- The main suspect in the mosque shootings that killed 49 people in New Zealand on Friday has appeared in court on a single murder charge.
Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, appeared in the dock in a white prison shirt and handcuffs. Further charges are expected to be made against him.
PM Jacinda Ardern said Mr Tarrant had five guns and a firearms licence, adding: "Our gun laws will change."
Two others are in custody. None of those detained had a criminal record.
Mr Tarrant was remanded in custody without plea and is due appear in court again on 5 April.

New Zealanders are fortunate to have Jacinda Ardern as their PM because she displayed superb leadership in times of deep crisis. Its not easy to maintain rationality and level heads when crisis situations piled on the pressures on her and the government. There's a right balance of humanity and firmness or determination to address this national crisis and not many can do it well under immense stress.
One would hope that anyone in the position of 'running' a country, would handle themselves and the situation equally well - if not, then the voters share any blame

I'm a Muslim from the UK and I have to say I'm so overwhelmed by the response from NZ. The PM is the personification what a true leader is. She has empathy and I feel that the Muslims are safe there.
