I really loved how each of the coopers reacted to george's death and the funeral it really fits their characters. George jr. Doubles down and reassures his dad that he will keep them all together just like he did Missy being emotionally intelligent recollects memories of her and her father and thanks him for all he did for her Sheldon seems to be void of emotion but the truth of the matter is that he is refusing to accept reality up the bitter end. He closes his mouth and retrears into a shell (something rare for him) and doesnt even say goodbye to his father at the funeral because he doesnt want to accept that he is gone Mary is mad, heartbroken, and above all else utterly destroyed. She demeans god and her husband because of the situation she is in now. Her and george were finally patching things up and everything seemed to be going amazingly until it was ripped away from her without mercy. And meemaw being as strong as she is ends up being mary's emotional support and presumably george jr.'s and missy as well The saddest part about this for me is the fact that because big bang theory came out first this eventually means that sheldon in refusal to accept reality regresses back to how he mentally was as a younger kid and unapologetically demonizes his father by twisting his memories of him as a form of moving on(the sheldon before this episode was opening up to others more and was less possessive of things like a child). Even in big bang theory sheldon never really recovered from that even during the last few scenes of the season.
You've said it all. We agree with all you said except the last paragraph. Sheldon went through three phases as he grows, the first phase was the young Sheldon, the second one is the matured Sheldon that hasn't given birth and lacks life experiences, and the third Sheldon is the Matured Sheldon, who is now the narrator of "Young sheldon" (the voiceover). The big Bang theory is about the life of the adult Sheldon, who has no life experiences, and so it is reasonable to say he judged his father, which is why he didn't regard him that much in the Big Bang theory. But now the adult Sheldon has matured, he has his own children, and life has placed him in different circumstances, which is why he now understood what his father went through and all the sacrifices he did for them. You can say that Sheldon has changed his perspective about his father as he goes through different phases of development.
I loved the character of George Cooper Sr. Army Veteran, Protector of his family, teacher, football coach. Total package. Timing was good and caught me completely flatfooted.

Dealing with death, especially in the immediate family is never ever an easy thing to deal with. As far as the Coopers acting normal, I usually like to believe that after the funeral itself is over, the healing process can officially begin as you slowly return to normalcy. At least, that's how I've often seen it. #1: Hearing that the person passed away & being sad and/or angry. #2: Adjusting & processing the person's death. #3: The wake, where you can share stories (usually happy ones) about the deceased person with others. #4: The funeral itself, expressing & dealing with emotions. #5: The healing process & slow return to normalcy (for lack of a better term) after the funeral is over. To me, #5 usually happens either way, regardless of whether or not there's an after party. Based on what I've seen, people are very sad during funerals (which is perfectly normal) & at the after party (if there is 1), there's usually more laughter or just regular socializing or whatnot.
The writing was excellent. I think the timing was great. It gave George Sr part focused on his roll and a great actor. How it ended made all the characters show there love for each other and how they moved on.
In the whole Cooper family, George came through as a hail-fellow-well-met chap whose world climaxed as coach ! So after he died the laptop brought out by Sheldon during a church service says a lot...

I really enjoyed the entire finale. However, it does show how fragile the psyche of a religious person can be. Also, Mary trying to manipulate the twins into getting baptized--I don't think even Mary would've done that. Sheldon, being a strong Atheist would've never gotten baptized just to please his mother.
I was really hoping Sheldon would show some emotion; his face looked so stone cold. I don't like how the directors told him to react that way; this was his father...and he showed absolutely NO emotion at all. Missy & Memaw showed the most emotion. Even Mary looked a little annoyed when they first told her he had a heart attack, maybe she thought not again. Then when the principal said he was gone she broke down. Maybe it was the shock of it all?
George's death was well written and well acted and Lance Barber (George sr.) handled it very well because he has to die so he wasn't upset infact he was quite excited. So I feel like every took George sr's death very casually.
I didn’t like the way they did that. It was just a smack in the face. One minute he’s there and the next he’s not. There was no goodbye, he was just gone.

Probably that Vasectomy that pushed him over the edge! Lesser men have gone down in flames after one...
Indeed.
Why do you eat to link both shows at all?? That is destroying both of them!!
Not sure why Jim Parsons is getting so much attention from the end of Young Sheldon. He's was an annoying kid & an adult.
0:33 me maw smiling ?
Why did they have to do this to George?
Because it's part of the story.
…
I didn’t like the way they did that. It was just a smack in the face. One minute he’s there and the next he’s not. There was no goodbye, he was just gone.
That's how death sometimes comes realistically, when you least expect it, and when everything seems to be going alright.
Not a fan of death nor funerals. As my favorite character is deceased, I'm going to pass on these two shows.
You should have seen what was coming
I felt like I was gut punched. It could have been done much easier on the fans.
