The gentleman who put the hot sauce on the cou cou and flying fish had the right idea. It is wonderful to see this perspective on my country's cuisine. Cheers mate.
Yo Matt like many others I stumbled accross your vids but I'm so glad I did. I'm a born and bred Londoner but my parents were from Barbados and I lived out there from 16-21 yrs old and have visited the island countless times. I have not been recently due to covid but I have to say I really enjoy your vids. They bring back many, many sweet memories for me. I am very impressed with your knowledge of the island (you obviously do your homework) and your presentation style is 'spot on'. I love the fact that you and your lovely parents are exploring the non tourist spots and mingling with the locals and not just lazing on a beach. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that and Barbados has many, many unbelieveably gorgeous beaches but it also had a lot more to it as you guys are finding out. Keep up the good work. Btilliants vids.
Loving this one thanks for sharing very information blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
When I was went to Barbados I went to a bar in Baksters Road and they were twice the size of the one's you get from Chafet, I also got fish cakes from a lady that sold herbs in front off a Bakery they were yummo. Loved the food and the people in Barbados, love also swimming in the Caribbean Ocean🙂💖
Beautiful tour very educational, cultural, and great gastronomy. Total Foodies you and your lovely family became in downtown Barbados. Thanks for sharing.
This was refreshing to watch. You seem to have had a good time. It was a good representation of the island. I would let you try other fishcakes though… … other than that, this was marvellous to see Barbados through another pair of eyes.
I am still a Bajan, after many years of self-imposed exile. Matt's video on the sweet food, brings to mind good memories from the years ,when I was brought up under the repressive clouds of an up- tight, hierarchical colonial culture. I am glad that there is till so much that is now good and flourishing ,in my young Nation.
Hey Matt, awesome video! If you are in Barbados can you just do a walking tour of Bridgeport? I t definitelt DOES NOT have to be long but it would be greatly appreciated to see how it is! Thanks in advance for considering this.
I stayed at the Sandals resort in Barbados. The resort was a lot different than actually touring Barbados. It seemed like half their population worked at the resort and depended mainly on tourists to visit. We were told by workers in the resort that we were safer outside the resort more than the locals because they knew we were their source of $$. Which I found interesting. Hope you got to visit Rihanna's old house and new mansion.
@LA, that's like saying you're going to Aspen to ski even though they have no snow. Tourist season peaks and fall so they hire additional help, etc.. Where is the other half of the population???? At Sandy Lane and Hilton😂😂😡
What an ignorant statement about half the population work at the hotel. Before visiting a country do your research about the country. You sound like someone who visit countries and just criticize the place. 😮
Hot legendary fishcakes 🔥 bread and 2 with cheese is also the bomb i.e two fishcakes in a saltbread with a slice of cheese..that combination is indescribable
Just you saying that that the fishcake was 'doughy' tells me that it was NOT the best fishcakes. Should be light and fluffy. Unfortunately sometimes they give you anything and say ' authentic' when it's really just the the ppl they work with. From a Bajan in America.✨💯✨...🌹
Wanted to say that sorrow is a very good drink but it’s so much better when the bajans and put lots of sugar in it just makes so much more tasty but definitely less organic.
I’m going to put some of these spots on my list for my upcoming bim trip! Except chefette. Those rotis are terrible 😄. There are some spots in bdos to get authentic and delicious trini rotis. Love this bdos series! 👏🏾
I think the person that doing tours with food critics should no about the foods of the country rotis are from India Chefette chicken is or special Bararbdos chicken
They have been in Barbados for over 50+ years . When visiting Barbados I would have to be really hungry to visit Chefette. The food is nothing to write home about. So many other good, small vendors around the Island. Visit Cuz and there is another guy by Folkstown Park that sells really good food.
McDonald's opened 1989 closed 90 Could've pass on the roti Fish cakes were stale lol not supposed to be chewy. That cou cou wasn't mellow...it suppose to slip down your throat with hardly any chewing😐
Ain't nobody had any breadfruit fries when I was there last to see my family! So sad, they're delicious. Like yucca fries. It's also 8am here I dunno why I'm watching a food tour. We take frozen roti back all the time. Like half a suitcase full. That and jam puffs. I'm surprised you were able to find so much flying fish! Climate change and overfishing by not only the islands but Asia has made them move more north, so they're usually imported from Trinidad or other places. I had a flying fish cutter with my youngest cousin last I was there, the only time I put cheese with fish. It was very good. Came from a truck on a beach, the best place to get food.

I live in Barbados and I love to see you document our great island.
I love Barbados!!
me too
@LeeRae, What the hell are you talking about? It's a beautiful island, get out and travel instead of talking shit.😡

That's so kind, I'm glad I did it justice. Hopefully you can go back soon to visit! 😃
OMG looking at footage of the country that raised me I can smell and feel the heat of swan street. Missing it for real.
I miss it too!
Barbados is one of the best places to be. You can go and feel safe and have great food.
It really is!

As a local this is great to see. Having a local real experience!
Barbados fish cakes are delicious. I had them when I visited Barbados nine years ago.
They’re so yummy!
Time for another visit

Hey sorry I can’t now! But my other videos in the Barbados series show the Bridgeport :)
*Bridgetown

@@TheMattJames de tan is great!!!!!

The all-beef sir, next time, the all-beef roti from Chefette
You missed Pudding and Souse :D
So I'm watching this right before my lunch. How am I expected to eat this lunch here. Pure torture.

I think the person that doing tours with food critics should no about the foods of the country rotis are from India Chefette chicken is or special Bararbdos chicken
She didn't take him to the roti spot, he went himself.
She told him he was going to moms n pops shops .
Fun fact...Chefette is owed by a Trinidadian 🇹🇹
Interesting! Thanks

@@9uhxhghi800 no plz
@@9uhxhghi800 Chefette, Kentucky Fried, McDonalds, Wendy's. They're all fast foods Chefette to me is nicer than Kentucky, but it's a matter of taste.

Mauby
And I have to be honest; the fishcakes look terrible. Too large.get up to the restaurant at the animal flower cave for some really great ones
I did exactly that in my other video, check the playlist
@@TheMattJames will do.
No new videos mate..... have you done any research on Pfizer safety data released ?
9 pages of side effects
How your studies going on ?
He called Paulette a he 😂
yuh too lickrish
first of all. roti is the worst food on the menu. you should have got any of the chicken their. why would you get two rotis lol
I asked what they recommended and that’s what they suggested
@@TheMattJames what a shame. The broasted chicken sandwich or the snack box is what truely makes cheffette the best. Maybe next time!
Put on a shirt for god’s sake! Is that how your mother raised you? Most bajans are too polite to tell you that but they’d love to.
Take a day off, Gerry.

Hahah he pretends everything that he puts in his mouth its good 😅 I am sure the d.i.c.ks that he put he did the same 😂😂😂😂
He is cuts but such a turn off the way he overdid it with the hands movements and all that camp over the top way of explaining ts annoying
