@@bevrosity i came back to the game after 20yrs (played when I was a kid in 94-96) at the Fate Reforged prerelease. First time ever playing limited (skimmed a "how to make a sealed deck" video right before I ran out the door) and had a blast. I almost made the finals in a fairly big room (50+), but didn't due to some asshat in round1 telling me I should take the draw with him because I'd never be able to kill him in time ( I didn't realize I would have had the 5 turns - he would have been dead 100%); I was juyst there to have fun so I was like, "ok, whatever". Kinda salty about it later on, though - dude dropped out after like 2-3 rounds).
Anyway, I was surprised how much I enjoyed limited. It was sealed in that case, and I still have the deck. I had a Dromoka (Eternal?), Worldscale Dragon, and a Crux of Fate (and an Archfiend of Depravity which I never got to play except that first round) , along with some decent stuff like an abzan charm and I believe valorous stance. Only game I really got dumped on in was that very first round, game2 the kid curved out right into a Whisperwood Elemental, lmao. But I think I haad a pretty solid deck! I went again for Dragons of Tarkir and I still have that deck, too. I honestly like it even better but I did not do as well in that one.

I did, it was pretty meh imo. If you can see the cards are very underpowered and outlast was a broken mechanic in a sea of mediocrity. The only mind games involved was double blocking because of morph and the abundance of combat tricks

It's my all time favorite. Doing Jeskai for my prerelease pack at a midnight prerelease is one of my favorite magic memories, and I drafted the hell out of the set on MTGO--definitely my most-played set and the one that I feel like I got the best at.
There's so many cool decks to be drafted--the clans, the black-white Warriors deck, the five-color deck that's just all the removal plus all the guys that effectively draw you a card so you grind out an advantage, the five-color all morphs deck with Secret Plans, plenty of two-color variants. The games tend to be slow, so you get these epic back-and-forth matches where the advantage goes back and forth several times and both players see most of their deck.
Sadly there's one thing about the set that doesn't come through on Arena--when you are playing a game in classic pod draft fashion (where you play against the same people you draft with), the 5-color deck worked better because 1-2 five color drafters vacuuming up all the fixing could make the other players have noticeably worse decks, and giving your slower 5-color deck time to do its thing because your opponents would be dealing with either clunky mana or not being able to play their powerful gold cards.

I remember there being a secret archetype in Khans of banners into hard cast morphs, and expensive rares. The bread-and-butter morphs of the formats are much more efficient when cast face-up, so you can quickly make up tempo by bannering them out. This has the upside of also fixing for lots of colors and letting you vacuum up any bombs that get opened by people playing the wrong colors.
The key cards were banners, 2-drops that block 2/2s, and all the good expensive spells.

      yes, 5c good stuff.

    • @nekrataali
      @nekrataali 10 месяцев назад

It's also a really easy archetype to draft because you prioritize lands. Having like 3 basics, 15 multicolor lands, and then just snatch up any banners and bombs you can find.
I remember winning a game in sealed during pre-release where I kept 6 tap lands that gained life and a Pearl Lake Ancient. The format was just that slow and durdly 🤣

khans being a tri color limited set with tri-lands AND morphs was an act of genius. 2 color, 3 color and 5 color were all archetypes with their own advantages and disadvantages. So great.
I think the only negative I can say is that black has pretty horrid creatures overall compared to the other colors making Sultai kinda meh as a result.

Pay close attention at the 37:30 mark....
It's almost as if he is signaling that he wants a red tap land when he could easily not draw any land or draw a regular Mountain.
If there truly is any behind closed doors Shenanigans this would be directly in line with how it would go. Giving him his much-needed third color source and having him give it a subtle suggestion that he wanted it to be a tapped red source.
Notice the way he says what he says, it's like he's 100% sure that he's going to be getting a red Mana source and he is hinting that he wants it to be his tapped land as an unexperienced employee might not recognize the importance of when land comes in Tapped

It is like calling soy milk, milk, or eating virtual food. MTG, the best card game in the history of card games, is now reduced to a kids' game with cute animated pets on the sidelines... No hate, LSV. You are my goto Vintange drafter, but Arena, yuck...

@jakeyFTW ? How does this even make sense ? Think less ? Hahahaahaa... No, no, my friend, it sounds like you should think more. Aerna, to me, is a cute little version of MTG with cards even made or nerfed just for Arena. Hasboro is destroying MTG, with playschool like games (Arena) and massive multi sets inside sets. There are more cards printed each year, no more block sets, and the reprints with 3 art styles is just overkill, or should I say profit generation. The 30th anniversary debacle and then the 1 of 1 ring just made me fully realize Wizards is gone, and Hasboro just wants to run the game into the ground after they drain every dollar out of our pockets... Yes, I am old school and loved the books you got with fat packs.
