Excellent footage! I'll never forget the day I experienced this in person when I was a deckhand for the Mayhem II. Our vessel was the only stern picker among all the the smaller, faster bow pickers, but Captain Ronda skillfully maneuvered around the smaller boats and we got our fair share! What a great memory!
This one reminds me of the Bristol Bay brawl during row season I don't know how the hell y'all do it but I'm sure I'm glad you got jet powered boats and not prop it'd be a whole bunch of nuts nets filed all up in the props
Great video... it's ashame the federal PUKE and eco-terrorists has confined the SPACE, rather than JUST THE QUANTITY (of catch & boats). The actions of those that caused this cluster should be ashamed!
Its a hatchery. ADFG has openers like that to clean up the spawned out fish that didn't make it upriver or back into the hatchery to spawn. They're a terminal species and will die anyways once spawned out.
@@Yourfriendinendtimes - it's ON THE MAIN RIVER... the 'hatchery' is off to the side, and hasn't anything (really) to do with where those boats are, or the 'confines' they are limited to. The entire 'setup' of HOW the federal government deals with the Alaska commercial fisherman is ridiculous... and wrong on so many levels.
No waste! Main Bay is the first sockeye smolt-producing hatchery in the world. Up to six different sockeye salmon stocks have been incubated and reared in the same hatchery building. PWSAC has concentrated solely on rearing Coghill Lake stock since 1998. This decreases the risk of disease, improves fish culture, and helps increase marine survival by a percentage or two. MBH is currently permitted for 12.4 million sockeye salmon eggs annually.
Well they sure as hell aren't harming any mining operations. Can you mine efficiently in a delicate ecosystem without causing any harm or damage? Not a chance man. Save your comments for destroyers like yourself. Why would you even be watching this if you are pro pebble mine?
And these fisherman aren't responsible for this kind of fishing. No one does this because they like this kind of fishing. Who would? It's ADF&G that organizes this kind of shit. These fellas are just trying to make a living in a mismanaged fishery. There is only one other option. Don't participate and and risk losing you fishing operation and livelihood or go to the rodeo and ride it out. What are ya gonna do?
Lol you don't know anything about fishing. First of all this opener is just hatchery fish, probably very little to no wild fish. I don't remember any rodeo openers happening where ADF&G didn't want the fishermen to clean up the area of old fish. I don't think there's much more to explain other than that haha.
Alls I see Is caos, and greed , for fish that if this keeps going boom there goes all that, really stupid, I know it's a bit of living, for families but, still , this will wipe out any population, this needs to be some how , thought of as a way to better survive any species of fish
I still show this video off to give people an idea of a shotgun opener. You did great on this.

Stern pickers are superior for high speed setting.
I watched this madness from the buoys on a tender that day. Was something else!!
If anyone who sees this video is in the area ask Jay for a tour. He's the manager of the hatchery. Tell him Henry sent ya :)

This was a huge clean up, some boats had 15k lbs of reds
With all the Nets out it looks like a contour map

Maddness man...corked fear... I'll be in Bristol Bay the 10th best of luck
What’s the quota usually for this fishery…. Did naknek as a teen
This looks like a rodeo …
How many nets get caught in the props?
Jet boats
Christ this makes Sitka sac roe look like a walk in the park
Who are the soundtrack artists?
The State should sell lottery tickets to set in there to pay for the hatchery. Limit of 10 winners a day.
Hatchery's paid for.
It looks like someone behind a desk made up the rules
Without a doubt
Just stupid amount of boats in one area it’s just one big cluster F
Dang music...always turn it down when i watch these
Waoooo. I want to know more about fishing
Great video... it's ashame the federal PUKE and eco-terrorists has confined the SPACE, rather than JUST THE QUANTITY (of catch & boats). The actions of those that caused this cluster should be ashamed!
Je suis tout fait d'accord avec vous.... c'est une honte

WOW can we get one more boat in there... Too much
Every fishing spot in the US these days
Huh? You win the dumbest comment on RUclips
Don't see a lot of catching going on.
It’s a Gill net so the fish will be stuck and then they pull in the net in and take of the fish out and sell them
They probably caught the whole run if not they should have
@@alaskababy6678 I fished Bristol Bay for 37 years so I kinda know what's going on here.
Will they even shoot each other🤔🙈
People are something else. They can ruin a wet dream. They wont quit till everything is destroyed
Relax, these are hatchery fish so they have nowhere to go but to market.
@@jamesnaylor3277 Thx being a commercial fisherman myself.Now I can relax.LOL
What a goat rope. I don't believe I could be a part of this gaggle!
What a beautiful shit show
That has to be one of the stupidest fishery's I've ever seen. AND THIS COMES FROME A BRISTOL BAY CAPTAIN
I know! And this comes from a 3rd year Cook Inlet deck hand!
Sounds like you better stay in the bay then 😂
I have not ever seen such a ridiculous type of fishing . caution , fishing boats are near .
yeah, americans...
we do it best
Why not round haul with a seiner and divide revenue to permit holders. This is an embarrassment to fishing.
No wonder there's not many fish left great sustainably fish
This is a hatchery
Don't comment about something you have no clue about what is happening
DERP just another ignorant comment.
stupidity have no limits
Salmons should get a minimal chance……
They already have enough in the river...note the barrier net stretched across and up on the beach.
what a waste

@@happyvalleymama And that's why the Main Bay firsh have been 3 lb midgets for the last how many years?
Rick Bray actually depends on the year. This year they averaged at 4.5lbs and getting bigger lately!
Idiots
You don’t eat?
These are the same people trying to kill the mine. They can’t even efficiently catch fish with nets.
Puck Febble

Hatchery fish here buddy
LMAO…hard to see any fish hitting
And I blame the ADF&G for this BS type of fishing…They sit back and laugh at all this fiasco
