Thanks for posting so often recently. Watching your videos every day has given me something to do while stuck in quarantine. This game looks really unique once you understand the possibility space.
I bought this as a gift for my mom, because she was charmed by the box. At first I didn't get the hype, but mom insisted to play repeatedly - also correcting the rule we misunderstood helped - it grew on me. Really like this game
@@middaymeds my mom is 66 yo. Got hooked on the hobby last year hard. She loves abstracts and classics like Concordia or Castles of Burgundy, but never refused to play something objectively harder than normal like GWT. So proud ^^
@@Angeloisan92 My mom is 61, they sound pretty similar. She likes some heavier games as long as they don't have really tiny text lol. And I saw Steam Park on sale recently but I didn't know much about it, thanks for the rec!
@@Angeloisan92 wow that's impressive. My mom wont' play anything heavier than Jaipur/LLAMA/Azul...she's a beast at llama for whatever reason. Currently undefeated :)
Recently got this one in the mail. Fantastic runthrough Rahdo. I kept getting more excited as the video went on. Just the right kind of stuff going on in this game that I really love. I love the modern abstract game. Now I just have to get my wife or my 8 1/2 yr old daughter to play! I might try my hand at the solo variant as well
Thanks so much for doing such a great job on this game and the rules. I just got it in the mail and was excited to see you had a run through. No goofs either! Congratulations!! Keep up the great work! We love these videos.
Rahdo oh no you can’t do that. I need game run-throughs! Ok then quick question you said you can’t have just one card in your hand but I couldn’t find that in the book. Can I have one card then put it on the mountain and draw three? Thanks :)
@@shannonpepitone4920 no worries, i was just kidding. re: empty hand, pg4 of the rules says "you may not end your turn with no cards in hand" so that implies that it's okay to play your last card to the mountain get get 3 more :)
Ya we did it right! Good you better not quit lol . I’m watching your Hogwarts battle run through now! Thanks again for answering my question. Keep up the good work! Stay safe. :)
Playing lots of games these days. I'm loving how there's a trend towards aesthetically pleasing games like Sagrada, all the Azuls, Kanagawa, Mandala, Wingspan... Point Salad is particularly addictive. We're playing Jamaica a lot too, (so gorgeous!), and it works well with the third black ship. Alhambra with 2 is also fun with the "Dirk Henn" imaginary 3rd player. Game ON, everyone!...♥️
Ooooh. I was taught this game wrong when I played a few weeks back. We overlooked the rule that a color could only go in either one field or the mountain for each mandala. I enjoyed my play, but this will definitely make it more interesting.
21:19 She would not get the whole mandala. The player who has no cards in their field of a completed Mandala still gets to take turns taking cards from the mountain but instead of placing any of their picks into their river or cup, those chosen cards get discarded.
normally when i'm filming, as i'm speaking in a runthrough, i'm actually thinking about something i need to do 30 seconds from now, so stuff that happened 30 seconds in the past is already gone :)
Wow. I totally agree. This game is 9 out of 10! Really great stuff. And one really cool thing is: Lookout Spiele made a more than solid solo variant for Mandala. Thanks Rhado for the video and greetings from Cologne, Germany.
that is a very good question. i might like this more, but those camels are hard to beat. tbh it's been several years since i've played jaipur, so hard to compare...
Glad you love it as much as me! It was my #2 favorite game in 2019 and my #1 Two player game of the year!

my wife said: finally you found a game I really enjoy xD
Game on!! This is the best run through for Madala by far. Just nailed the strategy, the nuance. Well played sir, and thanks. keep posting please

I've been buying abstract games for my mom too! She's really hooked on Through The Desert at the moment.

Saw this briefly on Shut Up and Sit Down, and watching your runthrough has me convinced. I need to find this game somehow. Thank you
I got my copy from the online Asmodee store.

if there are no goofs in this video, that that means my work is done and i can retire from runthroughs! WOOHOO!! :)

Sharing the love with Quinns for this gorgeous game, love it too! Going up in my ranks of Look Out two-player games!
Looks really great, Rahdo, thanks for the coverage and sharing this game with us!

note added... thanks
14:21 So what happens if it is a tie (3 cards - 3 cards)?
the player who did not place the final color gets first dibs
Aaahhh!! Giant unexpected finger!!
Such a good game. I want this!
Beautiful game but have you tried it with Qwirkle tiles (ignoring the symbols) so you don’t have to shuffle!
interesting idea, though i have to admit i like shuffling :)
@@rahdo fair enough and the cards are lovely but this way I can play it in a pub garden when pubs reopen here in England next week :)
At 25:30, how could you already have forgotten that there is a black card in the other hand? You just talked about it a few seconds ago ^^

Yeah this is great I can see that, a bit like Go.
@Rahdo: I get kind of a Jaipur vibe from this game. Is that so? If yes, which one do u like more?
that is a very good question. i might like this more, but those camels are hard to beat. tbh it's been several years since i've played jaipur, so hard to compare...
2019 was a very fine year for 2-player games.
agreed!
Reading this comment in 2021 and it’s like 2019 game world knew more than we did.
But the river isn’t until the final card. You are missing the flop and the turn :-)
Great game
It feels like a miss to me that you don’t actually create something beautiful with your cards.
I watched Zee Garcia's review and he mentioned that he felt quilting would have been a better fit for a theme. But you don't rip apart a quilt...
Competitive, points-based, area control seems more than a little counter to the theme. It really feels like this should be co-op.
I have one more complain, that cloth, out of the box, IT STINKS🤣
