I live in Australia now but am from Bristol. Your food is absolutely the local chip shop Friday night comfort food from the first two decades of my life. Having tried your recipes, it's perfect. Do my Aussie friends get it, no. Do my Malaysian or Chinese friends get it, no. It's so specific to that time and place. Complete legends!!!!!
Hi I’ve just cooked this for my Dinner. I made the sweet and sour sauce then added it to a crunchy vegetable stir fry, then tossed in the chicken balls with some extra crunchy chips (French fries) and served it up with a extra drizzle of the sauce over the top. I had also pimped the sauce a bit by adding some fresh chillies to it. Absolutely yummy. I have some half cooked balls and sauce left over, which I will store in the freezer for another day. Thank you both for sharing your knowledge and recipes
My family ran Chinese takeaways and the way you made, these chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce is the correct way of making them. I am glad you showed us all, because I haven't made these for a very long time and jogged my memory of how to make them. I remembered how I used to make this after I watched your video. Thank you.
As a 5th generation Chinese chef with a restaurant thank you for confirming and I mean this with nothing but pure respect, please look into MSG again, and release the myths were a racist attempt at marginalising the Chinese population, it worked so well, it even has the Chinese believing it
I made Chicken Balls tonight. I can confirm that the naming is correct for the UK. Mine was made with a hybrid version of the sweet and sour sauce recipe I normally use (from the Wok cookbook by J Kenji Lopez-Alt) along with your earlier sweet and sour video, which uses cloves, star anise and Oranges for more aromatics. This was served with a stir fried veg / chilli / garlic / ginger / soy / sesame oil side dish and obviously rice. The whole lot went down really well. The balls were nice and crunchy on the outside, the batter was light and the chicken was nice and moist. Thanks ! You can count me as +1 for adding MSG. One suggestion. Adding the full ingredients list and their measurements into the video description makes setting up a lot easier. Take a look at Souped up Recipe's channel for ideas.
I'm so hungry for SS Chicken balls right now. Thanks. I also appreciate that you explain the chicken balls can be slightly different in size, shape and texture with few changes to the recipe. Loved it and as always loved your Mum. What a little gem 🥰
I absolutely love watching you and your mums videos. Chinese food is amazing, but so varied and can be pricey from takeaways. You have equipped me to make a decent Chinese , thank you both!
Bro I was a Chinese chef for a good few years and as a English man that was strange to the other chefs and other restaurants I use to want to do a cook off against Chinese chefs and knife skills all that. But how you did your chicken balls was exactly right and how we did them. Legend bro
I have travelled extensively throughout Canada and America for many many years and love North American style Chinese food. Chicken fingers are the same as chicken tenders which are strips of chicken that are breaded and then fried. These offering are usually served in non Chinese restaurants. Depending on the establishment various sauces are offered from honey mustard to ranch to bbq. Chicken balls are cubes of chicken usually chicken breast which are battered and then fried. They are always served with sweet and sour sauce.
Thank you so much for this amazing recipe. I had this for me and my partner today. He was a chef for a Chinese restaurant and he said he enjoyed mine even moreso ❤

But want to add I’m was Military brat that’s lived all over Canada from west coast to middle of Canada and also a railroader that’s never in the same place twice, I’ve also been far north in the territories eating a lot of Asian cuisine, never heard the term chicken fingers for this, it’s always been SS chicken balls or Chen balls. Chicken fingers is the tender part of the chicken off the Breast and coated in bread crumbs then fried and dipped in ketchup.

I’ve had 1000s of comments from people in the US over the years telling they call them chicken fingers over there, remember the states are massive not everywhere will call them the same thing
@ZiangsFoodWorkshop as an American who has lived in several states as well as traveled to most of them...I'm 100% aware of how big my country is. I'm also aware of regional differences being that i actually live here and have actually visited these different regions and lived in south dakota, texas, Alabama, south and north carolina, florida, oregon, wyoming, and Rhode Island...however, in the vast majority of states this dish is "sweet and sour chicken". Even at Asian chain restaurants in the US, it's just called "sweet and sour chicken"...no matter what state the chain is in. There has not been one single Asian restaurant in any state I've ever been to that calls this dish with the sauce "fingers". Even my husband, who is a chef is certain that this is just simply "sweet and sour chicken"....it's only chicken fingers when it isnt in Asian cuisine alongside sweet and sour sauce. Chicken "fingers" are just chicken tenders...which have a very different breading than sweet and sour chicken.
Again perfect timing as this is exactly what i was off to make from the cook books i just recieved from yourselves the other day. Thanks for the fast delivery.
Definitely going to give these a go. My local takeaways are not the best. There was this one tho years ago and there were stunning, thick, thick batter cooked to perfection. At least now I can try and replicate them.

Thanks so much you both for your years of recipes and making us a little bit more knowledgeable about how to do things takeaway style. Book content is great & im going to get them for friends this Christmas. I haven’t got book 2 so look forward to that. Something I only discovered the other day on an Aussie channel (Andy cooks) was Chinese hot pot. Love the idea of lots of thin cuts of meat and noodles cooking quickly in a choice of broth. Is this something in your repertoire that you could show us? 🫶🏻

New to your channel! But already know I will learn so much from you! 🫶🏼 one dish I have always enjoyed, so much so I would say it’s a favourite! Is Beef in Fruity Sauce - but I have never been able to find a recipe for it? Perhaps it’s just what my local takeaway call it and it isn’t actually a real dish?! But I would love to know if you know what I am talking about or if you have a recipe for it! Many thanks! And I shall be ordering your books come pay day! 🙌🏼🤣
Loving your videos and have received both your books thank you looking to see if you have a video on Chinese dumplings in case I've missed as I'm working my way through all your videos and referencing your books to match them both together thank you

I'll be making these very soon. I usually order sweet and sour chicken from Chinese take-out but I'd rather make my own food. ❤❤ I will also be checking out more of your videos. Stay well !
When I tell my friends about fish balls or shrimp balls, they get weirded out! By the way, glad to see this channel is still around - for some reason, RUclips hasn't showed me any videos from you guys in probably over a year :( Lots to catch up on!
Thanks ☺️ and we hear that all the time, genuinely think RUclips is hiding our channel on purpose lol

Love you two so much. You have totally transformed my chinese cuisine. My family love my chinese food thanks to you both. I've just placed my order for my Green Dragon flour and MSG, I'm running low lol. Thank you so much for sharing xx

Loving your videos and have received both your books thank you looking to see if you have a video on Chinese dumplings in case I've missed as I'm working my way through all your videos and referencing your books to match them both together thank you
What kind of dumplings? There are hundreds 😊
Like to try beef or pork if its feasible please
Really glad I've found your channel. Excellent.
Thanks 😊
I like the production of your video. You and your mom do a really good job. Better than most videos I see out there.
You two are adorable and funny.
