Playing the musical spoons involves using two regular kitchen spoons as instruments. Here's a summary of how it's typically done:
Hold the Spoons: Hold one spoon in each hand, with the bowl of the spoon facing outward and the handles pointing inward.
Strike the Spoons: With a flick of the wrist, strike one spoon against the other. The spoons should make a clacking sound.
Technique: Experiment with different techniques to produce various sounds. You can try hitting the spoons against each other in different ways, such as tapping the handles together or striking the bowls against your palm.
Rhythm: Practice keeping a steady rhythm by striking the spoons together in time with music or a beat.
Speed and Precision: As you become more proficient, you can increase the speed and precision of your spoon playing, creating more complex rhythms and patterns.
Incorporate into Music: Once you're comfortable with the basic technique, you can incorporate spoon playing into musical performances. It pairs well with folk, bluegrass, or other acoustic styles of music.
Have Fun: Above all, remember to have fun! Playing the spoons is a lighthearted and entertaining activity, so enjoy experimenting and making music with this simple but versatile instrument.

I used to play the spoons..Just two tips to newcomers..to get the feel of the spoons start small with teaspoons and progress on to soup or Dessert Spoons. The other tip is to place insulating electrical tape around each spoon to stop them slipping away from between your fingers. Then there are the rhythms..I play them to Irish Traditional Music which has many different rhythms but the most popular are the hornpipe, the jig and the reel..In Irish Music Sessions they are not welcomed mostly because people play them too loud..I have one video on my channel that I just play them with my fingers without ever banging them off my knees..Thanks for the lesson..
