I was getting so discouraged watching all the videos with van conversions where would have to build things because i have no place to build out something so elaborate but this gave me hope that i can have a cute easy set up! Thank u so much!!
You and I have the same thought but after watching this video im so happy and excited to do this to my van because we have the same van thank you for sharing your video
This is so helpful. As a single female I wanted to spend weekends traveling over the summer but I didn't want to invest $$$$$ on buying a conversion van. Thank you
I ttly agree. I'm not ready to give up my brick and mortar home so a huge monetary investment in a build is not on the books for me but I do want to have long weekends away so badly
Your biggest challenge will be weather. Most of the country is pretty toasty. Many states in drought conditions. Unless you have a Tesla with temp control, lol, it's pretty challenging. But look on the map to find cool temperatures, national parks (boondocking), cities(stealth camping). Get a nationwide gym membership so you can shower and workout too...sitting in a vehicle for long hours is never good. A gym gives you an option to get physical exercise when hiking, biking, swimming, tennis or whatever you love to do just didn't work into that days' schedule. Good luck and have a great time!!!
@@missmadasia1085 OH I'll never give up my home here in San Diego...I'm not crazy. But, I do love me a road trip to Canada, WA, OR, ID, NV, AZ, Baja Mexico...you won't regret it.
Yes, I have a Rave 4 and this is what I want to start out doing. I am on disability with MS and next year I am going on the road straight to the Florida Keys…. This is all I need.
For the last couple of years, I've been watching all kinds of heavy-duty videos about car camping for extended periods of time. Then this one comes along and it's all dainty and decorative! Totally visually pleasing for an overnight-er instead of hardcore functional for the month-long trips I take in my Outback. I love it! I can see comments from people who probably have my background in car camping, freaking out about the things sliding all over. I'm guessing the spices aren't left out while driving. lol Besides loving the storage boxes, my biggest take-away is the TV tray behind the passenger seat. I was like, WAH?? That fits back there? *As I look at my TV tray right now under my laptop. Cool! 🤩 Thank you for sharing!
I liked the TV tray idea, too. It's all real nice, but I don't need that much for my planned overnight camping. I'll bring along prepared food and a little stove to heat water for tea at night and coffee in the morning. No fancy stuff needed.
This what I've been waiting for. Finally a suv decorated elegantly and gas the amenities an everything in its pkace.I looks like home an I'm sure it will fill like home as well.I needed this step for my Toyota rav4.Thank you.
Finally a build I can actually do! I think this is so cool for ppl just starting van living to see how they will like it. I want a van and I want the most simple, minimal conversion.
Maybe “minimal” isn’t the best term for something that includes space-wasting *fake plants,* stuffed animals, the bulkiest string lights ever, and a large, but barely functional decorative lantern. 😏
I plan on moving into a van by time I'm 22 due to home life and just needing my own space and I felt so overwhelmed watching all these videos. With all the builds because I'm literally supporting myself plus tso. This is just a amazing idea for the time being thanks.
My husband and I did something like this many years ago with a station wagon. I wanted privacy curtains. I used suction cups, fabric and dowels to make them in advance of our trip. This video reminded me of a fun time that now, alone, I could go again. Thank you.
Not gonna lie- when I saw that tv try fit perfectly there between the front seat and the folded down back seat it literally blew my mind! That Fanny pack tho…
Remember when we packed it all up for a 3 day weekend, hit the road and set up tents? This setup reminds me of those adventures Best wishes for your adventures and really Well Done!
Finally, someone who did a video where I don't have to build anything to go camping in my car with! I never thought of removing the head boards on the seats. Thanks! I don't have the tools , equipment to make it fancy. But this showed me what I can do with what I have.
Nice! My wife and I just got a 2021 Sante Fe and are taking it across the country and back for a month and will be mainly living in it so this is inspiring!
You have inspired me to "convert" my Honda CR-V into a camper in lieu of buying a camper or a conversion van. You've sparked so many ideas and I'm very excited about this little project. Thank you SO much.
I'm currently living in the city out of my PT Cruiser for financial reasons. I have a beagle and a calico cat along for the ride. I'm trying to decide if I should remove my back seats and front passenger seat in order to lower my sleeping area so that I can actually sit up in bed. I am considering making the hatchback area into a tiny teardrop camper kitchen that can also be accessible from inside as my bed goes all the way to the dashboard wien the passenger seat is folded down.. I've seen this done in many videos. I've already downsized so much, but I still need room to store things. I love the simple beauty of this no build. It gives me many ideas as I do not know how to build. Thank you for your simplicity and decorating skills. P.S. When I watched you pull out your wire spice rack it made me smile. I have been hanging on to one of four that I had. I love these.
Amazon has those mosquito nets to wrap around the car windows. They are black out pretty well. A few of those plus a sun shade cover for the front would do the work.
I use a thin foam board from craft store may have to cut corners for some windows. Put reflective panels facing outside to keep heat out. Just remove the ones on passenger side when driving. They sell for $1.99 in craft store.
My Santa Fe has retractable shades. Which are see through. I added privacy magnetic covers from Amazon. At night I use 2 sun visors on the from and back
I'd like to do this with my husbands big car, but we'd need a double bed. So instead of a table along the side length we'd use the dashboard and frontseats of car for meals etc. and just sleep in the back. I'd have to remove alot of creepie crawlies and dirt first though, because he uses his car for all his gardening tools and grass bags.
Charming. You might consider getting a roll of that "sticky matting" to place under the items on your shelf/counter so they won't slide around when the van is in motion. 😉

You have a lot of good ideas. I have an SUV as well and because I am alone I took out all the seats except the front two. This gives you more headroom. The hardest part is sleeping with your food boxes in the back but that is necessary. In parks, you can't leave food out to attract bears. 🐻
I love this! You’ve made a very pretty, clean, and organized spot for yourself. Thank you for showing how it went together. Those mini paper lantern solar lights are brilliant. Great job. This inspires me 😊
I applaud and admire all those that can have all these "accoutrements" either fixed or temporary....it's just that having all that stuff, very often involves moving/shifting one thing or another to get the right set up, you need to get out of your vehicle, open doors, take out stuff, etc., etc, and if you're in a park or campsite setting, it makes a lot of sense to be seen doing all that, however, if you're doing "car life" in the City and you're trying to keep a low profile and not "advertise" you're living in your car, then I feel I need to stay contained (sort of speak) within the car and so a lot of this I don't really find "practical" for me...but again, I applaud those that do it and I can see that it makes your car feel more like a "home".
This set up is specifically for camping though. If she is at a campsite or beachside she is more than likely aware of her surroundings and is hopefully being wise. This also explains all of the small baskets of napkin, cutlery and the like. As for city car dwellers who have no choice I think this is a great guide for their set up. Eliminate the kitchenette next to the bed this set up is quite doable.
We just purchased a 22 Kia Sorento hybrid....we love to travel and usually sleep in the car for 1 day of travel. This is a great idea and we are so ready to get back on the road.
Excellent choices for your car camp. You picked functional, yet stylish, items for a modern and cozy feel. Not cluttered, love that, set up very much like you own Chevrolet Classic Conversion Van with the EXPLOYER Company package. That design is perfect for those of us who value minimalist yet comfy.

I can see more people getting out there for at least weekend getaways with this easy and attractive setup. I like that you can cook and sleep comfortably
We use our Disco for sleeping in when camping and just take the back seats out and put boards down and a blow up mattress. It's my husband's work vehicle so has to function as a car most of the time. Everything is removable, but it works well as a camper when needed. Love watching the videos too but agree, would like to see more like this.
I was so excited to watch this, but everything is filmed so close up that I couldn’t really get a feel for how things are laid out. I’d love to see another video from further back with wider views.
This past July my beloved dad gave me his sweet suv before he passed away. I'm watching this video to get ideas for car camping. Pretty cool ideas. @Trail Lady MTB I'm so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I wanted to ask if you've been traveling with your Dad's SUV since this post. And were you able to set it up similarly? I'd love to hear about your travels.
Of course, you can picnic in your drive but to go anywhere this all must be secured. Which...of course, there are many options to secure it all. It's cute and fun! Just make sure you've got better window coverings than the gauzy or lacy sheets and make sure you're safe. Brava!
Thank you so much, great video. This is perfect my kids are grown & husband passed away. It’s just the fog & I for a great adventure to visit places I always wanted to go !
I have the same vehicle, just 1 yr newer (21) :) Now Ive got some inspiration for my future road trips lol. Can you tell me about the table top you used on top of the boxes? Im trying to find something similar online. Is it a serving tray? or just an old table top you removed from a small table? Also the white blanket/rug you laid down across floor before putting in mattresses/boxes/etc.
I love the simplicity of ur video!!!!! U got straight to demo and im absolutely impressed!!! Gonna have to try this!!! Ty for sharing & Happy Fall 2022!!!🍁🍂🌻🍂🍁
Fake plant, stuffed animal, and bulky decorative lantern to hold a single small candle. Really? Better to focus less on ;decorating; and more on using the limited space for important things like: first aid kit, bear spray, larger cooler, extra blankets/warm clothing, tarp, rain gear, emergency tools, large jug of drinking water, and *window covers.* If space allows, a folding camp chair to enjoy sitting outdoors, and a collapsible camp toilet are nice to have.
It looks beautiful but is it practical? I would think she has to put most of that away when she's driving (everything that's not pinned down). I am looking for something similar, I've been living out of my kia soul for 4 months now.
Lovely simple and clear to follow video, Sarah. At some stage might you be able to give a fuller list of what you bring (even if it's not linked to a purchase site) to help the rest of us assemble a travel kit! 😃 Would be very helpful for packing nerds like me! Where is all the stuff kept when she’s traveling? It looks like she’s continually getting her gear from another place then assembling it.

Exactly. Some of the van life stuff is creating artificial needs. this is so practical instead.

Love what you did. It’s cozy and won’t break the bank. It’s a good way to see how you like trips or living on the road. Thank you.
One of the best SUV conversions ever!
I lived in a slightly bigger car than this when I had to.. nice music 🎶 Thank you for posting, with visuals only! Great ideas
I loved your design. Simple, airy, peaceful.
Thank you so much, great video. This is perfect my kids are grown & husband passed away. It’s just the fog & I for a great adventure to visit places I always wanted to go !
Super cute! So many good ideas here, and love the aesthetic!
Great ideas, I have a Honda CRV and love camping so this is perfect. Thank you for the inspiration. I am on it now!,
Great setup, great video! You somehow manage to make an SUV look even bigger and prettily decorated as well.
This is wonderful. It's also a great idea for setting up a shady spot to relax, have a snack and read a book when visiting the beach! Thank you!
I love the simplicity of ur video!!!!! U got straight to demo and im absolutely impressed!!! Gonna have to try this!!! Ty for sharing & Happy Fall 2022!!!🍁🍂🌻🍂🍁
Wow, not only efficient but you also decorate your tiny space. It is beautiful. 😊
❤️ The fanny pack is such a genius idea! ❤️
Awesome, simple yet nice and cozy, you gave me some great ideas for my TrailBlazer
I love, love, love your set up...unbelievable what you have done to the space.
I LOVE THE TAILPIPE ON THIS SANTA FE SO HUGE AND IT PRODUCES ALOT OF WARMTH TOO
Greatest video on van life I ever seen.... thanks a lot💕💕💕💕💕
I am going camping solo in 2 weeks and Love your ideas. yay definitely doing this in my hrv
Exactly what I was looking for!!!! I have the Hyundai Tucson and wanted to see if it would work...thanks!!
Loving this! I own a 2020 outlander sport and im thinking of doing something like this!!
Beautiful and functional and easy set up! Love it. Great job!
(Have just subscribed)
Very best regards, XG Ire
The wooden box idea is really good…I will either have to find one or make it…thank you for the video!!
Simple fix. I used Walmart footstools . Lightweight lid comes off for storage. Keep everything light or you will burn more gas.😊
Go have fun!
@@carolynlasher8896 thank you for the tip!
IDK why this is so obvious but still surprised me. Good camper idea.
I do this in my SUV too except no sheer curtains. I like your storage boxes. Imo that's a tiny cooler. I always thought my cooler was small but you topped me! You definitely made your SUV camper look cute. I need to work on the cute factors of mine 😃
