    Fun fact: in 1982 Poland had higher % of electrified rail lines than GB and this spread was only growing in next years.

    • @Isochest
      @Isochest 3 года назад

      That is because UK politicians oppose efficient railways. Electrification is inevitable but they must be paid by the oil lobby or some Hegelian destructive movement

    • @Isochest

      I know. UK Politicians have been blocking rail electrification for 100 years!

      Another fun fact - polish mass electrification started with British locomotives and licences. EU06 made by English Electric and based on that EU07 made in Poland by Pafawag and HCP are still one of the most popular machines on polish tracks.

    Extremely rare footage of narrow railway in Nasielsk. It was the last public narrow line build in Poland. There are only few movies of this line showing it operational. Disassembled in 2011. Thank you for this extraordinary material.

    29:58 - that place is Biskupin: bronze age settlement, just by Żnin - Gąsawa narrow-gauge railway - in that time tourist trains was operating on that line.
    The part after 36:19 was filmed on Żnin - Gąsawa line, that open cars are still in use till now ;)

    interesting document however the mix of polish and russian motives is quite annoying for me. It shows british lack of understnding to this part of europe. Especially they lack comment about who allowed the comunism to be imposed upon us.

      Still, the comments about the condition of Poland are surprisingly accurate for a foreign-made documentary. Especially the one pointing out that the Polish countryside is in a permanent crisis for 360 years. It clearly explains that it's not the German, Russian or Soviet occupant responsible for the misery. It's the Polish nobility, the land owners, who instead of bringing civilization development, exploited the working class..

    Interestingly enough, the forest railway in the Bieszczady mountains was the only non-PKP narrow gauge railway with regular passenger operations. This was because forests in Bieszczady were quite remote areas back in the day, and the railway was the only way out, particuraly during winter and early spring, when dirt roads were either blocked or to muddy to traverse even if someone had a car in the first place. Other forest railways were strictly used by industry only.
    Oh, and the steam engine in question is not of aptly called "Las" ("Forest") type, but Kp4, built initially for Soviet Union, but with several orders cancelled, these engines stayed in Poland at various industrial railways.

    Does the railroad shown in the film still exist, is it preserved, and more importantly does it still run steam ?

      It was shut down like most of the narrow gauge railwys in this country, but the mountain railway is preserved, I had a ride on it this year(2020).

      most of them were closed after switching to free market but few of them are still functioning as a tourist attraction, managed by locals or/with railfans with some financial support from local authorities or/and private companies.

      Wolsztyn depot still use normal gauge steam engines in regular work. Some narrow gauge rail still works and use steam engine in some events. Unfortunately in this year flood destroy most of Przeworsk'a KD tracks.
