Favorite episode ever, not a bad nether spawn. Well that escalated quickly
For your enchanting table, you're gonna need 15 bookshelves which is 45 books in total. they have to surround your enchanting table with a one block space in between them. there normally shouldn't be anything in that one block space cause it could disrupt you getting level 30 enchantments (the best enchantments you can get on an enchanting table. You need 30 experience levels to get them and they only take away 3 levels each time you enchant an item with it)

Bookshelves need to be 2 blocks from the table, 15 total. Pick up the books (bookshelves) from the other town. In the nether, you can build yourself a little fort to fight from. Build a little fort around your portal to protect from ghasts and other intruders. I put down half-block slabs to keep things from spawning inside the portal area, as well as building my nether roads out of slabs, to keep things from spawning on them. You can build completely safe roadways and railways in the nether to wherever you want to go. Use your deepslate bricks and slabs... they are easier to make and more numerous than nether bricks per block, and can withstand ghast blasts. Cobblestone works too, but looks pretty vanilla. Stone bricks can be made easily once you have silk touch. You want to build a nice base to work from. Especially with the bastion nearby. You can lure them out and take over the bastion easily from your fort. I usually excavate them from the top down and steal all of the bricks and everything else I come across. Good materials and usually a lot of gold, chains and lanterns.
I should add, there is room for 32 bookshelves in a correct placement, and you only need 15, so you can play around with the placement. You can also set it up with redstone pistons to get different levels/selections of enchantments, but max is usually preferable. You can always use a grindstone to remove the enchantment and try again.

a little advice it's always a good idea to go to the nether if you have some blocks with you then can you pack your portal in with something that can not burn like cobblestone
or other types of stone Blocks if you do that Ghast can't not smash your gate 🙂

I mean you could've spawned above lava in the nether😭 that'll be a really bad nether spawn. you just got really unlucky with that ghast and being next to the nether bastion with no gold armor was awful. Nether quartz can be used to make quartz blocks which are these really pretty white blocks like stone you can cut in a stone cutter.
