I do miss the OG characters like Chirag, Patty or even Holly. We did see Fregley up to “Hard Luck” and a cameo in “Meltdown” but it seemed forced for nostalgia purposes
Kind of sad how this series is just repeating this repetative formula. What used to be a relatable book series with realistic characters and good consistant stories is now turning into "The Wacky Adventures of the Heffly Family".
Diary of a wimpy kid 16 synopsis: they go on a cruise ship and a nuclear bomb hits the ship and kills manny they swim to a desert island and they barely survive
First of all, I want to get something straight. This is a journal, not a diary. I know what it says on the cover but when Mom went out to buy this thing I specifically said to make sure it didn't say diary in it.
The 16th book should be about: A new kid moves into Greg's neighborhood, and Greg and Rowley try to be their friends, but then they realize he is a bit of a weirdo in and out of school, so Greg stops trying to hangout with him, but Rowley still hangouts with him, so greg has to try and get Rowley back
Com on they could still have some ideas left: Greg goes to a medieval festival Greg actually gets a girlfriend Greg runs away for most of the book but then h e comes back A copy cat/rival appears on the school and steals rowley and other aspects of gregs life An only halloween themed book Rodricks point of view Another book dedicated to the father Etc...
Probably because greg's character is a middler schooler We all know the importance of character evolution But if Greg becames more mature he won't be Greg anymore
Great video! Susan Heffley is such a karen who tries way to hard too be one of those perfect family vlog channels. I thought it was pretty relatable to 2020 now when they were basically quarantined at his grandma's house and she forced them to live in a basement whenever she had her friends come over.
Well, Susan did force her entire town to go electronics free back in Old School, and even Frank was secretly pissed off at her for doing such a thing. Speaking of Frank, he told Susan in The Long Haul *book* that Summer was the worst possible time for him to take a vacation, but Susan forced him to go with the rest of the family anyway. Susan is also shown to *not* take criticism very well as shown in Page 178 of Wrecking Ball, but Greg and the rest of the Heffley family handled it perfectly.
I was saying the same thing when I finished the book. The series had always gotten more absurd with every new book, but it sure has now gotten to a point of extreme. Although definetely an improvement over the last book, Wrecking Ball, its still a far cry from the classics like Rodrick Rules, Dog Days, The Long Haul, and even the Getaway, (even if my rating of that last one is way above the average). But in the end, there really isn't much we all can do about it other than make our own LLBs, Memes, and Alternate canons. Jeff Kinney should continue to write and release what he wants to that he is able to do, but even if we don't get another great Wimpy Kid book, The books we've got so far including the seven classic books, and the original film trilogy are all enough for the rest of our lives.

I don’t understand why Greg can’t just go to high school already, middle school is like the most generic and boring school out of all the schools, maybe they could make a book that takes place in Elementary school
The last diary of a wimpy kid book should be called “Diary of a Wimpy Kid:The Funeral” and it would be about Greg dying and it would be from Rodrick’s perspective
Greg dies. Rodrick finds an unfinished diary that greg was working on. Rodrick finishes it and puts it on gregs tombstone... like my idea? Obvios;ly its based off urs
The main problem is that Jeff refuses to let Greg grow up, he should be in Highschool right now. Greg remaining in Middle school is what's keeping the series stagnant. That's why I will always prefer the movies to the books, at least Greg grows and develops not only his character but his relationships with other characters too. To be honest I really liked this book. I believe it's one of the best in the series, surprising for the 15th book, but I have slight criticism Overused plot Toilet humor is used a lot Besides that I love this book
I disagree about the plot being overused. 3 vacations aren't that many. Also, these are 3 in one decade. And Greg is supposed to be like a real kid and I've been to more than 3 vacations.
While I agree, I think Jeff is trying too hard to make these normal family vacations turn into "wacky escapades" and that's really apparent in Deep End. Has anyone here been to an RV camp where people were hoarding supplies and you had to ride your RV in the water?

I agree with so much of the video. The older books are so much better than the newer books, and being a kid who's still in middle school at the time of writing this, I can say it's the truth and doesn't have anything to do with nostalgia. The older books were funny, relatable, and were constantly entertaining with something new every few pages. I didn't even like reading, but I would burn through those books 1 book a day, and I enjoyed every single second of it. Within the past few years, the books have gone from that to boring, repetitive, and stretched out stuff that isn't even relatable and funny stuff that makes you glued to the book or induce uncontrollable laughter like the old ones. Much of the characters aren't even there anymore. I read the older books for entertainment, but the newer books feel like just checking on Greg's life. I mean, I'm happy we're getting new books though.
I know the deep end is another vacation story, but this one stood out from the long haul and the getaway. It was really engaging and the vacation was really fun to read about and different then the other books. I think you should just do I title- why the deep end was not that good- Overall, you have your own opinion and I think it was an amazing book.
The RV Bridge Scene Is Basically The Book Version Of The Long Haul Movie Ending Where Greg Lands On The Pool With The Boat In The Pool, *THE MOVIE NOT THE BOOK*
I’ve not really kept up with the wimpy kid books the past year or two. But from what I can tell it’s all so repetitive. I honestly wouldn’t mind Greg growing up to show development and character growth. I don’t mean making him an adult straight away but gradually make him grow
At this point i think that after Kinney’s next Wimpy kid book, I think the series should end. Just because of the fact that the storyline is getting very repetitive and the books just don’t really introduce anything new to the story anymore. Ever since double down the books just started getting worse and worse. To a point were they just suck. Unless Jeff introduces something interesting to the story or actually puts Greg in high school, I think the series should end.
If they ever do another one of these, I think they should have Susan decide to not do her normal stuff (making it educational and taking phones) and slowly struggles to not head back to her old habits.
The Deep End surprised me a lot because I was expecting it to go back to the status qoe of Greg being the biggest prick on the planet, but it did something different. It allowed Greg and his other family members to share their sides of luck with one another to have a balance restored. In the other books where they went on holidays, Greg's bad luck would rub off on his family members and they would just keep their stroke of good luck to themselves. But in this book, all five of them share their sides of luck with one another with there being a balance of good luck and bad luck happening simultaneously. And I think the reason why this happens, is because of the destruction of their old house in the previous book. That house being the symbolism of Greg being the biggest loser on the planet.
It went from a sociopathic kid in middle school with 1 cohesive story in each book, like Dog Days it was all 1 story in summer, along with Greg’s Dad. BOOM, great book. Roderick Rules, Roderick and Greg begin to bond, meanwhile, a love interest gets in the way which leads to some funny moments. Still being able to balance it featuring other characters like Patty, Fregley, and Chirag. Speaking of which, where the hell did they go? Anyways, great book. The Deep End, ANOTHER Road Trip and it’s the exact same idea, thoughts, except this time. Greg makes “new friends” and the family runs around ,Greg gets chased by Melons, and the RV CRASHES into the FUCKING river in an “epic river scene” while Greg’s bathing suit falls off. Hey didn’t see THAT before. Yeah I thought this was a book series about a relatable middle schooler. This isn’t relatable at all i clearly can tell it’s made up, when I used to relate and feel like I WAS Greg. All the old characters are gone, the illustrations, for me at least, have gone downhill. They’re too detailed and professional now, too much silhouettes. It’s LOST the sinister tone. Only reason the buy this one is to complete your collection. That’s basically it. I haven’t read it by the way, but I don’t need too really, I already know what I’m getting.
Fregley still makes appearances and Chirag did have a cameo in The Getaway. Patty on the other hand is definitely a character that disappeared after the third book. I guess Jeff Kinney didn’t really like her that much as that’s the only logical explanation I can think of for her not being in any of the books after The Last Straw. Such a shame considering the larger role Patty plays as a recurring bully in the films and how she could have played a similar role in the book series.
When I read it I also got "Hello fellow kids" vibes because it seems like the newer books seem to have more newer electronics and they're more bigger plot points. Like in this book Greg has a NINTENDO SWITCH and Rodrick has a phone, but in the first few books Greg was interested in just generic video game systems and they didn't come up all that often. Also i don't really understand why this book specifically is so oddly- Christian? There's a lot of random Bible stories like Noah's ark and Adam and Eve that are weirdly placed
I will say that the first 4 are masterpieces 5-9 are alright but u can tell a drop in quality 10-now are low bar and all has the same structure 2/3 of filler and building up to the 1/3 we're it actually has something to do with the title and plot
I’d like to do a little trivia game on this book too. (and it’s about a plotline that REALLY bugged me) Okay, so at one point the Heffleys had to get inside their campervan because they were warned about a skunk on the property. After it was gone, Frank (the dad) explained to Greg all those things that you should do to prevent a skunk spraying on you and what a skunk does if it’s about to spray. Greg then talks about how animals have cool skills to protect themselves with and wishes how HE could smell bad like a skunk to scare bullies off. So, let me ask you, whats gonna happen to the Heffleys a while later? A: They get sprayed by a skunk. B : WHO CARES WHAT THE OTHER OPTIONS ARE, BECAUSE IT’S SO PAINFULLY OBVIOUS THAT THE HEFFLEYS ARE GONNA GET SPRAYED BY A SKUNK IN THE END!! (Spoiler alert, A was indeed the correct awnser, what a shock.)
There needs to be crossover books, between tom gates, big Nate and dork diaries. Then all four fandoms will come together and the it will cause the books to be less boring!
I left diary of a wimpy kid after the getaway. The other ones were too boring and overdone. My top 5 are 1. Dog Days 2. Rodrick Rules 3. Old School 4. Diary of a wimpy kid 5. The Long Haul
4 diary of a wimpy kid books… about traveling and vacation. Can’t we get something original? Yes, the books after like Diper Overlode are good, but the previous books are kind of meh.
Soy inglés, pero estoy usando un traductor de español para hablar, así que si hay algún español allí, sabrán lo que estoy diciendo. (Por cierto, solo hago esto por diversión).
I think that manny is not what he seems. On page 27 of the deep end, he has a sword. And not to mention, on page 211 he straight up pulls a big brain moment and fixes the bridge. I think manny is a demigod or something. In the wrecking ball, he even builds a house!
My feeling are mixed with this book the beginning is amazing but the end is a bit slow and overused plot and same with the jokes but either then that I really liked this book
First of all, i finished the book, And IT WAS AMAZING, First, The Ending is AMAZING. The drove a camper van into the water then a lightning strike hit the bridge, and they put the camper van underneath the bridge to save the ppl

Who else loves the getaway
me?
@@CrowRanaBurger I swear you hate it lmao
@@gravedigga2827 Just trying to fit in 😂
Getaway was actually pretty good, and I might only be saying this because it came out when my interest in the book series peaked
I actually really liked The Getaway
Jeff Kinney : Gives Crow a free copy and signs it
Crow : book jeff write trash
Jeff : *instant regret*
this copy was not free. He had to give him a copy of the manny drawing which is worth way more.
Crow, did rowley appear in this book? Its like Luigi; forgettable
I wish he brought back the og characters more
rowley was mentioned by greg that he went to a musuem
Luigi isn't forgettable he's more remembered than most other video game characters
Jeff is trying to create ADVENTURE in every book but ITS JUST A TRASH
*The anti technology box Is something I would buy*
Put Long Haul movie in there for us
CrowRanaBurger: Finally gets a valuable book
Him: Lets burn it
When I read it I also got "Hello fellow kids" vibes because it seems like the newer books seem to have more newer electronics and they're more bigger plot points.
@@JETS5 I know but it's never like a super big thing usually, and it's especially not extremely focused on the actual religious part of it either
I HAVE BEEN SHOT BY TEENAGERS ON A HILL WITH EGGS
I will say that the first 4 are masterpieces
5-9 are alright but u can tell a drop in quality
10-now are low bar and all has the same structure
2/3 of filler and building up to the 1/3 we're it actually has something to do with the title and plot
I’d like to do a little trivia game on this book too. (and it’s about a plotline that REALLY bugged me)
Okay, so at one point the Heffleys had to get inside their campervan because they were warned about a skunk on the property.
They could've made it something about dealing with quarantine and covid instead on going camping
Maybe greg has distorted memories of one vacation
Damn, hopefully his book will be better next year.
"Its that time of the month again"
Wait you're on your periods?!
"No im not a girl"
The deep end is now my profile picture
lol
Hold my beer im gonna make WW2 look like a tea party
I think Jeff needs to make more characters. Not just mom, dad, manny, rodrick, Greg, and rowley
There needs to be crossover books, between tom gates, big Nate and dork diaries. Then all four fandoms will come together and the it will cause the books to be less boring!
I left diary of a wimpy kid after the getaway. The other ones were too boring and overdone. My top 5 are
1. Dog Days
2. Rodrick Rules
3. Old School
4. Diary of a wimpy kid
5. The Long Haul
It’s another vacation book, and I do prefer the ones where Greg is at home/in school, but I still enjoyed the book.
I’m noticing a pattern. Every 3/2 books there is a road trip book, since long haul, like 2 booms later boom, getaway 3 books later, boom deep end
I’ve seen to notice a pattern. The first few books are good, great, maybe even amazing. But latter on the books get thrash and trashier
4 diary of a wimpy kid books… about traveling and vacation. Can’t we get something original?
Yes, the books after like Diper Overlode are good, but the previous books are kind of meh.
Bruh every time there’s a new diary of a wimpy kid book I just go buy it
"Wow I got a copy of his new book: The Deep End! From Jeff Kinny!"
"I hate it! :D"
If im being honest , including this and the last book , I haven't mange to get those other ones (which i intended you)
Is it me or the earliest books 1-3 look more a like middle schoolers drawings then the modern ones...
"Well it's that time of the month no I'm not a girl"
CrowRanaBurger- Best quote.
2020
No I'm posting this in 2021 so ye.
Crowranaburger the diary of a wimpy kid book series is actually Jeff kinneys life he put the funniest moments of his life in the books
Ah yes he had a switch when he was a kid
It's true in the first books I felt myself as Greg but now the books had really changed
7:12 Holly hasn’t been in a book since the third book double down. Where she called Greg fregly and then they never talked again.
It’s sad to see this book series having gone downhill. I feel like Jeff Kinney is only doing it for the money at this point.
You forgot to throw in the film "The Long Haul" with the Deep End in the pit!
We went from one of my favorite books to one of the worst
We did see Fregley in every book, and a cameo in The First Book
Soy inglés, pero estoy usando un traductor de español para hablar, así que si hay algún español allí, sabrán lo que estoy diciendo. (Por cierto, solo hago esto por diversión).
Damn all those years of Spanish class in school rlly payed off lol
Have you notice that Rowley Jefferson's books are coming out faster then the Diary of the wimpy kid books
My favorite books are rodrick rules and cabin fever.
Mine r all of them definitely the og books
Mines cabin fever
Mine is everything before the getaway
@@Erik-ik5kt that's fair
@@Erik-ik5kt Mine is everything
I think that manny is not what he seems. On page 27 of the deep end, he has a sword. And not to mention, on page 211 he straight up pulls a big brain moment and fixes the bridge. I think manny is a demigod or something. In the wrecking ball, he even builds a house!

This book is all right I just really want to see where the story will continue because this takes place shortly after book 14
My feeling are mixed with this book the beginning is amazing but the end is a bit slow and overused plot and same with the jokes but either then that I really liked this book
Me when I read the title: “Say you’re kidding or say goodbye to your family”
I really liked the book. It was entertaining and funny, but an overused plot. Though your opinion is respected by me!
At the end he’s stuck at campers eden without a way back, so how would he be back at the beginning of book 16
They never actually had Angie in the books but in the movie it’s weird
I like how when the story got interesting, it just ended out of nowhere.
I don’t know why everyone is hating on the book, I thought it was really good.
the long haul movie and the deep end book are officially married
The deep end is deep in the trash... I am so sorry you had to read this comment
First of all, i finished the book, And IT WAS AMAZING, First, The Ending is AMAZING. The drove a camper van into the water then a lightning strike hit the bridge, and they put the camper van underneath the bridge to save the ppl
This is literally the getaway. Jeff Kinney is running out of ideas
The Deep End was pretty good because Greg said his name was Jimmy Dogfish so he could join Juicebox’s gang.
