out why?
Is the float stuck open?
When you say “ it won’t crank”. Yes it cranks as that is what is referring to the engine being turned over. You meant to say it won’t run.
Yeah, I know. Sorry. It's my gibberish english. Thanks.
Hi. Have same buggy. Have excess fuel feeding back to air intake from engine. We don't have pcv installed.
Did you ever find the issue to the problem? Not sure what would do that. Would like to know for future knowledge.
I opened up the other end with the diaphragm and spring. I think I got it in right, but not sure. What do I do?
That sounds like the fuel pump. It should be fine if you put it all back together properly.
Thank you so much for this video. You rock
Glad it was helpful!
Hello I have the same issue I changed the spark plug the gas and just the valves and I have changed the stator and pick up coil wire and new starter and new solenoid and new clutch kit and belt radiator and new spark plug and I have tried to start it and it will not crank over the engine will crank but will not start at all I get spark got compression and the battery is charged so I'm not sure what's wrong please help me thank you
Will it try to start with starting fluid? If you get it to fire up but then quit with starting fluid the it's not getting fuel. If it doesn't even fire with starting fluid the it's not getting good spark or air. Hope that helps.
Thank you it works good now
What is the numbers on the carb
I don't have it anymore, we sold it to a neighbor since the kids stopped using it. Usually "GY6 150 clone" gets you to the parts you need. That is the engine type.
@@SeidelRanch oh ok
What kind of carburetor is it
It's the "stock" GY6 carb that came on the motor. It's a chinese GY6 clone engine.
The peckcook is vacuum ran when u turn it over it opens up.
OK
How do I check compression on a go kart ?
It's the same as any gas engine. Get a compression tester and pull the spark plug. Put in the tester and turn the engine over a few times. That will get you the compression from that cylinder.
Do u have any idea why my go kart will just turn off when slowing down to a complete stop most of the time and it will not be able to be put in drive for like 30 minutes and what happens when I put it into drive the go kart will jerk foward and turn off by itself and this is a brand new go kart that I recently bought
That sounds like a mix of things to me. Did you get it from a "dealer" or shipped to you? It almost sounds like it just needs to be adjusted and tuned.
@@SeidelRanch thanks for responding I got it from a dealer
@@drone_crazy If it's new, I would get them to look at it. It could just be some carb/throttle and gear cable adjustments.
That's a nice go kart
Thank you. We like it.
That petcock looks ok sitting on the ground there. You shouldn't have any gas flowing out of it unless you apply vacuum to that skinny line. Of course you can always learn more your petcocks right here: ruclips.net/video/6QX6bM0TGFc/видео.html
or here: ruclips.net/video/xbUWOM5PnyQ/видео.html (shameless plug lol)
Shameless plugs are fine. Thanks for the info. I am always looking for information on my petcock.
Can you fix mines
Maybe. What is going on?
@@SeidelRanch wont start I left it out in the rain and it dosent have
a belt
@@AFC272 That looks like it could be more than carb issues.
@@SeidelRanch can u fix mines bro?..shit starts stays on but soon as I step on the gas it idles and then it turns off
Why is mine sealed
All my holes are epoxy filled
If you mean your carb, that is not epoxy; that is the ethanol from the gas built up on the carb. All of that needs to be cleaned.
Mine crack up but wont turn on
Fuel, air and fire. Check all 3.
Fuel filter needs a change. Looks dirty
Thank you. I think I ended up doing that but not sure. I need to check. Thanks for mentioning that.
Preventitive measurrs are good for a running engine. Cleaning amd changing filters is a must.
@@GMC.Sonoma.4.3 Agree.
Muchas gracias me sirvió de mucho tu video 👍
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching.
Hello. Mom of three who barely knows how to fuel her own car. I just was gifted with a big dune buggy for my 12 years old son. THe machine will not start. After 3 months of owning it yesterday i was able to charge the battery. It fires and stops. No gas in the tank. There is a screw under the speed paddle, I think it is a speed regulator. I am going to screw it more so that my son goes slow. But I need to add gas. I am goign to clean the carburator because the person who gave it said that it doesn't start. Hence why i am on your channel. I will do the Fire, Air and the fuel. But I am scared :..( How do i know if the spark plugs do their jobs? Where is everything anyway? Where should i buy all my parts? I would like to have it ready for christmas since my boy was born December 25.
I cleaned my carb and it won’t still turn on
Have you made sure your engine is getting the main 3 (fuel, air and fire)? If you are having trouble starting, I would take out the air filter, check the spark from the spark plug and clean the entire fuel system. If it still does not run, you may need to check the engine for compression problems.
I had problems today I thought it was my floats but it turned out to be The solonoid valve I just unplugged it and everything started working if any one tell me why this worked I'm all ears
Crickets from me but glad you go it working.
Anybody I need some help with a 2008 Hammerhead Twister let me know if you can I will give you my number 150cc
Did you ever fine out the issue? What was the problem?
My go kart wont start and I cleaned the carb and spark
Another thought is you can pick up a new carb on ebay or amzn.to/3pKXi2O. You might try that if you are still having issues.
Or get a new battery or fill yours with battery acid
I would say dirt.
This would’ve helped a lot but the carb on mine is a sealed one 🤦🏻♂️
Really? I haven't seen that one but you may be able to pick one up cheap then off Amazon. amzn.to/3zzNLCR
Mines is sealed too pathetic.
@@BigBadBillyGATEZyou can remove the riveting and put screws on it. They are pretty easy to tap out.
If you explained as much as u stuttering and saying ummmm be a ok video
Glad you loved it.
way too much bloat
Thank you. Glad it helped.
